As an American, I will tell you that this is true. I'm not studied up on it, but there are large segments of the Evangelical movement which believe that it is every true Christian's duty to hasten the coming of the Apocalypse, because all of the true Christians will be whisked away to forever happy-happy land before anything bad happens. There is a whole like 10-book series of popular novels, which have sold very well, which deal with these ideas (the first one is called "The Rapture" I believe). And there is a looney daytime TV show called the 700-club where this white-haired guy and a botoxed church lady call viewers to pray and to send donations; and one of the things they'll often talk about is how we must help Israel so that Christ can come again.
If you are still skeptical, google "The Rapture" and "The 700 Club".
America is filled with crazy people, which I think results from our irreverant "fresh idea" heritage being combined with the syptoms of a decadent society.

Then again, millions of people all over the world genuinely believe that the Virgin Mary appears to them in bagels and windowpanes. That's pretty crazy. Probably harmless though.
The lemur has a shocking number of neighbors who disbelieve evolutionary theory. It's kind of creepy. They'll say, "It's just a theory." Lemur says, "Right, and gravity is just a theory. The speed of light is just a theory. Do you fight them too?"

To be fair, all I know for sure about gravity is that things fall down when they're put into the air. If the teaching of evolution in US schools is anything like the patronizing lessons I received about gravity in high school, it's not much wonder that a large number of people remain unconvinced.Quote:

I'm going to bet that is the case here for a majority of it. It's a badly worded question. One that doesnt implicitly ask if they actually support violence to get there or just a fund raiser for isreali orphans. But sadly the linguistic capabilities of some of the individuals is in question also, I doubt many people understand what christian zionism means.Quote:

Those living in the east (66 percent) are the most likely to say they do not believe in Christian Zionism, while those living in south (35 percent) and in the central Great Lakes region (36 percent) are the most likely to believe. Protestants (40 percent) are significantly more likely to believe than are Catholics (19 percent). African Americans (40 percent) are more likely to believe in this than either Hispanics (33 percent) or whites (29 percent). Republicans (37 percent) are more likely to believe in Christian Zionism than are Democrats or independents (28 percent each).I am rooting for the 53% who do not believe in it.

Anyway, this type of belief system appears to have been very common throughout the history of America. Many sects and cults thrived in the west else they would have been either extinguished or their movement hampered back in the Old World. Ever hear of the 7th Day Adventists?
To be fair, I met a person who I believe was an Adventist. He was very nice, and did not personally seem to be hoping for the world to burst into flames while he was whisked away. He did refer to me as "The Devil" once...

We, the rational don't-get-the-publicity-because-we-aren't-idiots Christians, are mostly educated moderates. I believe some parts of the Bible are metaphors, but most of it is true.
I am just glad that, me being an Armenian Apostlic, these people and I share very few beliefs besides that in Jesus of course.
