Hegemonia-City States (BI 1.6 mod focusing on classical Greece)
Hegemonia - City States focuses on Hellenic history before the hegemony of Thebes and Macedon.
We hope to create a realistic mod that will transfer you to the Golden Age of Hellenic Culture and Warfare.
The Hegemonia team welcomes the people who share the same enthusiasm to our
development forum where you can also add your help to our effort, given that you possess the skills and the time needed. You can also visit the new
Hegemonia site.
The team thanks all the people who have assisted so far in various ways and also TWC, SCC, RTR Forums for offering us sub-forums. (and hopefully the ORG, if we are granted a sub-forum here in the near future... )
The concept of the project we are developing is as thrilling and as simple it can get for fans of Hellenic warfare !
Hegemonia Cities States is a mod on BI 1.6. The start date is 514 BC just before the armies of the Persian Empire cross the Hellespont Straits to march against Europe and the Thracians. There will be a big invasion force gathered available for the Persian faction from the very beginning. If we use any scripts (which is under discussion) then there will be 2 more such armies generating at 490 BC and 480 BC to simulate both of the Persian attempts to conquer the Greeks.
However the Persians are not the only threat. The Greek cities and colonies which are spread all around the campaign map (and beyond that of course) are locked in a constant struggle against each other, against civilized and uncivilized barbarians (barbarians originally meant non Greeks), against native populations who are often hostile towards Greek colonists and of course against their main competitors in navy and trade: the Phoenicians and their own flourishing colonies, most notably, the Carthaginians !
The Phoenicians may have played a role in the decision for a Persian invasion against Hellas, while the Greeks were preparing to face the superior Persian naval forces (in which Phoenician ships were the most important) in Salamis, the Carthaginians launched a huge attack against Sicily to destroy Hellenism in all its strongholds !
In the game we will most likely include some units from the Peloponnesian wars as well (like Greek peltasts, special marines and more use of cavalry) but we will mostly focus in warfare between heavily armed hoplites fighting in shield wall (maybe combined with an animation we will develop and an altered formation if it can be done) supported by missile auxilia troops. That means you will see many new models, some models that few people have seen before and generally many accurate and fascinating looking hoplites. Of course there will also be eastern types of troops, mounted units where they existed, savage warriors in areas inhabited by wild and uncultured people as well as Carthaginian and Etruscan troops in the western Mediterranean.
For the units you can forget about using vanilla models! We are using our own models for most units we create and the result is realistic and impressive.The victory conditions will include for most Greek cities and Greek-related kingdoms of Hellenic origin to capture one or more special provinces like Olympia, Delphi and Dodona (amongst with other conditions too of course). Non-hellenic factions will have other objectives.
The Factions:
Certain factions may need some explanation so that is clear why they were preferred instead of others and also to specify their starting provinces, which will be showed with each factions preview anyway.....
We had to choose from several independent Hellenic and Non-Hellenic factions and we think we had made the best selection possible so that we can play with the most attractive factions, which are:

*Work on high res icons done by Lupus, Snevets also has done work on faction icons*
The Map
The brand new map is under development.
The plan is to have as much as about 190 provinces if everything proves to work fine.
This is the area which covers our map and the aimed province setup.
The initial intention was to expand the AoH map which Laridus developed to west, east and north towards Carthage, Phoenicia and more Illyrian/Thracian regions.
Due to game limitations Phoenicia cannot be included so in east it includes as far as Cyprus (we naturally preferred the Carthaginian regions of Africa instead of Phoenicia)
Uranos is in charge of the Hegemonia map and Laridus from the very start offered his previous work on the map.
There is not yet a complete playable version of the map just some WIP screenshots.
When we show screenshots do not rush to criticise possible little mistakes, because the map is in an early form...
The map will be very detailed and accurate in its final version - given that the suggested plan is accomplished.
If you want to use them, please download them and then upload them to your own image-hosting site...
Some new banners you can use freely as signatures, as a word of warning, some forums will not allow them due to their size, you may have to re-size them yourself.

About the shield-wall, at the start we were going for it, but our developers stumbled on something else more suitable for the more aggressive hoplite style of fighting that we were interested in, the mod is covering the classical era, before any vanilla-type phalanx was around, but it's stiill under development so I can't really say anything more... about a release date, no date set yet....

PS - About the Macedonian faction, please don't rush in to criticize the way the faction is presented here, the mod starts 2 centuries before Phillip II and Alexander the Great, so naturally the reformed Macedonian armies that everyone knows from the Hellenistic Ages didn't exist back then....

Wow nice work guys. Map is looking good but still you could work on it.
For example move Etna to the east coast of Sicily.
I like scale of your map. You can put lots of details on it.
I hope you are using some program like Googleearth to help you get all the details right. Good luck.

We dont have a released date planned yet as we think it is better to simply work as fast as we can rather than make a deadline and miss it which im sure would result in all hell breaking loose from the fans of our mod hehe.
If u mean persian Cavalry the units are planned but still in the very early stages of been made full answer in the other place u asked this *giggles*

These are certainly far from the first... but I suppose we haven't released any official previews yet for fully non Greeks. We'll fix that in the next few days: Etruscan then Thracian previews are upcoming.
As for whether or not we have done any cavalry, yes we have, a few have appeared in our previews so far.

The thing about sea-battles is that the makers of the game really, really, really, didn't want us to make them, because its their ace in the hole for a later expansion or sequel. If they announced sea-battles for their upcoming sanitation workers total war, everyone would buy it, despite the incredibly discouraging title just because sea battles are what everyone is waiting for. Point is, one day CA will make a game with sea-battles... until then we'll just be fighting on land.

New unit added to Macedonian preview, we decided to add them based on a lack of quality line infantry for the faction and recent archaeological findings which uncovered proto-hoplite equipment in Macedonia at this time period.

@Ozz, i've heard about it, you need a basic coder for implanting units, right?
Well, i'm no good at it (as i was lazy and used little programs like "Caligula").
But if i ever happened to find someone who is able to do anything for the mod, i'll inform you.

Hi Tiberius, you are correct, but we never said Thespians were Thebans, if you read the faction intro in the Boeotian League preview posted, the Thespians and Plataeans were allies of Sparta & Athens, and more than often enemies of Thebes.
We decided to include the Thespians in the Boeotian League because of the limited number of factions available and the dominant city in Boeotia was definitely Thebes...

the thespians indeed were enemies of the thebans from time to time, but they were not traditional allies of athens
...actually those became the poor neighbour boiotian city of Plataia which after the spartans denied to be their protectors and patrons from thebes, they asked the athenians who accepted the invitation
....however as we said, the factions name is "boiotian league" not "thebes"
...it consists of the cities of boiotia and of course naturally controlled by the strongest city,thebes!
thats why after the persians withdrew from hellas, the boiotian league was ressolved in order to punish thebes who had willingly allied with the persians...
anyway a common characteristic of both Thespians and Plataians is their reknown bravery!
