Who is the most learned member of the ORG
This is not for "licking boots" (that's how english speakers say it right?), but just for curiosity. And notice that I'm saying learned and not intelligent, because I don't consider intelligence a measurable magnitude. I'll say that it's Aenlic or Tribesman, though i didn't have enough time to judge them. But let's see... ~

IMO only one fits the bill and he is both learned and intelligent. The one and only Master of the Horse. The honorable Pindar.
PS Ill give Saturnus honorable mention. He and tribesmans debates with Pindar are a wonder to behold. That is if you can follow them.
-
Re: Who is the most learned member of the ORG
Damn thats tough. My mind instantly goes to Gawain and Pindar, but thats just for ideological reasons.
Red Harvest, Lemurmania, and some others are also very smart.
Its hard to name just one, so ill go with a sure-bet.. Pindar.
-
Re: Who is the most learned member of the ORG
Puzz3D, EradoSan and a few others.
-
Re: Who is the most learned member of the ORG
Well Jag of course! Adrian and Kraxis are learned too.
If you go for the most intelligent - well that's Froggy, of course. Much too smart to post in the backroom ~

One of the perks of the legal profession is being called "my learned friend/colleague"
So your right on several levels ~D

Re: Who is the most learned member of the ORG
Most advanced discussion in this forum are English language masturbations. The constant linking to websters and other dictionaries lead the discussions in to linguistic definitions in the English language rather than the actual issue at hand.
I do believe that there are a large group of academics here and "learned" would be based on that rather than just the English language.
Do we have any "doctorandus" here ?

i like the fact that that there are dictionary links
it really helps me to understand how to say what i mean
too many people use words without fully understanding what they mean and corrupt their own message.

Re: Who is the most learned member of the ORG
Who's the most learned - hard to say. Several have great qualifications in what is their subject matter of expertise. When your in a discussion within thier area - you discover that they are indeed very knowledgeable on that area.
In general I say we have many "learned" individuals in the forum - covering a whole spectrum of topics. To point out only one would be very difficult for me to do.

Pindar!? lol. Agreeing with his political points doesn't make him learned
Do you think thats why I gave him my vote? Try debating him and then comeback and tell me that. I however certainly glad his positions usually agree with mine. ~;) Id hate to have to be on the otherside.
-
Re: Who is the most learned member of the ORG
Pindar, Hurin, Adrian, Aenlic, and others that I would not want to offend by trying to make an exhaustive list.

Challanges are excellent for the learning experience, and as such, I have learned much here that I could never learn in High School.

Re: Who is the most learned member of the ORG
Actually, if I am reading Soulforged correctly, he is drawing a distinction between education and intelligence. He is labeling intelligence as a native talent and therefor beyond the control of the individual. By contrast, "learned" would refer to those who have studied and acquired knowledge. Learning is aided by, but does not require, intelligence.
However, Soulforged, you failed to define "learned" accurately. When you use the term "learned" are you referring to formal education, to self-taught knowledge, or to direct personal experience. All of these are sources of learning and any of the well-written members above may have one or more quality in their favor.

Yup that has me confused. The only reason I appear learned is that Ive been around so damn long. Something has to stick. ~D But thanks for the plug Panzer.

Re: Who is the most learned member of the ORG
There are a number of members around who have impressed me with their knowledge, both in quantity and quality; no going to give names though, that just doesn't seem right. Suffice to say I've learned a lot from this board, something for which I'm grateful.

Damn right. While a badly written post can contain a good point it's rarely worth the effort to check.

It depends in what area. Concerning philosohy and theology, Pindar´s knowledge is overwhelming. It´s as if he had a library in his head. In some other fields, he´s not that strong. We have a number of experts for various fields in history here, so it´s hard to say who´s best. Hurin, Redleg, Kraxis etc.
I believe I can pride myself to be the Org´s local expert on psychology ~:)
-
Re: Who is the most learned member of the ORG
Psh, psychology is for fools... Pindar seems a likely choice. I would like to know what is meant by learned, however. Speaking and writing properly is most likely a major point of learnedness, I agree.
-
Re: Who is the most learned member of the ORG
I would probably say Urnamma or Ranika. Most of you probably don't know them, but it's amazing what I've learned from them, and others.
Though historical information may not be what you're asking about.

Give it time Soulforged and you will notice a major mistake in your assessment , ~D ~D ~D Damn I knew I should have gone to school :embarassed:
Oh , but thanks anyway ~

Re: Who is the most learned member of the ORG
Aenlic seems to be pretty well grounded to me.
But as others have said, everyone got his/hers field of speciality.
Some has extermination of gophers, others history and what not. The topics are endless, as is human wisdom ~;)

That's why none of the Organs whose native language isn't of Germanic root will ever get mentioned in a thread like this.
Half of our intellectual energy is wasted on just trying to make sense.
I really admire those posters whose native language is Persian, Arabic or Turkish and who still manage to hold their own in a debate conducted in English. ~

I have come to respect, silently, many of the members in this board, for their display of vast knowledge and debating skills. But I won't name them.
Indeed, I also respect many non-native English speaker patrons who manage to make sense and hold their own in a detailed, heated debate at the same time. I fail in the latter, though I succeed in the first... :dizzy2:

Thanks for pointing that out ~ . When I don't know something in english i usually take the dictionary. For this case I took the word "erudito", that is mostly "erudite", but I didn't wanted to use that word so i looked for a similar, thus posting "learned".

Not here. Psychology in my bit is done mostly by those who received mediocre results, and simply want something to do (since university in Scotland is free (so to speak) to all except Non-EU citizens and the English) Or those who are arrogant, pompous, and want a quick job (there are a great many posts for psychologists here, my school has at least two)

Hmm. Arrogant and pompous seem to be within my abilities. How much chink can I snag in one of these gigs? Enough take-home to make it worth the trouble of securing the appropriate union-card?
Seamus ~;)

Re: Who is the most learned member of the ORG
What? I'm sorry, I am not quite old enough to know what is meant by your post, and no doubt there are some Americanisms in there too... If by take-home you mean pay, I think it is just about average pay, £20,000 to £40,000 for a simple job, but I'm not sure.

Take home = pay after the deduction of taxes.
Thanks (But I really was only joking).

psychology is one of the toughest subjects to enter in danish universities - it requires a very high average. When you get in, though, there's a bonus, 85% of the students, are female ~;)

And female psychology students are hot!

yes, most are. in fact, every friday, each subject has its own 'bar'. And I happen to know a couple of girls studying psychology, which gives me a good excuse to show in their bar ~

Re : Re: Who is the most learned member of the ORG
Ain't that a coincidence - all that talk about psychology!
Just the other day, I was pondering about a cognitive-systemic reconstruction of Maslow's theory of self-actualization.
Shakihata, you wouldn't happen to have any link to your university so I can check about a following a course on it, do you? :sweatdrop:
