Not a preview, but...
Inquisitive people may find a new EB unit that was shown for the first time within the last few days if they have enough time on their hands and visit other RTW sites. :laugh4:
Please don't spoil the fun by linking to it too quickly though. Let folks have a little scavanger hunt on their own if they're interested. (Muwhahahaha!)

Re: Not a preview, but...
Perhaps the "Koinon Hellenon Strategos" unit by Spartan_Warrior? It looks amazing. As requested, no link though. :)
-
Re: Not a preview, but...
Does this mean that this forum is not the place to get EB info? :o
-
Re: Not a preview, but...
In this specific instance? Yes.

It couldn't be it, could it? Unless, if by 'other RTW sites' TA was talking about EB's own site.

My mistake then, keep on looking. :)
I was looking at this site and hadn't seen that unit yet: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=56722

Thanks.
I noticed BTW that the to the Pontic Sarmatian foot archer doesn't work. It lacks the ".jpg"-extension.

Re: Not a preview, but...
Well, a shoddy coverup before by the webmaster (:sweatdrop: ) seems to be the reason this page, which was not supposed to be released atm, to be released :laugh4:
Enjoy the units listed there...and as a mild "punishment" consider it the August preview. :balloon2:

Re: Not a preview, but...
Yeah, saw that when the site announced a new models section and found it wasn't working. Looking great!
-
Re: Not a preview, but...
Thanks for the link. A lot of good stuff there. :2thumbsup:

Me too. I thought that I couldn't get to the models page because Krusader's OnMouseOver javascript thingy wasn't being quite understood by Firefox or the Proxomitron, so I went there the manual way. It wasn't hard to extrapolate the correct filename.

Re: Not a preview, but...
Aren't there also some new units on the homepage? I didn't recognise the Gallic standardbearer, for instance.
Also, going over some images, there's an unit on the EB site which definitely confirms what the next faction will be. It's a public image, just look carefully.

Re: Not a preview, but...
I love the idea of seperating Carthaginian units into early and late. May I ask what the late units represent - more like Carthage towards the end of the Punic wars or a "what-if Carthage had won" type? I suppose it's probably in between (i.e. based on developments late in the Punic Wars), but what is the spirit of these units biased towards?

When does carthage reform? Same time as Polybian and Neitos? Will this be dynamic in .8?

Do you mean the Skythian nobles unit? That's probably just going to be a AOR unit for the steppe factions. I doubt they would be adding another steppe faction, 3 is good since the steppes are already pretty poor*money wise*.

Hmmm, can`t seem to locate it...
Unless the Teutons are finally becoming a faction. :laugh4:

Re: Not a preview, but...
ha! Wardo that link doesnt work!

Re: Not a preview, but...
Compare images on shields to the released faction symbol. It's on the site.
-
Re: Not a preview, but...
Nope, call me blind, but i`ve sought it for 30min, and to no avail...
-
Re: Not a preview, but...
I cannot see this "new faction" amongst the units either, the only other faction symbol I know of that is not in the game is the white goat symbol (which may be in the game for all i know) but i cant find any new symbold on the shields other than the bruttian and skythian one.....give me another clue plz........

As of right now, there is no reform. The units are available from the start, as long as you have the right level MIC. Couldn't tell you whether they will be in the next build, but if they are they will probably either be scripted or dynamic.

I believe they are based on the reforms made to the army by the Greek Mercenary general Xanthippus after the first Punic War. I'm not sure if he was the actual reformer, or if the reforms came after the first War or more closely to the Polybian reforms by Rome. I do know that the impact of the reforms on the soldiers of Carthage were felt by the time of the Second Punic war, as Hannibal led his most elite of Carthaginian troops against Rome with their reformed equipment. And with his tactics to back it up, these men formed the backbone of his force, until late in the conflict when he had to rely on a majority of mercenary troops from Italy and Gaul.

Re: Not a preview, but...

So we don't get to hear about the revised recruitment or other new faction? Will Khelvan not even tease us with hints?
-
Re: Not a preview, but...
Having read through the whole of this thread and not found a single link to the picture you're talking about that works i'm rather pissed off. Could somebody who is in the know clarify to me what unit skin we are discussing here and give me a link to a picture of the god damn unit skin.
-
Re: Not a preview, but...
I am not quite sure which unit it is either, but the team has uploaded several new models in the gallery of the EB website under 3D models.

I assume that it`s the greek general skin...
I thought that it was pretty obvious (Koinon Hellenon=Greek, Strategos=General). :juggle2:

Re: Not a preview, but...
It was not on the eb.com page at first - but it was on the twcenter.net poll for best skinner/modeler. That was the one I was referring to. Krusader has since then made it also available on the models section of the eb website.
It is indeed the KH general, by Spartan Warrior.

What is this "AOR" of which you speak?

Nice!
And, to paraphrase a popular internet ninja: "I look forward to killing him soon!"

Oh I found what unit you mean yesterday. Heheh.

It was already present in M:TW and R:TW for some units. R:TR just took it further and made most units recruitable in certain areas only. They weren't even the first to do that: WesW's MedMod v3 for M:TW already limited recruitment of faction-specific units to the homelands.

It is. EB just has something similar but much more complex.

Re: Not a preview, but...
Does this mean the KH Strategos will be an infantry unit that shield is so big it looks like it would have clipping issues if he where mounted?
-
Re: Not a preview, but...
The KH strategos is indeed going to have a foot unit as the bodyguard.
-
Re: Not a preview, but...
Is it going to be a royal spartan unit or another hoplite unit?
-
Re: Not a preview, but...
It may still be under discussion, but I think it will be another elite hoplite unit. There are some good arguments for and against using the Spartans. I sort of favor the spartans, but I definitely understand how reasonable people could see a preference for the other unit instead. For 0.8, they might be spartans though since the other unit isn't ready yet I don't think.
