The EB Help Required Thread
Welcome Europa Barbarorum Fans!
I am tk-421, EB recruiter.
This thread is a place for fans to see what positions are avaible and needed within the EB group. Post here or PM me if you are interested. Note that if you volunteer as a text editor or description writer, this is not the best place to post your work.
The current empty spots are:
High Priority:
Scripters-EB has many scripts and even more will be included. At the moment, however, we have a lack of scripters. You don't have know everything about RTW scripting but experience would be nice. If you don't have that much experience it isn't much of a problem as long as you can be very active and are willing to learn.
Skinners- We really need more good skinners and modellers, especially those who are good with African, Arab, and Iranian units.
Experienced Traiter-We need people to work on traits. Experience with the traits files is very helpful (especially EB traits), but the most important thing is plenty of free time. A traiter would need to:
- Collect historical research from other team members.
- Produce new traits/ancillaries by translating historical information into the appropriate effects and triggers.
- Research the traits system and work to improve it.
Low Priority:
Nothing right now.
Is there something you think you can help with that isn't listed? Contact me anyway. EB is always happy to see people showing interest and offering help, and perhaps the job you want might be available.
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
Hey i know RTW scripting and have done some basic testing etc but dont have much experience. I would like to help EB so can i get to work on something strait away?
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
I could write descriptions. Also anything else you want me to do I'll do it. I would be very glad to help out in the creation of this awesome mod.
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
I've already PM'ed Dave about it, I'll spend some of my free time (not much of that) looking at the traits. So far I've already found a few errors, which I've posted in this topic.
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
Not a dev but afaik i have seen lots of ppl saying that descriptions writing is pretty much done unless you have some particuler knowledge (or a lot of spare time/good resources).
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
TK doesn't have sweboz particularly mentioned in the first post above - but he does say it in his signature. There are some factions that we do still need people, but unless the writer has some knowledge or at least a real desire and good resources to learn about that faction, there is not as much of a need.
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
The bit about the Sweboz descriptions has been added to thread. I thought I had put them in there awhile ago, guess not. Hopefully I'll be able to take it out soon, Lignator volunteered to write them but I think he's had a hard time finding sources.
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
I want to help in descripsions, speceali the getai, I have info on that
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
I have become highly interested in EB as of late, though I have continued to play RTR because EB .74 is just too buggy for me as of now to play for strict pleasure.
I would be interested in aiding the EB team in this project, however, as it looks to be well worth the long wait, and it has turned the entire game into something greater.
I know only a little about the script files and such for RTW, but I would be willing to learn a little.
English is my first language, and I am very good at grammar and spelling, so I would be able to help in that area especially.
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
We really could use someone to help with ethnicity traits and to get more acquainted with helping with traits in general. There are tons of examples in our current build even for people interested in learning more. Please post here or PM tk-421 if you have some traiting experience and are interested. Traits are extremely sensitive and precise, and it needs people who are downright obsessive compulsive about checking over them to make sure they are perfect or they mess lots of other stuff up. Current beta-testers might be considered first of course if they are interested.
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
Can I get an example of the trait-work? I don't have experience but I would like to get that.
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
I want to hlp you/ i can work in photoshop and i want to help with some TGAs. i have upgraded 3 of loading screens with barbarian warrior(there are some very sharp edges. now they are smooth). What shall i do to help?
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
I can help with text editing (I spent several horrible years of my life as an editor), some descriptions, research, etc. I also have a pretty good level of understanding of Latin. Unfortunatley, I am more or less programming illiterate.
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
I'm a PhD student in history and, being Romanian, I could help w the getai factions (unit, build descriptions, ancillaries based on cultural/religious traits)...

-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
Philos - our Getai people should be getting in touch with you, unfortunately things are sort of slow in some areas in the mod due to holidays.
Gazius - check your pm box for something from me, since I am the person along with krusader dealing with this issue you asked about.

Re: The EB Help Required Thread
are you still searching for a description of germanic boats?
I think it would be great if u redesigned the unit card for germanic boats (sorry to say that, but the pictue in 0.8 beta for the germanic boat hasn't got the same quality like those of the celtic, greek or roman boats). I can't draw on Pc but I can provide u with information and research: f.e. here's a link for a germanic boat that was in use at about 200-450 AD. there are other boats which have been in use earlier, but they don't have much differences: they are clinker-built, too, made of wood but the seize is different, some have been built even for warfare and were larger than the Nydam Boat. http://www.abc.se/~pa/uwa/nydam-e.htm
http://www.jadu.de/mittelalter/germanen/nordschiff.html (this one is in german language, but I can translate it if it's needed) the text says clear that whole northern Germany including the coastline of the baltic sea used such boats and were able to maintain them (but in 0.8 u only can recruit boats in Skandinavia without modern Denmark)
those internet resources are only a first view, but since there are pictures it may help ur designers to create better unit cards for them.
I would take the Nydam- coastlineboat as example for level 2 The most advanced germanic boat for EB would be in my mind the Saxon boats which were used to conquer Britain and some larger variants of those were able to carry more troops and even horses, just take it as suggestion for a level 3 germanic boat ( I know that those boats have been in use at the time around 400 A.D. and not in 270 B.C. but as far as I know, there are no found germanic boats, yet, which would fit into the EB-timeframe. there are drawings of germanic boats from about 1600 B.C. but then I would rather take those from about 200-200 A.D., which are closer to the timeframe of EB)
I would like to get into contact with Sweboz-team, I think I could help them if they need help with research and informations in general. I've already written some comments, which may be usefull: just check out europa barbarorum: missing stuff topic. If u don't like it it's ok, too.

Re: The EB Help Required Thread
I can help with scripting and writing text. I've been moding Vanella and BI for some time, and have a little experience with writing code.
I would also like to help with debugging patch .81.
Pleas e-mail piddyx@hotmail.com if you would like my assistance.

Re: The EB Help Required Thread
Ive got a quite a bit of free time here at college right now, and id be willing to text edit(ive worked as an newspaper editor before) or even do more complicated stuff with scripts, however, ive got 0 skill in that regard, but plenty of interest! im also a history major, while i dont have nearly the grasp on any of this stuff you guys do, I am extremely interested in helping as much as possible!

Re: The EB Help Required Thread
Is scripting anything like writing BASIC or C languages? I can program pretty well in those languages. If somone gives me a little help I'm sure I could catch on quickly. :book: I would be happy to help.
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
RTW's scripting language makes BASIC look like Assembler. The differences in flexibility are similar as well.
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
okay, so how could i help? do you still need scripters?

email me or pm me i would be glad to help EB
this is also my first post here :idea2: :juggle2:

Re: The EB Help Required Thread
Nice to hear you like our mod! I'll talk with a few of our scripters and I'll (or perhaps someone else from the team will) send you a pm.
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
I would like to help you in descriptions if you need any help. I have many Roman books for reference and history in general. I like EB so much that it would be an honour to help you.
Cheers.
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
Great to hear that you like EB! I don't if the Romans need any descriptions to be done, but I'll check. I'll send you a pm soon.
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
First of all: great mod! It's more than a mod, actually - it's more like a very good, very big expansion pack. I'm a very jaded hardcore gamer, but upon discovering EB, I had a 30 hour playing session. Not many games do this for me nowadays.
I'd like to offer my help with written text - editing new texts, or writing new ones. I'm a professional writer in RL, and as a matter of fact have written about 20 strat guides among other stuff. This may not be much of a recommendation - most strat guides are sh*t - so I'll give you my real name: Michael Rymaszewski. If you check, you'll find that the guides I've worked on are judged to be better than average, for what it's worth.
Let me know whether you'd like me to contribute.
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
We appreciate your interest in our mod adn even more that you want to help. I'm not sure if there are strat guides planned or other writing you could help us with but I'll check. You'll definately get a pm from me or another EB member.
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
I also can help with writing and to a lesser extent scripting. I will be receiving a BA in History and Classics, which I know is not a big deal, but I also work as a extra reader for 2 of my history profs.
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
What factions do you think you can help with and find interesting?
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
Rome, Koinon Hellenon ,Ptolemaioi, and probably the Sabyn. But most of my knowledge is based around Rome.

Re: The EB Help Required Thread
I'd like to help with editing descriptions - I have good grammar and really like this mod, and so would like to help out.
I sent a PM to tk-421, but after a week or so it's still unread, so maybe he's away or something.
Anyway, I'll have to admit I have very little technical knowledge, so you'll have to tell me exactly where to find these descriptions or how to edit them if there's any coding involved, but like I say, my English is pretty good :)
If you'd like me to get working on any descriptions, please do tell me! :beam:
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
Do you have a decent amount of historic sources at hand or acces at them? Which factions are you knowledgeable about and interested in?
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
I'm better at grammar than I am at history, but history definitely interests me, especially this period (i.e. "Roman Times") and c. 7-14C. AD. I'll have to admit I hadn't heard of half the factions in EB when I first started playing it (which was not so long ago), so I probably know the most about Rome (I study Latin, if that's helpful), although I suppose the Romani have loads of experts already.
However, I can always research something quite well if need be - get a book on it, search the internet, whatever. So, certainly, if tasked on writing a 100-200 word description of some Sauromatae building I've never heard of that's being included in the next build, I will do eventually do it - like I say, I can research stuff quite well - but you'd get your end product faster if you got a historian specialising in the Sauromatae to knock up a first draft, and then get me to edit it and clean up the grammar, change the style, or whatever else.
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
I or someone else of the team will send you a pm soon.

Re: The EB Help Required Thread
could you be a bit more specific about what the ''skinning work'' includes? Does it mean also working with models, or just with existing (empty or otherwise) skin files?
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
Skinning would be textures only. Tough ofcourse if you can model too, that's even better. Skinning however only reflects to textures, mostly made from scratch.

Re: The EB Help Required Thread
Hi.
It's not on your list but I am good at doing accents and speaking languages. I can fool people that I am french no problem. I think you could use more voice actors. If you wanted I could make a file of me doing examples of different world accents and saying phrases in different languages. Ive been told my german accent is 'perfect' (by a german) and french people have thought im french in the past. Some variation in the voice actors in the battle scenes would be good. I am willing to learn. Im studeous. Im currently a student and I study Pharmaceutical Chemistry. I find learning and speaking new languages fun and i think i could be a good addition to the mod. I have experience as a radio DJ for student radio so I have some background experience doing voiceover etc.
hellomynameised@hotmail.co.uk
I have some good sequencing software which is excellent at altering the acoustics of recorded sound. I could get anything I say to sound like its on a battlefield no problem.
I have welsh, greek, french, spanish, german, panjabi, urdu, gujarati... friends who could be used to help triangulate correct pronunctiation. I can speak bits of Russian, Italian, Cantonese, Japanese, French, German, Polish and Panjabi. And probably some more if i think about it.
Thanks for your time.
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
Forgot Arabic friends and being able to speak a bit of it which is relevant too.
Please don't think that I think that the languages spoken in 272BC are the ones people speak today!
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
Oh yeah I think the voiceovers in the first version of the game are shameful. The only faction that doesnt sound retarded is Rome but why do they speak in an American accent? The Cathaginians sound just plain stupid. The language they spoke was semitic and similar to Hebrew (according to wikipedia) but I know your language people will know much more about it than I do. Id be happy to listen, learn, copy then personalise. :D
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
I'm finally on shore duty, with a lot more time, so I figured I'd get off my butt and offer my services to this outstanding mod.
My R:TW-specific scripting experience mostly consists of flipping through the EB scripts and tweaking things for a personal minimod. I think I've got a pretty good handle on things, but I've still got a lot to learn about it. Nevertheless, due to the "constant need for scripters" I hear about, that's probably the primary service I'd offer.
I can also scrape the rust off my Attic Greek if that'd be helpful, though the professor who taught me was sort of a maverick, so I may need to relearn some pronunciation to conform to a standard; I'd also be very enthusiastic about learning to pronounce anything else that needs spoken. Corollary to that, I have access to some papers on Greek pronunciation that didn't receive very wide circulation at the time of their publication that the language team may find interesting. This is the sector I'd prefer to work in, if there's any sort of need for me.
Finally, I can help clean up text.
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
Thanks for offering help and having interest in our mod. Both of you should be contacted by an EB-member, if you haven't been already, shortly. (Pm)

Re: The EB Help Required Thread
Since there don't seem to be a "help required" thread in the EB2 forum, I will ask here... Do you still need some staff for EB2 ? As many people down here, I love the mod and I would be very proud if I could help a little.
I am a professional modeler and texturer, working for cgi movies and cartoons for 6 years now (I can provide you with works samples if you want). Oh, and I am a History lover, sometimes doing reenactment, and I have even worked for historical 3d projects. I usually work on Maya and Photoshop, but I use 3ds Max sometimes.

Yes, we certainly could use help for EB II. However it may take some time until we start on producing EB II units.
Our unit coordinators are Urnamma and Aymar de bois Mauri. I think it's best to pm Urnamma and tell him that you want to help with texturing and modeling for EB II. Showing some samples might not be a bad idea.

Hi all,
I heard that the EB team needed an animator so I thought I might poke my head in here and offer to be an animator. I am inexperienced with making animations, but I'm undergoing tutorials of Maya and I am studying digital animation and 3D modeling as a major. If you guys feel like I'm of any interest, (pm) me sometime.

Re: The EB Help Required Thread
Any help required as regards sound editing or anything music related? I am first of all a physicist but am also a guitarist and sound aficionado. I share a small homerecording studio and have recorded semi professionally a friend's band and one of my ex-band's songs. I have a very good knowledge of editing and sequencing (using Cubase and Wave plugins) and a workable knowledge of computer created music (mainly through Reason). I'd be glad to give some of my time to anything related.
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
Perhaps the voice mods? For music, we're looking mostly for very specific pieces, like the ones we have already.
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
IF you are still looking for anyone for scripting, research, fact checking, basic map changing, beta testing or wter carrying, please let me know! More than willing to help. I am a professional programmer a history buff, so I'm certain I could learn other things, such as texturing and would very much like to learn more intricate map contruction, but these are the only areas I have first a great deal of immediate confidence in. PM for EB 1.1 or EB 2

Re: The EB Help Required Thread
I have been an avid fan of Europa Barbarorum for a number of years now and cannot commend your work enough.
I generally play as the roman faction as I like the political system and now the new provincial government system as well. However, having looked through the traits and name files I notice that there are a very limited range of family names (gens) with associated cognomens. As such I was wondering if you had need of someone to research the names and assosciated details for the gens information as I would love to contribute to this. I especially note the absence of famous names like Pompeius and Marius although there are many more I could also name. As I said, I would love to contribute to any work on this as it is both a time period I am very interested in and I also thoroughly enjoy playing the game. Please get back to me if you are interested in more information.

We can easily come up with hundreds of names. The restriction is due to coding issues: creating and passing on names and associating them with traits.
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
Ok, I understand. Although I am a little confused as version 0.81 had a huge range of names although they didn't work in the same way. If you would like someone to work on this or anything to do with similar information gathering etc then let me know as I'd be interested in helping.
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
Cognomens
In the original Rome Total War game, the major characters (I am only certain for this for the Romans) after a time would get new cognomens, like the Kind, the Harsh etc. In the current version of Europa Barbarorum the only one that I ever seem to get is Corpulentus i.e Fat. I was wondering if this was taken out of the game and whether it is something that can be put back if so or worked on so that the generals can develop. I know that for conquering different nations a general can become congomated with Gallicus, Africanus etc, but is there room or scope to add other ones tied in with the personal characters traits. For instance, for the trait 'Touched by the Gods' upon reaching the 3rd level of this trait becoming cognomated with Pius or for the trait Bloodthirsty upon reaching level 3 of the trait becoming Carnifex (i.e the Buthcer). Obviously there are many more but these were a couple of simple examples. I Would be interested to know if this were possible or something that is being worked on.
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
There are Gallicvs and such, but not many more. Part of the problem is that their middle name is lost along with their last when they get a title. Also, I don't recall any Roman ever called "Pious" or such by his contemporaries during this time frame.
-
Re: The EB Help Required Thread
Yeah, i know that the middle names all seem to get lost when this happens. Its just that the cognomen was such a large thing in the roman world i wondered whether more of it could be included. As for the Pius, i believe that the son of Quintus Caecilius Metellus Numidicus a contemporary of Gaius Marius was cognomated Pius after spending many years trying to return his father from exile. Heres a wiki link for it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quintus..._Metellus_Pius

Re: The EB Help Required Thread
As I've already PM'ed, my Dad can do artwork for this. I'm not sure what I can do, as I've never modelled or skinned in my life before, but I might have a go at skinning, as it looks a lot easier than modelling. I am also able to do Historical/Geographical research if need be.
Also available for any long work (ie, copying out long lists, changing multitudes of values, editing to a template, etc.)

I think you should post this in EBII forum, as EBI no longer needs any help and team might not notice your message here.
