For me, its only M2:TW and Spore really, and maybe Stalker if it lives up to the hype. I'll also keep a passing interest in the Burning Crusade expansion for World of Warcraft and may take up my subscription again if I like what I see and hear about it. I had real trouble quitting WoW recently though and I feel like I've lost a huge part of my social life so I'm not sure I'd be willing to go through that again.
I was just thinking how many great PC games are coming out.
Here's my top 10, err 12.
(1) Bioshock - aka System Shock 3, nuff said)
(2) EB 1.0 - I can't play the beta anymore because it crashes so much. But I want it so much, it hurts. Did I just say that out loud?
(3) M2TW - goes without saying
(4) NWN2 -prays for a KOTOR2 quality official campaign
(5) Jade Empire for the PC -Bioware can do no wrong, fact
(6) RTW: Alexander - one blitzing concept that actually attracts me
(7) Mark of Chaos -probably rubbish, but I'm into Warhammer and I can hope
(8) Dragon Age - Bioware again; when's it due? surprisingly little chatter about this one
(9) Fallout 3 - too far away to be up the list; plus MW/Oblivion are just too far inferior to FO2 to be optimistic
(10) The next generation Total War game - way too far away to be up the list; but imagine if it was Napoleonic? swoon
(11) Jagged Alliance 3 - also too far away and also probably rubbish - Ja2 was sublime, though
(12) Mass Effect when it is eventually ported to the PC - why do you torment me so, Bioware? why? why?!
Wait, Fallout 3??? Jagged Alliance 3??? That is awesome news! About Jade Empire, oh yes Bioware can do wrong. It isn't horrible but I was extremily dissapointed.
I wish Bioware were devloping Fallout 3 instead of Bethesda. The Fallout games are probably my all-time favorites, and you can count on Bioware to do a good job.
Much as I like Oblivion, it's not in the same league.
Any info on Fallout3? Will it be isometric or first person a la Morrowind? Any screenshots? Anything?Quote:

Neverwinternights 2 is being made by Obsidian, the team that produced Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2. KOTOR2 arguably improved on KOTOR by having a much darker official campaign. I expect NWN2 to do the same, although that would not be hard given the insipid nature of most of the NWN OC (there were flashes of brilliance, though - Episode #1 finale and Charwood in particular). A lot of people slated KOTOR2 for being unfinished, but what there was, was good enough to outshine 95% of the other RPGs on the market. Indeed, of the post-BG2 RPGs, I think only Vampires: Bloodlines bettered it.Quote:

Grab a pen, and write down every cliche about the orient you can think of, chances are you will ecounter it. Maybe I would have liked it better if Kotor had never happened.Quote:

I remember them being quite upset with Fallout Tactics (which I actually really liked). They better make it isometric and turn based like it should be.
Don't get your hopes up, Frag.
Can we expect something similar to the work done on Morrowind, in terms of that style of game experience?
Pete Hines: Again, it's early to say, but it wouldn't be a leap of faith to say that we plan to use technologies in development otherwise. You could make some fairly safe leaps of faith that it would be similar in style. We're not going to go away from what it is that we do best. We're not going to suddenly do a top-down isometric Baldur's Gate-style game, because that's not what we do well.
If we keep talking Fallout 3, we're going to have to make a new thread. Or is that necessary? It's definitely a game we're anticipating ...
Forget about it:Quote:

It will be Oblivion with guns n mutants. But if they improve the voice-acting, characters and plot from Oblivion as much as they improved them from Morrowind to Obivion, it might just be a very good game.
I'll say one thing for Bethesda - they just don't do small. They should at least get the epic quality required for a Fallout. They are also capable of some of creating some of the dark, freaky qualities that Fallout requires (think of Morrowind's Daedric ruins in a sandstorm or indeed Oblivion itself).
EDIT: Lemur beat me to the punch!
No doubt they can make it a compelling game, and we will sure see some amazing enviroments, but this does suck a bit. I wonder how they are going to implement your companions, if they even intent to. Sounds like cashing in on a beloved franchise if you ask me, and it would indeed be better if bioware made it because of Kotor's great combat system, much more suited for Fallout imnsvho :shame:
I don't agree. The Fallout games have a huge reputation, but none of them made much money. Even Fallout 2, the biggest seller, didn't break into Civ or Sims territory, or even come close.Quote:

The team that made the first two games is long gone, scattered to the four corners of the earth.
Even a KOTOR-type Fallout wouldn't "really" be Fallout. The king is dead, long live the king!

Combat Mission Campaigns
MTW2
The game I'm really most looking forward to is Supreme Commander. It's the spiritual successor to the amazing Total Annihilation and the action just looks nothing short of stunning. Check out the trailers for it if you can, it's intense!
In no particular order:
- MTW:2
- Crysis
- Hitman: Blood Money
- and some others I can't remember :embarassed:
Spore=EA so . EA has some really money-sucking tactics which I don't like. Looks at the sims 2 and BF2. They made an awesome game, then made about 5 X-packs for it. And for BF2, you can't play the game if you don't download the costly mini-packs they produce every so often, despite how many shoes get thrown at the EA office. For these and many more dogy marketing tactics I dislike EA. I won't buy Spore, even though it looks like a decent game (though it does support evolution which is a lie).Quote:

Duke Nukem Forever :laugh4: (no, really, it's coming soon, :laugh4: )
I guess for me it's:
* MTW2
* Bioshock (hope it plays as good as it looks in preview and concept)
* Spore (ditto, but I'm worried it can't possibly live up to the hype)
* Neverwinter Nights 2
* Hellgate London
That's about all I can get really worked up over, at the moment. I'm also keeping an eye out for a MMORPG replacement for WoW. My S.O. and I are getting fed up with server instability, and the way we play that game we'll never be able to see most of the high-level raid content. I don't know what looks all that exciting on the MMORPG front though... maybe that new "Pirate of the Burning Sea" game? Might be fun to get away from the sword and sorcery stuff for a while. Or maybe we'll just spend some time LAN-gaming NwN2 and Hellgate (I think that has a co-op mode).
EB, being a major RTW fan.
I'm surprised you haven't included KotoR III, because I'm looking forward to its eventual, inevitable release. Any information about the KotoR sequel?
Gah! I forgot about Hellgate London. That should be a good one as well.Quote:

Not really that much that I want to play that's only for the PC. Since I don't do RPG's on the PC, only on consoles. Spore will be on the consoles, I'll play that there. Fallout 3 I really don't care about that. Mostly cause I never played Fallout 1 or 2, and Fallout tactics wasn't that great. I am equally blah about Supreme commander, again because I never play Total Annihilation.
In no particular order(I often wait the most for the one released next)
- Medieval 2
- Armed Assault
- Gothic 3
- Age of Pirates
- Game 2
- Supreme Commander
1.) Medieval 2
2.) Neverwinter Nights 2
3.) Galactic Civilizations 2: Dark Avatar (expansion)
The following games I'm keeping an eye on, but am not rabid with anticipation:
4.) Supreme Commander
5.) Command & Conquer: Tiberium Wars
6.) Warhammer: Mark of Chaos
If I knew a PC version was imminent, I would add Call of Duty 3 to the list. (Hey, a guy can hope!) ~D
Game 2. Definately. As well as ArmA.
I might get Spore.
Wow! Finally found someone who plays Cossacks 2? What did you think of it? I liked it but am not going to get the expansion because there are many better games out.Quote:

Supreme Commander, after seeing a gameplay trailer. Impressive stuff.
Also Assassins Creed, for the PS3, I presume that'll make its way to the PC someday.
Also looking forward to Hitman Blood Money.
And of course MTW2, and the (hopefully) accompanying mods.
An honourable mention to EB, I eagerly await the first full release.
MTW2, Spore and... actually I need to upgrade my computer before I consider anything else.
-RTR 7.0
-EB 1.0
-Res Gestae ~:santa:
-Supreme Commander
-M2TW
-Spore
-Crysis
-Battlestations:Midway
:furious3:I don't play RTS games online. And there was lots wrong with AoE3. It's gameplay is stuck in 1998 (it's the same problem I have with Warcraft 3). It's an infirior and 3D version of American conquest 1. That's my problem I played a better version of AoE3 3 years ago.Quote:

I haven't heard of that one - cool, I liked MP2: very nice story-telling, sharply drawn characters, atmospheric setting and decent gameplay. A shooter that was almost an RPG. It may even have been you, Swordsmaster who recommended it to me when I wanted another fix of something like Vampires: Bloodlines! :2thumbsup:Quote:

Isn't the same company now making Alan Wake ? That seems like an interesting game too.
I'm also interested in two console ports coming out soon: Devil May Cry 3 , and Resident Evil 4, but then I'm probably one of the few people who hasn't played them yet :shame:
What should have been changed? I think I know - your PC! The graphics were totally awesome.Quote:

It's not WW2, but have you ever played Vietcong? I now some here disagree with me, but I find it an excellent single-player historical shooter. Strikes just the right balance between realism and fun, and has a varied and gripping campaigh. Stay away from Vietcong 2 though.Quote:

Supreme Commander looks good as well though I doubt it'll be my kinda game... propably will need a new PC for those games though... :help:
I cranked the demo's graphics and my Athlon64 3200+ and X1300 rose to the challenge. 3D graphics don't make a good game, how it plays does. The safe and profitable no change to the core gameplay ethics of AoE3 made it extremely boring. After you've butchered 5000 Delaware warriors with 1000 Dutch line infantry in AC1, AoE3's 20 muskets who can't even get into a decent firing line is just totally infirior.Quote:

Well, I can't say I am anticipating too many games... I haven't got the time to play much and for now I can't even handle a meager 10% of my Oblivion fix needs (work and family consume soooo much time... I am cutting on sleep but after you reach the 4-hours a day mark it doesn't go lower without serious problems).
But I am anticipating the EB full release (have you people noticed that at least 5 of us are including among their most anticipated games a mod?) the Hegemonia mod for RTW, NWN 2 (although I never got fixed to NWN1) and most certainly MTW 2. Maybe I'll try the expansion for Civ IV, although I have played only a dozen hours of that game in the 4 months I own it (damn... forked out 45 euros and didn't find time to play...)
Ah, forgot that. Looks great.Quote:

Gothic 3: Well, the Gothic line of RPG games have always been the best in my eyes, just bad marketing.
Medieval 2: Total war: You know what I'm talking about..
1) EB 1.0
2) Full Throttle 2 (I know, I know...)
3) MTW2
4) Bioshock
5) Stalker
What is Bioshock? I have heard so much, but know so little. Could someone briefly tell me what the game is?
Bioshock (http://www.bioshock.co.uk/) is an game by Irrational - many of whom worked on the absolutely fantastic System Shock 2- set in a underseas station, where we get to walk around and fight big metal machine men; lobbing funny goo called "Adam" at them. Don't trust my rather limited previewing skills though, go buy this months pc gamer.
I just want to add World in Conflict, sometimes I just forget about a great game I´m looking forward to.:dizzy2:

...to put it mildly.
AOEIII...never tried that. I liked AOEII back in the day though; unfortunately I must admit it feels absolutely overpriced to buy what seems to be an ordinary sequel with such an investment.
Same thing for CivIV, Oblivion (though this one I expect to be spectacular, I don't have a computer for it; besides, the levelling-thing, and the conversion from the magnificent fantasy realm of Morrowind where crime-fested Balmora and outlandish Sadrith Mora exist side-by-side with amazing Daedric ruins to a generic "Medieval fantasy" puts me off.)
What I'm waiting now most is EUIII; I didn't try EUII, too old for me now, a newbie to the Paradox empire, but HOI2 hooks me to no end.
Second is Spore. Just for the hype.
Third...well, Medieval 2. Mandatory for an honest-to-His-Holiness-the-very-damnable-Pope Total War fan. I...will...kill..him...again! (evil laugh)
That's it really, unless I find something else interesting.
In truth, though, I have a lot of old games to catch up. Graphics...nah, not my thing. I like graphically impressive rpgs and fps, but strategy?
Who cares! It's incredibly beautiful to see my Third Reich stretches from the Atlantic to Moscow and India in a bland (by gaming standards) HOI2 map in a way that any AOE sprites cannot replicate. Ever.
Edit: Oh! How could I forget!
Two most important updates I've been waiting forever for are Mount&Blade 1.0 and EB 1.0
In no particular order:
M2TW
Combat Mission: Shock Force
NWN2
BioShock
Mount & Blade 1.0
Warhammer: Mark of Chaos
I'm looking forward to Unreal Tournament 2007. The main problem is however, I'll need a new system to play it. Here are a few (spoiled) images from Gamespot to illustrate why:

Looks to be well worth the wait ~D
SA: Yes! How could I forgot! UT was and is the bet FPS I've ever played, whatever the version. Godlike! :laugh4:
And I too need a bloody new computer for that. How much do you think will it need?

However, computers are like cars; they're out-of-date in no time. Prices for hardware usually drop off sharply after they've been out for a while. I can remember 2GB RAM used to cost a fortune (even more than a top-of-the-range gfx card), but now you can pick this up dirt cheap.
I recommend a website such as ebuyer for hardware parts. You get the usual 'fanboys' of the Nvidia and ATI series, but if you disregard this, you'll notice that this site has plenty to offer. If you know someone who can build computers, simply buy the parts and ask them to build it for you; retailers tend to charge through the nose for this service. Here's a link to ebuyer:

Being a drunkard isn't an excuse for swearing on the forums, gents. Even if it's a quote.
Those are taunts from the UT series, not my own language. Perhaps I should've put them in quotes to further illustrate their purpose.
The 2 taunts listed in my earlier post were included with the original Unreal Tournament, also known as UT99 or Classic UT. The taunts themselves have therefore been in circulation for a substantial period of time; however this may have been the first time you've encountered them.
Personally, I don't find them offensive because after all, they're originated from a game, and are not deliberately aimed at anyone IRL. Yeah, my ORG user name and description may suggest discretionary activities, but I use them from a light-hearted perspective.
[EDIT:]Above post now uses quotes to illustrate UT taunt origins (Unreal Tournament, released in 1999).
Tiberius you aren't a moderator yet.
Just thought I'd remind you.
If good advice must come from a mod to be valid then things are taking a downward turn around here.
For whatever interest it may be for patrons reading this, non-aimed swear words which aren't acceptable under a PG rule get edited and the user gets a 0 point warning. Those which are acceptable under PG get left, so long as they are non-aimed. Aimed swearing gets points; no cussing other people or using it to aggressively lay into a game/idea/whatever. Words blotted out by *s should be entirely removed, with no letters at all remaining. Mod consensus says if a letter remains and the word is not PG then it still gets hit.
Overall it is preferred if people don't swear at all, even to PG standards. It's easier not to cause upset than to apologise for it afterwards. Also, this is a family site with a wide range of user ages, cultures and backgrounds.
After looking back through the earlier posts made in this topic, I'd like to apologise to those that have taken offence to what was mentioned. Sometimes describing other games is a difficult procdure, and using extracts (such as taunts of a comical nature, aimed at nobody in real life) is a method of familiarising people who have played the same game with its experiences.
However, the taunts that were used were obviously not the most select phrases that could've been used, especially considering the diversity of age ranges that visit the forums.
Tiberius, you're entitled to your opinions with regards to areas such as this. There are spin-off posts I've read that could've been reacted to today, but I'm not the type of person who takes the bait and wishes to start a flame war. The moderators are kept busy enough as it is without having to sort out pointless arguements and people's differing points of view, and being forced to resolve the issue in the best possible way.
If you want an insight into how a user contributes to the forums, try doing a search of all the posts made by a member in question, hopefully this should provide a wider picture of someone's personality.
Anyway, back on topic. Here's a few more (spoiled) screens of UT2007, courtesy of Gamespot:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
I heard a while back that the next UT was going to make use of physics co-processors, if available, and feature a fairly destructable universe. Any more info on that? Or I am thinking normal Unreal?
I'm not sure drone, haven't done much research into UT2007 myself because I've been modding Rome: Total War for the best part of a year now. The only games I've played in between modding have been Medieval: Total War & Viking Invasion, as well as the original Unreal, which is still a cracking SP game.
I'm a real fan of how they created the atmosphere aboard the crash-landed Vortex Rikers, and how the whole game just flows smoothly, even though it takes ages to complete (which isn't a bad thing ~D).
