At last, I have a way to arm my children at bedtime! Behold! The Armor of God PJs!
Gots ter gets me some o' those!
You too can protect your kids from the evils of the world,
for only $39.95 (plus shipping)!
I love the fact that you get a free New Testament with every PJ purchase. Not a full Bible, just the New Testament. Do they not want to subject kids to the fire and brimstone Old Testament stuff, or maybe the Old Testament is just a bit too, um, Jewish for the kinds of people who would buy this stuff. Couldn't find any info on the version you get, be interesting to know.
I wonder if these are fire-retardant, or are the parents and purveyours relying on the will of God to keep the children from emulating the Burning Bush? :inquisitive:
Looks like something Ned Flanders would get his kids.... :laugh4:
It doesn't help that the kid to the right looks like a dork who'd grow up to be a full-blown 1331-wannabe, WoW-crazed, pwnager idiot -- as is particularly plausible in stereotypical middle class families of great religious qualities -- at fifteen. :sweatdrop:
...and he'd probably be wearing that to play Dark Age of Camelot or something...
Hehehehe, stupid Christians. Hehehee, let's make fun of them, they're all that we still can.
What do you care if somebody reads the bible and actually espouses the metaphors and teachings held within? Man, talk about ugly.
It's okay to have your kid in Snoop Dog pajamas or any other current entertainment icon, but you're an unfit parent if you dare to use religious symbolism.
So?
You guys don't have a problem with Power Ranger jammies do you?
Hm, you're taking this a bit seriously.Quote:

These PJs, on the other hand, are hilarious. The subject of the joke is neither Christianity nor Jesus, but rather a silly product meant to capitalize on both. If you can't make that distinction ...
It's worse than that.....he's dead Jim!!
Engerlund....Engurlund.....
[what have i done?] :sweatdrop:
I don't argue that somebody is trying to capitalize on somebody else's rather simplistic faith, as the armour of God St. Paul described in Ephesians was clearly a metaphor, even to the original readers at the time of it's writing. Now, you didn't mention a price. For all I know, these are available for a nominal donation.
What's more, there seems to be a certain idea that Chrisitans (fundamentalist and others) are the last group left that it's PC to ridicule. Being a not-so-fundamentalist Christian, I do take issue with the ongoing portrayal of the simple stupid rubes that believe the crap in the so-called Good Book. I mean, any educated person knows it's all a bunch of hooey and that it's sole remaining purpose is to identify the sophisticate from the ignoramus, by providing fodder for jokes.
Even if fundamentalist Christians are so limited in their thought prowess as popular culture, and Backroom culture for that matter, would have us believe, I'd think you'd have better points to make then ridiculing a group of people that are more deserving of your pity then your scorn.
If only the world would follow your fine example. :wall:Quote:

I'd say the safest people to make fun of would be Wahabbist Muslims, but I could be wrong.
P.S.: Osama and Whitney, sittin' in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G ...
Self-victimizing today, are we? I suspect not many of us actually believe the "Christians are stupid! Boohoo!" thing, and that you get a little too iffy for it. But it's understandable, considering the anti-religious sentiments expressed in posts in that other thread. Oh, and I'm sure many of us continue to make fun of as many stereotypes as ever; some that are avoided (branded PC, I suppose) are understandably so based on the sensitiveness of their historical backgrounds, or simply of current issues -- past oppression, guilt complex, an attempt to challenge the relatively mainstream "you're gay, this is gay, I'm insulting your mom" or "talk funny Asians must be Muslims Arabs terrorists help" or a-thousand-other-causes, in which, if you wish, you can add "please stop making fun of the fundies" to the list.Quote:

I've never witnessed to any of you that didn't raise the topic first, never judged you by the rules I set for myself, I don't hold or support creationsim or any of the other usual things the secular crowd laughs at all Christians for.
But yep, you guys keep telling yourselves how enlightened and sophisticated you are, and how thin skinned I am. I CAN take a joke and yes, those kids do look ridiculous. It's not the joke, it's the tone, and I'm done with this conversation.
What in the name of hell is that supposed to be ... PJ's complete with shield, hat and, uh, that cloth thingy hanging from the girl's hat?
Where do you keep the shield while sleeping?

And God cried. :shame:
There PJs for gods sake something a mum used to help her kindalen go to bed. Nothing more nothing less there just Pjs.
Yet more proof (to me) that "Sales" Christians are all secretly huge potheads.

But I have to tell you: the Christians in here need to lighten up a bit. You guys have really flown off the handle over nothing in this thread.

The problem with your analogy is that I would be another gay man, but one who could laugh about it. I can't imagine apologizing about anything I've said re: Christians and Christianity, especially seeing as I am one. If you can't see that religion in general and Christianity in particular are safe as houses in this country, I recommend you join Divinus Arma at the End Is Nigh booth, where they're handing out free apocalypse survival kits. Meet me in Wisconsin, where we'll bribe the Lord Humungous and his leathermen with gourmet brownies.
How come they have to be the English Flag? Why couldn't they look any different. Obviously aimed at the English Football fans or Episcopalians. Doesn't God say not to advertise your "Christian-ness"? Despite being Christian, I do not think this was a good idea and this thread has become hijacked. Damm hijackers!
As the thread starter, I would like to officially sanction any thread hijacking and derailing, so long as it's in the cause of humor and/or silliness.

Xiahou, we're going to have to agree to disagree. If following the teachings of Jesus does not make one a Christian, and one must subscribe to the entire Nicean creed to be in the club, then most of our founding fathers were not Christian by your lights. Very sorry I don't believe in the literal divinity of Jesus. Remember that christos literally means anointed, not "physical embodiment of divinity."
I still don't see why poking fun at gaudy, tasteless attempts to capitalize on Christianity is offensive to you.
Could you please explain what you mean by the Christ? If that refers to his so-called divine nature, then the man could possibly be one of the Christians (here the term encompasses all faiths based on a common belief, whether they are Protestantism, Orthodoxy, Romano-Cahtolicism, or any of other beliefs possible) that Jesus was simply a mortal inspired by God to spread faith.Quote:

I then point out that the sick b*****d seems to be there when one hell of a lot of pain and suffering occurs but doesn't lift a finger. Similarly with these pictures - why not have Jesus pushing the finger of a man holding a gun, or tripping an old lady down the stairs?

Yeah, then you get into "The Bible was written by men - with free will - yet is the last word and work in Christianity". All other material that was removed or not cannonised was chosen by man with his free will... oh, except that this was a faultless process with no errors whatsoever (as there have been few revisions).Quote:

If free will is taken, there is no certainty of anything that is written by men over time. So people are then following the altering egos of powerful men. Whether God was present at some point becomes less and less easy to discern.

Yeah, the literal translation of christ is "annointed one", but in terms of the Christian faith it refers to the biblical Jesus Christ, which in addition to being our source for almost everything we know of Jesus' teachings- also speaks of his divinity and resurrection. You do have a point about our founding fathers- many, iirc, would be considered Unitarians which, technically, are not Christians and most modern Unitarians don't consider themselves Christians as far as I can tell. However, Unitarians did and generally do have a strong reverance for our Judeo-Christian tradition.Quote:

I never said I found it offensive. I said they look silly- like something Ned Flanders would buy his kids, but said (later) if someone bought them and their kids wanted to wear them, I could care less. I wasnt upset by the thread topic, I just commented that I didnt really think it fair to say "Im a Christian too" as a defense, when (at the very least) your beliefs are outside what's generally considered Christianity. :bow:Quote:

Just like patients in hospital: when something goes well they thank God, when something goes wrong they complain to the doctors.
We did the thing that went right. Free will and all that. The massive heart attack that no one expected is in God's domain: thank us when things go right, blame god when the unexpected goes wrong. Miracles can be bad as well as good.

Actually, if you allow free will (an unfashionable philosphical position, I think), I thought yesdachi's story was quite good as these things go.
Oh and Rory, while we are doing stories here's an old one for you: What's the difference between a cardiac surgeon and God?
God doesn't think he's a cardiac surgeon...
God doesn't interfere with free will. He does his miracles through US. The surgeon does a bypass, the firefighter saves a life, the soldier protects his family, the businessman keeps people employed, the coach builds team spirit and character, the mom loves her kids. Every task we do can be done for the Lord or it can be done for ourselves. But this does not mean the two are mutually exclusive. I do things for me and to please God.
Rather then saying "Jesus is with all of us" I would rather say, "We all have a little Jesus in us" (no funny ideas you sickos). I'm no christian, my point is only that we each have the potential to do God's work and live our lives for him. We all have the ability to be our own savior. Our only purpose on this planet is for God's pleasure- we are mini versions of him, capable of doing His will or doing our own. I can't speak for everyone else, but I would point out that doing good feels right for a reason. And doing evil feels horrible not because of our upbringing, but because it is against our own purpose. People continually do evil because they have accepted evil as part of their life.
As for natural events: God operates within his own laws of science. Weather events and such are what help keep this planet, our oversized aquarium, working smoothly. We have waves to surf, mountains to climb, forests to explore, and sky to dive. In order for us to have any of it, there must be storms, avalanches, and fires. If you want to blame God for natural disasters then be equally pissed off at gravity and oxygen. He knows this crap is going to kill alot of us, but by followinghis will we may eventually have further rememedies to protect or prevent death and injury from these events. We can desalt ocean water, I am sure we can one day have better tsunami warnings and corresponding shelter capabilities.
Besides: If there is no God, you can never proof it since it would be a universal negative. :laugh4:
Now can we please get back on track making fun of religion? :focus: :laugh4:
