On the internet lousy writing seems to be endemic, often filling sites with the kind mistakes which should be inexcusable. This constantly annoys me. Which kind of mistakes do you hate the most? Not just on the net either, any bad spelling goes.
For me it has to be confusion between their, there and they're. Honestly, it's not that hard!
All of them. I hate it. I was recently reading some of the regiments' websites on www.army.mod.uk; the spelling was atrocious, and the grammar even worse. I go through things in my mind correcting bad grammar and spelling. I once went through a friend's English essay, marking in punctuation and spelling mistakes...
A language should be spoken and written the way it should be..
I just hate the chat stuff in general, however nothing annoys me more than that crappy invention : lol
You hit the bullseye with some sense of humor but the replier is as lazy as to spare you no more than these three letters: "L", "O", "L". Sounds annoying, dull, insincere and stupid to me..

Hmmmm, the most annoying thing is generally posts where people cannot be bothered with capital letters. I'm pedantic enough as it is but posts like this annoy me (I have made it up, it's not a quote):

I suppose it's meant to be "I have"? It took a while before I understood what those people tried to say, until I read the sentences aloud. :wink:
I have said it before and I'll say it again, AOL was the death knell of the English language as we know it.

What do you expect? The internet is flooded with bad spelling because the idiots who mainly use it are kids who haven't paid attention in school, or are fat people too lazy to make a little effort to spell properly, and probably look like this:

the confusion about their and there. This is (most?) often seen at native english speakers - I wonder if it's because our (non native english speakers) grammar teachers pounded our heads with the difference?

Sometimes bad spelling does get on my nerve as well, but you have to consider a few things when ranting.

The letters AOI appear over a hundred times in the Song of Roland; nobody knows what they mean. What makes it even more frustrating is that they are randomly placed after scentences and paragraphs. That's how I feel when I look at some of this "l33t/pwn/iirc" crap.Quote:

Joking aside, incorrect spelling dosen't really bother me. what annoys me is when people speak leet or just don't even bother. Sentences like this should not be allowed IMO.

The problem seems to be writing the word as it sounds and not how it is spelled. Perhaps there is not enough reading and writing in today's school curriculums. I find that these mistakes can be remedied by reading anything properly written.
When i type fast. I make spelling errors all the time.I think it´s mostly because in my native language the words are pronounced the same way they are written.~:)
Bad spelling can be annoying, especially for us who are not native English speakers.
If someone is writing a difficult word and spells it horribly,the meaning is lost to us who doesn’t know all the English words.
We try to find it in a dictionary but to no avail. We then have to decipher what it really should be spelled like to get the meaning.
If someone like Pindar should misspell words in some of his more tongue-twisting posts, the meaning would be totally lost.
I can`t stand posts without capitals. People know how to use capitals, yet they don`t use them.
The only place where I have seen such spelling is on the Org. Mostly by you and Mikeus, the ones annoying themselves over such.:inquisitive:Quote:

i think most people and i'm one of them dont want to mind their spelling. its not school and for alot of people english is not their first language. also many people type fast and are to lazy to edit later...i only edit out bad mistakes (all mistakes only when it was a story)
You know what strikes me as strange is that you are all complaining about bad spelling and grammar and then if Abokasee mutters some garbled and incomprehensible message and everyone starts laughing their heads off like some big private joke and then look down and shake their heads sadly at those who don't get it, as they would to the village idiot. Whereas I criticise the natives of UK for their bad spelling, I must admit if you could read French you'd be mortified by the slaughter whenever people are writing in French online... i don't capitalize primarily because i assume that capitalization originated in the first place because people had trouble determining where one sentence ended and another began; because of the variations in human writing style. that to my mind became moot with the advent of identical writing styles. i.e. typewriters and keyboards. no matter which one of us is writing, it all looks the same. and its quite legible. so i see capitalization especially in informal settings like this, as not necessary. as long as the spacing is kept between sentences, i see no problem with it, and in fact i see the demise of the period at the end of a sentence as well, in the not too distant future. again, this only pertains to informal online communication.
i don't capitalize secondarily because i'm lazy.

I always try to use correct spelling but I do use things like: m8, lol, rolf... etc
why are you disturbed by this in the first place? ~:confused: I understand it's annoying when you nearly can't read a post because of bad spelling, but that's mainly because the patron just never had the chance to learn proper english.
If you don't like some of the er... less conventional spelling methods, you might not want to know about this.

I fully support the individuals that speak against what we in Sweden call "apartwriting", which basically means that two words that are supposed to be compound or hyphenated are written as two words. E.g. "snow ball" instead of "snowball".
Other than that, I don't care about what's written as long as I comprehend what the author is trying to say.
