Yeah, the fact that the Readme.txt of the 'officially' downloadable version called it the Special Edition, made me figure the sites were just releasing the PC gamer version & Sega allowed it to prevent/circumvent everyone getting it through unofficial channels.

I've been expecting a 2nd non-SE version to come out (or be cancelled outright due to wide availability of the SE).

Hopefully we'll get to see a custom battle without scripted AI & ability to select units/upgrades.
Or at least Auto Generated armies without scripted AI.

Nothing. But you figure that by the time people get the torrent uploaded and seed it until its selfsustaining itll probably be a day two later. SO whoever preorders gets the demo for two days or so before most anyone else will be able to.

I was planning on preordering from amazon anyway in the coming week so im rather pelased with the news. I very much hope that they offer the demo at a decent download rate though.

I would be suprised if CA released a new demo because there is only just under 4 weeks to go before the release of the game on the 14th for the US 16th Australia. A new demo would be nice to have a look at and compare changes, improvements, etc with the old demo. I for one would not be suprised to hear by the end of this week 20th Oct (in Australia) that MTW2 had gone gold and then give it at least 2 weeks to be shipped out ready for the worldwide release.

Maybe they plan to release a new demo after the release of the official game.

I would say its also just possible that they listen to the forums for feedback and did not like too much what they heard. Also likely they had some thoughts about exclusive or illegal being the only way in which a demo was being distributed which forced their hand for the first one, and it may be something they need to think about for the second one.

They probably released the demo earlier than they planned. My guess is that they were forced to release the demo because of the whole "internet leak" problem.

Also, I think I've heard that the current demo is based on beta or pre-beta code.

I think it's fully possible. I mean a demo is not that hard to make i would think consider the fact that not only do they have 4 weeks and our mostly done. They also have developed the code so modders seem to nto be able to crack it right away. While it might get on torrent eventually keep in mind the flood of demo ppl who got the leak was about 3 days after it as another said.

Seems possible and I hope it does, you preordered for a exclusive you should get one. I didn't preorder but I think rest of you should get something.

well, because they promised Amazon an exclusive demo, and because of some mistake that demo has gone public too fast. So now they still have a contractual obligation to give them some exclusive

Also because they don't want to lose potential customers. They don't want the demo to give the wrong impression. For example, if the final build of the game will support Athlon XP processors, they wouldn't want their demo to give the impression that Athlon XP processors are not supported. Thus the released of a new and updated demo.

The final build is not going to support Athlon XP processors in multiplayer. They should put a big yellow sticker on the box warning potential buyers of that.

We don't know that yet - they just said there were issues at the moment. Wel'l have to wait and see. :inquisitive:

Palamedes was quite definite that Athlon XP processor will not be supported for multiplayer in the released game due to unresolved issues. There's no time to fix those issues now because they have to go gold now to meet a Nov 14 release date. These issues may be fixed in a patch.

In multiplayer, the only info that goes between the machines in a battle are the commands issued by the players. All the calculations that occur during a battle are made on each machine independently, and those calculations have to give exactly the same result on each machine otherwise the battle desyncs. Apparently under some battle conditions, Athlon XP's are giving a different result than Pentium's. For instance, a man might die on your machine but not on the other machines in the battle because an arrow had a slightly different trajectory, so you will go out of sync and be dropped from the battle. There's a good bit of time between handing off the final build of the code/ressources and the actual release of the game. That time could be used to make a new demo without detracting from the time spent on the main game. They can't keep coding right up to the day before release, you know.

Besides, if they are gonna release a new demo that they put a custom battle into the game. Historic battles are full of scripts and they don't give any clear image to us.

AthlonXP is now renamed Sempron in their confusing AMD nomenclature.

The Sempron is a cut-down, budget version of the Athlon 64 and is a completely different core and architecture to the Athlon XP. The XP is a socket A 32bit processor and the sempron i a socket 754 or socket AM2 64bit processor.

Please ignore the above post as incorrect cause the Athlon XP hasn't been renamed Sempron at all. In fact, until the XP was discontinued, both CPUs were available concurrently. :inquisitive:

Hopefully an Athlon 64 is enough for MP!!! :laugh4: My prediction: We will need cpus from the next millennium for playing 3vs3 or 4vs4 comparable with MTW vi. Otherwise they had given a 3vs3 demo to us and not such a :dizzy2: äähh such a demo like we got.

In 3 weeks we will see it. The dev blogs make some hope. :balloon2:

Well, if they were smart they would start work immediately on the patch; I suspect there are a number of features and bugs which did not make the final cut but could be worked on for the first patch.

Also they probably need a bit of a rest.

There are actually 5 different core generations of 2 primary types on 3 different sockets.

The Socket A Semprons are AthlonXP renamed & thus don't have SSE2.

The Socket 754 Sempron is a renamed Athlon64 which means they have got SSE2. (later models have SSE3 too)

There are now also Sempron for Socket AM2, again Athlon64 renamed so have SSE2

It sucks its only for preorders tho..maybe i will get the collectors edition.

You can use the regular UI that is very similar to the one introduced in RTW, or the minimal UI seen in the screenshots.

I would assume that's the case. I live in the USA, so why would I order through the UK branch of Amazon? A demo is just advertising anyway, and I'd think CA would want it distributed as widely as possible. So this probably means people who pre-ordered in the UK can download it slightly ahead of everyone else.

I wish the demo was unscripted instead of another historical battle. That would answer a lot of questions for those of us still on the fence about the battle AI. Well, at least it will be good eye candy with all those jaguar guys running around.

Anyway,I'm unsure which side you will be able to play.Probably the spanish I guess?
Also,in the full game,will historical battles be playable on two sides?It would be quite lame if Pavia for example was only playable on German side :shame:

Is the demo just for Amazon UK? I preordered with Amazon US a little while ago and i havent heard anything about it form them.

I pre-ordered from Play and haven't heard anything. Not that I care or anything cause it'll just be another scripted historical battle and tell us very little about the game apart from eye candy ~:)

I’m angry at CA for this its not OUR fault somebody screwed over the demo release so we get a really old one them they release another one showing what the game will really be like AND THEY MAKE IT JUST FOR PEOPLE THAT HAVE ALREADY BASICLY BOUGHT IT I’m extremely annoyed and I think its completely unfair to not have it released for everyone. Thanks for nothing CA you’ve acted like a real sell-out. Bundling the demo early with that pc magazine and now making us pay again to play it. No yo mention the SEE2 thing to try and force people to buy new amds or use Intel. Smells like a payoff to me… I hate when developers I really like turn out to be corporate minded creeps…

The demo will be available for everyone. The preorder people just get it couple days before others.

I think you're quite right.

Sounds interesting. I haven't heard anything from Play.com about a new demo, so I guess I'll just have to get my hands on it a little bit later.

And as for the SSE2 thing, Ca have said the full game will not require SSE2, just SSE. And the 2nd demo will become available to the public about 2 days after the people who preordered get it.

And as for the SSE2 thing, Ca have said the full game will not require SSE2, just SSE. And the 2nd demo will become available to the public about 2 days after the people who preordered get it.

Oh well at least that parts not so bad. I through that an exclusive demo woudl stay exclusive as in only preorders through amazon ever got it and the rest of the world never would. I cant order through amazon because they wont ship to australia so i had to pre order through EB games. Ill still get the cool collecters ed tho :D

I hope econ starts a new thread for the new demo. The other demo thread is long enough already, and it will hopefully stop people getting confused about which demo they are reviewing.

I think that only the pre-orderers will get the demo because i was told taht i will recieve the link and a password to download it.so i think not everybody will get this password.i have pre-ordered with gameplanet and i get the demo so i imagine that also the amazon.com give it
