IN-GAME changing of settlement names!!!
Some dude at TWC found out you can actually edit the name of a settlement in the middle of the game... discovered by total accident apparently, did anyone already know about this?

(BI only, apparently.)

Too bad it doesn't work in RTW

Re: IN-GAME changing of settlement names!!!
Hehe... Goodbye to some old names... Perhaps I will even begin to rename some cities in the honour of my greatest leaders and generals.

Eburacum = Tesco
I've always wanted to sack and raid a supermarket. I shall take my hordes and pillage it forthwith. All the cornflakes and other goodies will be mine!

Re: IN-GAME changing of settlement names!!!
I wonder, if you rename an settlement and the AI takes it from you, will they rename it to its old name?
-
Re: IN-GAME changing of settlement names!!!
This is great, nice find by that guy. I've been renaming all my conquered cities to the names of fallen family members. My capitol is now Boz(Thessalonica).

I discovered this in my first campaign. I kept renaming my saxon settlements to later viking colonies. Ebarucum became Jorvik, for example.

What about re-naming unit names?
-
Re: IN-GAME changing of settlement names!!!
Renaming units and cities would be very cool. And generals etc.: )
Is the link only for BI and if so is there a topic for doing it on RTW 1.2/1.3?
Thanks :duel: ~

No, I named Athens after my first name in real life.
Don't know of you can use numbers.
Maybe I should try it, I just captured Constantinople so it would be a good chance to try it.

TB666? Makes me think of "We are Borg, resistance is futile."

Indeed! I just couldn't help but ask. The ball was positioned right for my left leg.

No, they won't. Neither rebels nor major factions.
I wonder if it can be scripted...

Re: IN-GAME changing of settlement names!!!
So no news on whether you are able to rename Legions or not? I'd personally love that more then cities as I'd be able to see the "Imperial Guard" route the rebel scum, the "Rough Riders" charge down the Huns, a unit on the field just seems so much better then an idle city.

Sorry.
Certainly no need to apologize! Half the fun of playing a game comes from finding neat little undocumented features, such as this or the famous battle sites, that don't actually affect gameplay but add a personalized feel to a game.

Good point. It would make it possible for a mod like EB to have accurate names for settlements if they're conquered by a different faction.

Hmm... Vahallan Ice Warriors (swordsmen) and Ogryns (Hounds of Culann) would be favorite names for me

Re: IN-GAME changing of settlement names!!!

I've noticed:
Code:
LABEL_CHARACTERS:FALSE
LABEL_SETTLEMENTS:TRUE
in the preferences file. Characters are seemingly kings/generals and agents.
Might be worth trying if adding those parametres into the vanilla (1.3) preferences works. Also, that LABEL attribute seems worth checking for scripting.

Re: IN-GAME changing of settlement names!!!

Here are my names for the Frank settlements. Corrections (Latin and Frankish if available) appreciated:
- Imperium Frankorum (used to be Vicus Franki)
- Burkhardsburg
- Merovaegsburg
- Campus Merovaeum (renamed Merovaea upon growth)
- Campus Tancredium
- Adgandestria
- Nova Adgandestria
~:)

I have myself enabled it, but never considered it to be some sort of 'name changer'. So have you tested it?

Re: IN-GAME changing of settlement names!!!

GAH! The lines are already there in the vanilla prefs but I think it doesn't work there. I may be wrong though. Will report the next time I play my Greek campaign. ~;)

Re: IN-GAME changing of settlement names!!!
Those lines in the preferences.txt file are (to my knowledge) for the little name label under characters (generals, assasins, spys, diplomats, ships) and settlements. When set to true, you always see the name under the object. When false, you only see it when it is clicked in.
