Just a question - I know some boards have the ablity to block IP addresses to prevent the type of activity that one particuler knucklehead has decided to do.
Can you block this individual from being able to register his attacks on Beriut with his flooding of new registered members?

They did that with Brutal_Dictatorship AKA Horsarcher ( he had various accounts )some time ago.

If he's using a static IP, sure. If he's on dynamic dialup, you'd have to ban the whole band (including anyone else with the same ISP), and if he's using anonymous proxies you'd have to block entire lists of unrelated addresses. So it's not always that easy.Quote:

I know staff wants us to give the 'stupid spammer' no attention. But I will, as he is my friend. If I go to frontroom, start a new thread saying certain person is an 'Asshole', I will receive 1 warning point, the thread will get closed and I will have to apologize. If he does the same to a moderator(after being insulted), he gets banned. Isn't that a bit... twisted?
Anways, this post is not insulting at all. I am only saying that I disagree with how staff acted. If I do receive a warning for this, I don't mind. I'll leave then anyway.

First off, I told Shambles he had to remove a joke about black people that I found, IMHO, to be racist. There were also posted complaints as well as PM complaints about the "black joke"
Shambles took it down.
I was then berated with PMs by Shambles saying there were blonde jokes and that they should have to be removed since he had to remove his. I disagreed, saying there is no connection between blonde jokes and racist black jokes. My opinion only, but it was my call to make. I received no other complaints at all about the blonde jokes.
Shambles disagreed and re-posted the racist "black joke".
I told Shambles he was fully entitled to take his case to BKS or Tosa if he disagreed with me but until one of the chief mods gave him the OK, the "black joke" would have to be remain edited out. I told him that ignoring a staff edit request was a warning point offence, even during an appeal of an edit to the senior staff.
He refused to edit because I refused to remove the blonde jokes. He said he would rather get the warning points then take orders from me. I'm not sure, but I think a mod gave him two warning points for this. The blonde jokes were removed as well by the senior staff after Shambles complained. The French army joke (which was mentioned only after several PMs about only the blonde jokes), was removed as well.
Then started a series of "you're a retard" PMs from Shambles to me. I wrote back that I appreciated his attentions, and that the spelling of his "retard" PMs was less than perfect. Was I snarky? Yes. But in the face of the ongoing "retard" PMs I remained polite. The politeness seems to have upset him and then I received a series of hacker threat PMs to myself and the Org. as a whole, PMs saying I was posted on the Org. map (posts which contained pornographic pictures), and that the Org. would be attacked by multiple false accounts and spam attacks.
These PMs, all copied and registered, were available to the senior staff for review.
The Org. is now being spammed with false accounts, pornographic pictures, and hate threads. I'm not accusing anyone and I haven't mentioned anyone's name nor will I. All I have asked is that the attacks be ignored.

No matter what happened posting stuff like that and attempting to hack is not the way to do things, it just shows your immaturity and inability to handle situations. Post a complaint in the watchtower if you fell strongly about an injustice, posting crap takes away any case you have. Although I must say Beruit is not a bad mod in any way.

I'm not only not perfect, I'm far from perfect. This means my Modding is less than perfect as well. Obviously I am going to make mistakes. That's what the senior staff is there for. I not only suggested Shambles take his case to BKS and Tosa, I encouraged him to.
I've been spanked by the senior staff before and I will be again. If I make a mistake I am bound to follow their rules just like everyone else.
But to threaten the entire Org. as Shambles did (I have the registered PMs to prove it) is not only out of line, but hurts everyone here, not just me.

It is indeed ridiculous, and another ridiulous poster as of late is the poster who has been wanting to post in other forums but has instead just built up into a rage and outbursted foul language into the Hail! New members thread. I tried calming down the individual by informing him/her to when you will become a member etc. but he/she seemed to just ignore me and try and insult me instead. I think you don't really understand. - Shambles received two warning points because he refused to edit out the 'joke', because others also made racist jokes and didn't have to edit. He got mad and sent several crap PM's to Beirut, which on his turn made an insult back to Shambles about his spelling and grammar. After all that, Shambles became so outraged. Of course to do such things is still wrong, but it explains (a bit) why he did it.Quote:

What you did to the Org. however is an entirely different matter. Though it is not up to me to accept your apology to the senior staff, if it was, my gut instinct would be to ban your ass from here permanently. You offended every single member here, from the guy with one post right up to the forum administrators. You made threats against people who did nothing to you and it is bloody inexcusable.
Honestly, I'm not sure how you can properly apologize for what you did. But if you admit to Tosa, by PM if you wish, every single thing you did, all of it, I will offer my opinion that we overlook the past few days.

There is an informal policy that if you ignore or threaten an Assistant Moderator the Moderators will slap you with a warning far higher then if you had directly attacked the Moderator.
For instance I would give a 2 point warning in the Entrance Hall to an attack on a Assisstant Moderator while the same action might get a series of village people smilies or suggestive ones to an attack directly at myself.

1) Telling us where any other pornographic pictures might be hiding on the Org.
2) Removing any text that is insultive.
3) Have your post count reset to zero. / New Account. As a symbol of a new start.

I am still of the opinion that Shambles can repair the situation, but only after a complete admission to Tosa of every single transgression that resulted from this incident. Nothing less will suffice. Any prevarication whatsoever and it's a no-go.
After that, Papewaio's suggestion of a new account would suffice.
What Shambles did, IMHO, was an insulting and serious breach of the rules that offended every member of the Org. However, redemption is always available to those who stand up and take responsibility for their actions.
The decision, of course, is up to Tosa.

It has been done in the past when patrons or staff have done something wrong they have reset their post count to zero. And normally changed the name or added something to it. It is an outwards sign of change, hopefully reflecting an inner one.

Glad to see things on the road to recovery. Afterall the STW community needs a bit of stability as Taishos slowly return.
Fact of the matter is.
I broke the rules, The offences were bannable. And I accept that,
Id love to have MY account back,
But im not gonna worry about it.
I had an argument with an asistant mod, I Stand by what the argument was origionaly about,
And I still say That he needs A lot of work on his social skills.
Being able to debate a point rationaly with out resorting to insulting grammer or attempting to patronize people would have been a start.
All i did was to show him if he can be an Ass then so can I.
But I can be A MUCH bigger ass if i chose to be.
Those who know me Know im not a bad guy,
I help people when i can, I do my bit for the community.
And although My actions afected the org. I think that it was worth the distruption to teach some lessons.
Ive tried to be civil with the AM in question after the matter,
I receve agressive PM's in responce. Although His public posts would lead people to beleve that he couldnt care less.
Weve come to an arange ment Where i stay out of his way, and we dont address eachother any more,
So life is quiet at the org for me 1ce more.

I don't see the problem here. Who is really at fault? The .ORG is based on a solid foundation of rules and regs that all members adhere to. Last time I was here there was no "points system" but I see that this is a very good system.
The person in question made rash mistakes, but then altered them to remove harm to the community. From what I see both parties are at fault here. The mods and admins are the regulators of the rules and regs and explain to the members how they work and what is acceptable. But this doesnt mean they can disregard the rules themselves. Both parties are at fault here. Why can we not move on from it. Apologies are all that is possible over the net unfortunately, so why is this not enough?
The person in question is a very active member of the STW community and is helping immensly with its revival. It would be a shame to see all that effort disappear. The .ORG is the hub of STW activity because it is so well known and respected but to lose this patron I think the community may fall apart.
In the past before the fakeserver, Tosa you yourself hosted a fakeserver which many people loved but we can all understand that you are a busy man and cannot do everything all the time. This patron is your release from pressure, I and I think many others agree he is a needed part of the community and the revival which we crave so much.
So why not let this "event" (as like many others in the past) become history and look to the future?
