EB News - Tuesday, March 14

Greetings Europa Barbarorum fans!

The Europa Barbarorum team, through your assistance, has discovered issues which cause CTDs both introduced in 0.7.3 and, primarily, existing since 0.7.2. Thus we are now hard at work on 0.7.4, which promises to be very stable. We feel that as many have claimed 0.7.3 is an improvement in stability over 0.7.2, 0.7.4 will be even moreso over 0.7.3. Thank you for your assistance in helping us find the source of these errors!

As we expect 0.7.4 to be at least several days away, we have posted temporary fixes for the most glaring CTD errors in our public areas (you will find links at the end of this message). 0.7.4 will not have a lot of new content, but we feel that with the impact of our bug fixes being so great, it made sense for us to distance this version with the currently released one. Since we are making good progress on the conversion to 1.5, it is most likely that our next full version release (i.e. not a patch) will be on that platform.

With the release of the 0.7.3 patch we were not able to include any new units, due to how RTW handles packed items (we will not see the new units and unit texture/model fixes until our next full version release), so we have decided to showcase some of the creations of our wonderful modellers and skinners. It's a shame they've been toiling away deep in the catacombs of the EB headquarters, and all their hard work hasn't made it's way to you yet, but we are here to remedy that today! And we also plan on releasing more of these in the near future.

Today we will preview for you three units by three different EB members, whom we would like to thank here! Aymar de Bois Mauri, Shogo, and skeletor. So enough with the introductions, let's get to the preview!

Noricae Gaecorii - Regional Rebel Skin (Aymar de Bois Mauri)

Makedonian Pelekephoroi Agrianikoi - Agrianian Assault Infantry (skeletor)

Most of the Illyrikoi tribe known as the Agrianikoi by the men of Helles now live in northern Makedonia, where they are actively recruited by the Makedonian military. They are fanatic soldiers who often lose themselves into a battle frenzy and are able to tackle enemies with far more armor.

Historically, The Agrianikoi were an Illyrikoi tribe that was highly influenced by the Thrakioi. They've been recruited by the Makedonians in large numbers for many years, and are now indebted to the Makedonian king for protecting them against the huge invasion of the Galatai the Agrianikoi were used by Alexandros in almost every major battle of his conquest, often to great effect. They were fanatically loyal and were called upon as his best assault troops, able to throw their ropes and grappling hooks and use their spiked boots and specialized equipment to scale even sheer surfaces. They fought fanatically and continued this tradition under Makedonian leadership.

Assilim Meshurianim Southern Arabian Heavy Infantry - (Shogo)

Yes, the links would be great. I can understand it takes time to patch, but links to fixes in the interim would be great. I don't have time to read every thread in the technical support forum & only a few end up with clear fixes.

Traits and Ancillaries Fix Links

Olympics fix

Roman general doesn't gain "Imperator" title.

Also, rename Data\ui\ancillaries\callimachus_of cyrene.tga to Data\ui\ancillaries\callimachus_of_cyrene.tga (replace missing underscore)

Oh now that explains why I've been having a hard time getting my generals the triumphus. Thanks Malrubius, I'll make those changes tonight.

Great news on the new patch. 0.73 is fantastic and working very well for me. The only problem I'm currently having is the CTD when the enemy brings reinforcments to the battle. Was really annoying last night. Fought an epic battle against Carthage in Spain and it took about half an hour to fight. I won finally with an heroic victory, destroyed the garrison of Arse and therfore conquered the town with no need to beseige. Of course my happy moment was short-lived as I got the CTD as soon as the battle ended.

Has a solution to this problem been found?

Does the Iberians get any new units to recruit, or has its recruitment problems been fixed (if there is any to begin with)? My Iberian campaign is kind of stalled cos' I don't get to see much variety in the units I can recruit =\

But that's just for one of the many small bugfixes scattered about. I believe the want is for links to all those fixes in the initial post because it'd be easy to miss some here and there if you don't read every post in every thread in every board.

I've still got 120 turns before I get my Polybian Reform - just over half-way. I'll be waiting a long time for cohors evocata. ;)

Well, I don't currently have all the information you are looking for, as I'm too busy trying to get the things done which need to be done for this patch to exist. I'm not sure that all those things have been explained, some can't be done by the casual gamer, and some can only be done by a single individual or a few individuals on our team, much less explained. I know we have other people in EB working on other things, who perhaps can contribute to this.

Oh no, currently the Polybian units are very colorfull. I'm refering to the new historical skins which are yet to be implemented into the game that will have dullified shields. You know these historians, always nerfing Roman creativity, their guts are filled with guilt because it took them so long to stop over-hyping Rome, and now they're trying to compensate for the lost time.

Obviously, I'm just kidding. Between art and historical accuracy, I know the EB team will choose accuracy if the theory sounds solid enough. So the Romans are to blame for not developing a decent cheap mass-production painting system earlier.

But that's not the only fix, and new members (or even some old members, myself included) don't have time to scan all posts for fixes, so I'd really appreciate if there was one centralized download-and-fix thread. There is already a bewildering amount of pinned threads on this forum.

Edit: I just realized this may have sounded too demanding. I am off course very gratefull that you are putting so much time and effort in this mod; and I just wanted to point that it rather hard to keep or get up to date on EB due to the huge number of pinned or unpinned but important threads.

Here is the v.73 Olympics Bug Fix, courtesy of Malrubius

Even though no one has mentioned it, I'd like to point out the climbing rope on the Agrianikoi. It's not really pointed out much in the description we have there, but it's a wonderful touch skeletor worked into the model. :grin: Can't wait to play the build with those guys in it!

Two questions about the Assilim Meshurianim (who are very nice) :

Was this kind of long robe really worn to fight and weren't just a "parade" dress, it should be difficult to run wearing this...

The blue stripes on the white robe seem strange , it makes me feel more like a celtic pattern than an arabian one .

Can't wait to use these guys though ~;)

There was a different "Olympics Bug" in the v.72 build, so by using the word "new" in this post, I was trying to indicate that this link didn't take you to that older bug fix. I'll edit the words in the link to clarify that.

I appreciate the links to bug fixes here - I thought I was going mad, watching my disappearing Lugoae but now I understand and and am also quickly embarking for Cyprus to destroy its naval facilities! :2thumbsup:

If the EB team don't want to create a separate thread for all bug fixes, maybe this thread can serve as one? It seems to have squashed about five already.

Good idea. This would also make it easier for people who don't visit this forum frequently but do want to play EB.

We are a mere day away from the next download, as soon as the animation fix is ready. We thought we would have it yesterday, and then today...this is how such things go.

What's this? The animation bugs will be fixed in this next release? Hoozah!

I don't know about "bugs," but the one that causes a CTD when a unit with the swordsman/javelin combination switches from secondary to primary weapons, yes. We're reverting to an older animation to avoid the problem, until we move to 1.5.

Any chance the next patch will be compatible with old saves? I know you said in general, patches would not be but my campaign is just taking off. :balloon2:

It should function, but you will not get all of the benefits without moving to a new campaign.

Just an update - 0.7.4 is in final testing and the installer is being built. It is possible, but not very likely, that it might be up later tonight. Barring something unforseen going wrong it should be ready for tomorrow.

EB v0.7.4 (patch)

NSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

1) Patch: EB Version 0.74 is a patch (67MB), and should be installed on top of EB v0.72. Version 0.72, as you know, needs to be installed on a clean, working version of RTW with the 1.2 patch installed, and with no other mods installed.  We have no current information on how to help those who purchased the RTW Gold version.

Theoretically, v0.74 should be able to be installed over 0.72 + 0.73a, but occasionally users have reported problems with overwrites such as these.  So, if any problems are encountered at all, an uninstall and reinstall is recommended.

These changes should be savegame compatible, though certain fixes (the Kypros port CTD fix for sure) may not begin working until you start a new campaign.
