All the Generals' Traits and their effects listed.
Well, after a few nights laborious and, frankly, boring work, I've finished compiling the spreadsheet of every single trait which can be applied to a General and it's effects. I haven't done agents yet, but i'll get round to it eventually.
For now, you can download it from my webspace but if anyone would care to help me to create a table in a forum post and I can present it that way - I'd greatly appreciate it. i've no idea how to do tables so it's a link to an Excel spreadsheet for now. The spreadsheet is optimised for A4 landscape printing if all your margins are 0.5cm should you want to print it :2thumbsup: You'll need Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Excel Viewer to read it and it's also compressed so none Windows XP users will need Winzip or Winrar or something.
So for all you guys who want to edit your own generals and role play your family's traits better.....

Re: All the Generals' Traits and their effects listed.
Great job thanks, i didn't know there were so many traits in MTW2.
-
Re: All the Generals' Traits and their effects listed.
Nice list! Great Job!
Now if anyone can figure out how to reduce some of the bad traits. I think every dang general of mine is an adultress....:(
I just hate moving generals in and out of towns for the sake of them not getting a bad trait.

give_trait this traitname 0
-1 also works, but 0 is probably safest. Removes the trait in question.

No I meant a guide to not really getting them to begin with. Altho I did lose a drinking trait once got married, but not sure if you can lose any other negative traits like bad taxes and such.'
But I do thank you for that, I may decide to do it that way sometime..:)

Re: All the Generals' Traits and their effects listed.
The strategy guide has them all listed out. It also has a table listing all ancilary characters and a bunch of other neat stuff. But I guess listing them out yourself will save you $20.

Re: All the Generals' Traits and their effects listed.
Thanks for the list. Excellent stuff.

Re: All the Generals' Traits and their effects listed.
Not sure if I've had a general who didn't acquire Pagan Magician within a turn or two of coming of age. Really would like to remove that one completely :/

Re: All the Generals' Traits and their effects listed.
my last three kings have all been either Dangerously Mad or Utterly Insane.
kind of annoying, but funny enough that i don't really care. there must be something wrong with the royal genetics.
-
Re: All the Generals' Traits and their effects listed.
I had an heir that was totally insane, unfortunately i dont think many of my generals would have been happy serveing under him so i arranged a little "accident" in the holy lands, well it can be a dangerous place...

An adulteress? You mean an adulterer don't you?
An adulteress is a female...
-
Re: All the Generals' Traits and their effects listed.
Great list, nice work. Luckily for you I think the Agent ones are less diverse.
Are some titles the result of a combination of traits though? Because my King went from Tyrant or someother to 'The Watcher' and I couldn't pick out which trait gave him that. Now he's dead so I have no chance.

Great job, Maestro. Very thorough. ~:)

Perhaps he is talking of his generals getting retinue called adultress.

The "Adulterous" trait (well, retinue) is a by-product of the brothel/tavern line of buildings. No brothel, no temptation
-
Re: All the Generals' Traits and their effects listed.
It's only a couple of pages. I could probably scan and email to you.

Heh I mispelled it I see and that explains why all my generals have it, because everyone of my towns has one..:)
I wonder if parking a general out in forest in maybe a fort would strengthen him up against some of his bad vices.
Right now tho most of them serve as governors to keep peace or else my cities arent happy.
All my law and happiness items just cant reduce my 65% squalor and it drives me nuts.

I can't get any of my generals to go nuts. It would be cool to hear their speeches. Anybody know how to tip them over the edge? Slaughter a bunch of prisoners maybe... or I could just send them to Ireland. In MTW1 you could interbreed your family causing some strange side effects but I don't think you do that now.

Re: All the Generals' Traits and their effects listed.
I don't know how it happened but one of my guys is a rging drunk. He sounds like he's going to fall off his horse. He goes on some long rant about his wife... I don't even know what he's saying half the time, but he's fun to listen to.

Stop building the agriculture upgrades... They cause that squalor problem in the long run.

Re: All the Generals' Traits and their effects listed.
While looking over your list I spotted a trait with nothing listed in the bonuses section (Maybe a typo?). So I sorted the list and found a total of 3.
One is obviously a informational trait.
PHP Code:
MarriedAPrincess 1 Royal Ties No Bonuses
Perwsonnaly I would have thought it would give your general
a little more authority if nothing else. ;)
But the other 2, I cant explain, you might want to double check them.
SpyMaster 1 Espionage No Bonuses
Girls 3 Adulterer No Bonuses
Looking at the chart, they do fit the progression, But seriously..
Being an Adulterer has no effect at all? :p
Great List.

Agreed - I can't believe there are no bonuses to being an Adulterer... hardly realistic ;)
Seriously though, have people found any ways to expose Generals to conditions which encourage the development of any of the positive traits? Clearly one can minimise the chances of developing negative ones... although I keep forgetting to keep my Generals busy enough to avoid temptation.

So far the only bad trait I lost was drinking and thats when got married...Heh ball and chain..
I hate moving my generals too just for the sake of not getting bad traits, but I tend to forget alot and so they get their gambling, drinking, bad taxman, etc stuff.
-
Re: All the Generals' Traits and their effects listed.
The taxman trait seems somehow bugged. I suppose it could be that the normal fixed rate in castles somehow spoils the generals. I think that it would be best if the taxing traits would ignore time spent in castles.
-
Re: All the Generals' Traits and their effects listed.
Hey, no problem maestro.
You're welcome.

I'm pretty sure royal ties ups loyalty, only it doesn't say so on the trait. Adulterer reduces the chance for offspring (and piety too, I think)

Re: All the Generals' Traits and their effects listed.
Very amusing! But I wonder how the computer decides that "wife is horrid"? What kind of roleplaying is that?
Probably the characteristics are split into those that are relevant to behavior (generosity, battle-related, etc.) and the remainder which are periodically picked randomly.

Sisha bar isn't a problem though. I only ever build the inn line in cities where I'll never have generals, so I hardly ever get drink/adultry..
My muslim governors are smoking a lot though...but that's not a problem :)

Trait MarriedAPrincess
Characters family
Level Royal_Ties
Description Royal_Ties_desc
EffectsDescription Royal_Ties_effects_desc
Threshold 1
Effect Loyalty 3
The adulterer(girls lvl3) trait is a middle trait. The first levels give bonuses, the last levels give bad effects. the middle one is the balanced version, where it gives no bonuses or bad effects.
Spymaster gives a 10% discount on agents.
descr_character_traits.txt, my favourite text file :)

Re: All the Generals' Traits and their effects listed.
Nice job!! :2thumbsup:
One question though ..
Can I give some bad traits to my enemies generals?? I wish I could. The 10 stared Emperor of Byzantium is really making my life hard :wall:
-
Re: All the Generals' Traits and their effects listed.
Nice complete list.
The only thing that's puzzling, the "adored by pope" and "crusader" groups of traits are listed as adding command bonus to Muslims. That's intended to be Catholics, right?
-
Re: All the Generals' Traits and their effects listed.
I beleive that is a command bonus when your general is fighting against Muslims.
-
Re: All the Generals' Traits and their effects listed.
Yup, crusader gives a bonus to command when the enemy is muslim, like the goodattacker gives a bonus when attacking.
Holy soldier line of traits gives the opposite for muslims...
-
Re: All the Generals' Traits and their effects listed.
I don't think the list is complete.
My King is "the Cunning" but it is missing from your file.....
