Your favourite EB screenshots
Here's one of mine - in a bitterly contested Ptolemaioi vs Koinon Hellenon battle:
https://img281.imageshack.us/img281/...attle175zi.jpg
I especially like the taxeis hoplite in the centre of the picture, spear lost, sword drawn, who is wading across the bodies of the dead to grapple with the foe.

Re: Your favourite EB screenshots
I can't see your pic ER.
here's mine. The cursor shouldn't be there but I like the screen anyway. Cause it really illustrayes the madness a battle would be. just charging into an enemy army knowing you won't make it a live.

Re: Your favourite EB screenshots
This is my most satisfying screenshot beacuase I had just held off an army that outclassed me 4:1 after a spy had opened the gates.

Yeah, what the description says about his mobility and the actual effects don't seem to match, in my testing. Not sure what's going on there.

how do you guys take your pics - what program do you use... mine never turn out that good and i noticed some even dont have the flags
??

Re: Your favourite EB screenshots
you can make the flags go away in your preference.txt
One you can use to make screenshots is fraps. But you might also want to know how to use the moviecam.
-
Re: Your favourite EB screenshots
I use Howie's Quick Screen Capture program.. I don't have a link to his webiste though; but I'm pretty sure someone will. You can turn flags and those annoying green arrows off in the Preferences text document in your RTW folder. Just change the line SHOW_BANNERS:TRUE to SHOW_BANNERS:FALSE and for the arrows DISABLE_ARROW_MARKERS:FALSE to DISABLE_ARROW_MARKERS:TRUE. I just cut out the bottom of the screen in Paint; hence the poor quality of the picture.

That's a nice one, I've never seen the gate like that.
Here's one from my Yuezhi campaign, whilst not being particularly artistic it was from a particularly satisfying battle - one of my many with Baktria. It shows a Baktrian army under their heir trying to force a river crossing defended by greek mercenaries taking Yuezhi gold.

I'll spoil these so it won't take so long to load, or take so much space...
Here's a scenic one to start with, looking down at a Illyrian valley between mountains...
Here's a battle screen which nicely shows the chaos of battle in antiquity...
And here is my favorite screenshot, possibly of any game, all-time...
I don't know if my monitor was screwed up, it was time for me to get a new graphics card, or if it was an in game feature, but those lights from heaven (in the same battle as the previous screenshot) were just stunning...

Very simple one this, but I like it - something about those javelin cavalry on the hill-line looks very cinematic

I call this one "Wrong Place, Wrong Time":
https://img107.imageshack.us/img107/...rong7ur.th.jpg
He's part of a big army attacking my city, but he was a unit of one. He took a wrong turn somewhere though, unfortunately for him. Other captions may be submitted.
edit: from the other direction:
https://img107.imageshack.us/img107/...ong23lp.th.jpg
He charged in bravely right toward the strongest unit I had - even though he was "shaken". He hit the spears and it knocked him off his feet, but he courageously got back up,
https://img102.imageshack.us/img102/...ong33zm.th.jpg
and tried to draw his tiny spear back to strike, and at that moment about three spears jabbed him and he dropped to the ground.
https://img152.imageshack.us/img152/...ong45il.th.jpg
Poor guy. He wasn't a dying gaul (this is Pergamon), but close I guess. He was a dying Pontic Doryphoros. I'll call him Ted.

Re: Your favourite EB screenshots
Poor brave Pontus Ted. I think the patch needs to include a small bronze statue celebrating his selfless courage (or stupidity..either would be acceptable) somewhere in Pergamon. The team should be focussing all their energies on this, the CTD's and the 'Who is replacing the Yuezhi' question become insignificant when compared to this one lone warriors sacrifice

Ok, this is going to sound crazy, but I didn't actually realize that he wasn't one of your guys.
I have the flu, so that's my excuse for not noticing...
When I saw the pictures and read the sentences you wrote, I somehow got the idea that he was your guy and you decided to make him charge the enemy army for heroic and comic effect.
Sorry about that...

-
Re: Your favourite EB screenshots
Unfortunately, when it's by and far the best of the two or three units you can train in the nearest three provinces to the full stack of the Ptolemaioi's, that turns out to be the majority of your army, it was really mustered up in a hurry. My army from the north (Kart-Hadast and surrounding provinces) is much more balanced with adequate skirmishers, Elite African Infantry and Pikemen, and Sacred Band Cavalry.
-
Re: Your favourite EB screenshots
Too bad you can't save the battle in campaign like in Medieval. I'd love to watch the carnage. I haven't seen that many losses since defending Mino province back in Shogun: Total War.

There's an interesting story/AAR around the battle from which this screenshot was extracted, but I didn't know where to post it.

Re: Your favourite EB screenshots
Sometime ago I was gripped with a desire to replay the battle of Delphi. Naturally, I did not let my complete ignorance about the truth of this historical battle stand in the way of my desire, so I loaded an EB custom battle with Makedon as defender against an Aedui army.
http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/LudensEB1.jpg
http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/LudensEB2.jpg
The Makedonian army, commanded by general Tychikos, starts on a slope overlooking the valley of Delphi. Unfortunately, the Gauls led by Enestinos start higher on the same slope, so I put my army as much to the side as possible in order to minimize the Gauls' height advantage.
http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/LudensEB3.jpg
Initially this seemed to work as the Gauls run headlong at my repositioned army. Unfortunatly, I did not judge my position correctly, because my troops ending up standing right in front of a ridge. This ridge might have given me the edge I needed but when I discovered this it was already too late.
http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/LudensEB4.jpg
The Gaulish rush is in stark contrast with the disciplined orderliness of the Makedonian line.
http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/LudensEB8.jpg
My plan was to put my strongest cavalry and infantry at the right to smash the Gallic left and roll up their line. At the left I put my Hypaspistai to stabilize that part of the line and make it last long enough for my Hetairoi to do their work.
http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/LudensEB9.jpg
Despite the impetuousness of the main Gallic line, the first attack comes from a unit of Brihentin at the left flank. My Hypaspistai hurriedly turn towards this threat and charge. A unit of Thessalian horse reposition themselves and attack the Brihentin's flanks.
http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/LudensEB10.jpg
On the right flank things are not looking so rosy. The Gallic line is far longer than mine and my cavalry cannot hit Gaul infantry without exposing themselves to two units of Mala Gaeroas. Instead, I surrounded the MG's with a unit of Hetairoi and a unit of Thessalians. Much to my suprise they do not break, and are actually still fighting when General Enestinos and his unit of Brihentin come charging in.
http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/LudensEB11.jpg
However, this provides me with an opportunity to destroy Gallic leadership, and Tychikos and his companions charge Enestinos in the flank.
http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/LudensEB12.jpg
Meanwhile, the main battle lines have made contact, but the Gauls do not attack my center and instead focus on my vulnerable flanks.
http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/LudensEB13.jpg
On my left things are going wrong as well. Although most of their unit was wiped out, the Brihentin kept on fighting until reinforcements (a unit of Leuce Epos and one of Mala Gaeroas) arrived. Overwhelmed by Gaullic numbers first the Thessalians and then the Hypaspistai rout. A unit of Taxeis Phalangitai hurredly turns to face the Gallic horse.
http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/LudensEB14.jpg
On the right flank, things have gone from bad to worse. My cavalry was unable to either rout the intrepid Mala Gaeroas or kill Enestinos, and Aedui infantry flanked my phalanx line. Despite the efforts of my phalangilites and light forces my right flank has turned into a chaos.
http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/LudensEB15.jpg
Enestinos proving too slippery for Tychikos to catch, my general now turns his attention to the left flank to relieve the pressured Taxeis Phalangitai.
http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/LudensEB16.jpg
The Mori Gaesum break and Tychikos goes head-to-head with Enestinos once more. This time there is no escape.
http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/LudensEB17.jpg
On the far left my Akontistai have rallied and go hand-to-hand with the rampaging Gallic Leuce Epos in a desperate attempt to save their own skin.
http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/LudensEB18.jpg
My whole battleline is a mess: in a futile attempt to set off a chain rout I lose my cavalry units, almost causing a rout on my side. Tychikos lost his entire bodyguard and ran as well. I must say I am suprised that my infantry is still holding.
http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/LudensEB19.jpg
This doesn't last long however, one by one the remaining groups of Makedones rout until the last unit of Pezhetairoi drops their pikes and flee.
http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/LudensEB20.jpg
http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/story/LudensEB21.jpg
This is a black day for the Hellenes, as Macedonian arms have proved insufficient to protect the most sacred place in Greece, and Delphi lies open for the Barbarians to plunder.
