Well there is the awesome NTW, general unit! They command forces, strong in combat, stuff like that.
Zweihanders,
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Sword and Buckler men,
and
Conquistadors (both mounted and not)
and
Jinetes
alright cool you guys now remember tell me the specific name of them and why you like them so much ok ...?
kool you guys!:2thumbsup:
Three way tie between Roman cavalry, Legionary cohort and Spartan Hoplites
Roman cavalry are cheap heavy cavalry and I can use them o great effect
Legionary cohort are cheap and cost as much as Early legionary cohorts and they have Roman discipline
Spartan Hoplites, does my avatar not say it all, if it does not check out my "location"
If not that, well then, I love the Idealism that the ancient Spartans stood for (before they attempted the oligarchy in Athens) it is a perfect example of what happens when a system of checks and balances are put in place and enforced so that a dictatorship is established and the country is run into the ground owing to the paranoid dictator. I would also like to state that their leaders were mentally strong and did not let the power get to them (except one, there is always a bad egg).
I have to say Pantodapoi Phalangitai of EB. Partially because they are cheap effective defencive infantry, partially because they are the first ever levy phalanx unit I have ever seen in a TW game that can actually can do anything and partially because they answer with a really amazing accent. I just can' resist repeating it wherever I go :laugh4:

Venetian Heavy infantry would probably be my favorite unit, at the moment. Still subject to change though, as I'm still on my very first campaign :beam:
:balloon2:
From RTW and EB, definently any of the Legionary cohort units, because they are the elite infantry units of the known world. Cretan Archers also come high on the list.
Remeber why, I would also like Aquerbisers, because there GUNS!
Actually Billmen from MTW, because they epitomise the English professionalism in the fielding of armies.
ok you guys kool get more people to come and tell me their fav units and why! COOL!:2thumbsup:
oh and by the way my favourites are them good old camels and the good little wardogs and elephents becaus they are very strong and the camels becaus they are one of my fav animals!:2thumbsup:
goota be pigs what can i say. Nothing is better the greasing a pig and then roasting it...
Swiss halberdiers in MTW1 - anti-cav and armour-piercing bonus, quite fast, good morale (unlike standard halbs), silly helmets. What more can you ask? :laugh4:
i also have to agree with the pigs their preety colol to!:2thumbsup:
Camels (MTW + VI) since they can beat any cavelry without any problems.
Always.
Spanish Jinnettes - They eat Almohad Urban Milita for breakfast! ~D With their armour-piercing javelins and excellent speed, they're well-equipped to take out heavy infantry while staying out of harm's way.
Gazi Infantry - Spurred on by their faith in Allah, these guys charge their enemies with suicidal courage! Great for flanking attacks and chewing up enemy infantry.
Huscarles - Heavily armed & armoured Vikings with very bad tempers! Virtually indestructible unless ganged up on by multiple units.
Bedouin Camel Warriors - Cheap, reliable, get a bonus in deserts, and horse units suffer a morale penalty when fighting them. Victory in my Egyptian campaigns would not be possible without them!
GO CAMELS:2thumbsup:
Varangian Guard (MTW until they get fixed in M2TW)-Barbarian Fury+Civilized Discipline= Ownage
Berserkers(All games)-Those crazy, crazy guys.
Pretty much all quality pikemen.
Vardariotai- A little WTF as far as history goes, but just too darn good to pass up.
Polish Nobles-They just shred and shred with their crazy javelins.
Eastern Infanty- Men in pink hoodies= humor
Dismounted Gothics.... reminds me of a couple scenes in Excalibur... :)
Druids! I just love their chanting.
The Priests in BI were fun too Anything that makes an noise really
Aventuros, because they go poke-poke-poke and everything dies. :beam:
Elephants, I am suprised no one has said this yet, chargeing through anything. BOOM! Squah this gut, CRASH! They fall over! Its awesome effects, just them crashing through seas of man.
yes if you read one of my messages i said i like elephants to:2thumbsup:
I never added my favorite MTW/M2TW unit i think im going with polish nobels cause they are devistating to almost anything on the field.
It has to be the Sherwood Archers, but just because they have feathers in their hats. Oh yeah and on a other note, they can also shoot some heavy damage arrows.
Awesome guys keep on telling me your fav units or get your friends to!:2thumbsup:
In EB and RTR (both mods for RTW): Anything that has pikes, and missile cavalry.
In MTW: probably Berber Camels and Mounted Sergeants.
In Chivalry Total War is probal Noble Knights, they look awesome in all that armour, plus they kick all! Lances, swords, with arrows flying past, uh....:pleased: :wings:
Dvor: Heavy Calvary with a bow? What more could you want?
Monster Ribualt: So many barrels!
Cossack Musketeers: Class unit! Musket and melee attack to boot!
Retinue Longbowmen: Love the longbow
Camel Gunners: Gunpowder, on a camel!
Boyar Sons: Javelin throwers able to finish off their opponents.
Jinetes: faster moving Boyar Sons with more ammo instead of armour
Cossack Calvary: Steppe Archers who are relatively inexpensive and much better than Kazaks.
Cataphract Archers in RTW
Cataphracts in RTW
Almogavars in MTW

Longbowmen - longbows...nuff said
Almughavars - interesting and rare unit
Italian Infantry - now thats a bunch of tough spicy meatballs...
I'll remember the rest...
In RTW, i love Egypt... Since the release of the patches they are not as strong...BUT, they are still a great faction to use and hard to deal with if used correctly.
In RTW, if you love archers, use Cretan Archers.
Urban Cohort
Praetorian Cavalry
Barbarian Noble Cavalry
Rhodian Slingers
And...
War elephants
I love units that can make it through a whole game without many losses so...
MTW - Longbowmen (Welsh, of course)
RTW - Wardogs, release the hounds!
In vanilla RTW, I always liked the following combo:
Archers, Dogs, and a Pike block.
Pike block goes up to the bridge entrance and waits. As the enemy begins to cross, release the hounds through the pikes. The hounds won't kill many, but who cares? The totally clog up the bridge giving your archers scads of time to thin out the attackers -- who are met with pikes when they finally get done chopping doggies.
:beam:
Overall, for the vanilla units, I just loved Illyrians. Denarius for denarius, there were no better troops in the field.
MTW/VI
1) Futuwwa
2) Janissary Infantry
3) Ottoman Infantry
4) Saracen Infantry
5) Turcoman Horse
6) Armenian Heavy Cavalry
7) Ghazi Infantry
8) Bedouin Camel® Warriors

Wow, Caravel, I had no idea you were so fond of the Muslim units. I suddenly understand why they're receiving extra attention in your new mod, though. ~:)
Definitely my biggest laugh of the week! Thanks, buddy. :laugh4: :laugh4: :laugh4:Quote:

The TOP 10 LIST of fav units in MTW/VI:
10. Celtic Warriors - never question a horde of smelly, half-naked Celts.
9. Spanish Jinettes - but only when I play them, these are the most hated unit when the bad guys have them.
8. Swabian Swordsmen - the mostly unknown German version of Huscarles.
7. Steppe Hvy Cavalry - Hvy Cav with bows ... yummy.
6. Billmen - AKA mobile can-openers
5. Jannisary Hvy Inf - AKA Turkish can-openers
4. Jannisary Infantry - along with 5 the only 2 units the Turks will ever need.
3. Longbowmen - nuff said.
2. Camels - because I'm to scared of Mithrandir to leave them out. ~;)
... and finally Sensei's most favorite unit in MTW/VI:
1. Urban Militia - but only when led by Tancred de Normandie, and especially after I have taken over a provence with Iron and have made a Master Weaponsmith and sometimes a Master Armourer. Sometimes he's the only unit I really need.
I rarely play anything but Muslim factions or the Byzantine, with the occasional Novgorod or Hungarian campaign. Of the catholic units I would have to go with:Quote:

For the orthodox it's simple:
1) Trebizond Archers
2) Pr0n Cavalry
Macedon's Kestrophone that I think are only in RTR.
I like British light chariots and head hurlers. I like the Britons too. I like to bash peoples skulls in with them, that is why my name is what it is.
Ah my favorite unit.
Boyar from MTW 1. They guys were good heavy cav and had the common sense to let the enemy eat arrows before engaging.
Next probably my Steepe Cav. Nothing beats the knights of Rohan attack!
And last would be my Bulgarian Brigands. I like them. They're better than Trebizond and don't ask for much money. Cause they're all Bulgarian serial killers?
Oh from Shogun.. No-Dachi swordsmen. None can beat the Shimazu Kamikazies!
I don't have MTW 2 yet and I've never played RTW.
Haven't played any of the other factions yet, but I'd have to say that right now my fav TW units are the Billmen from M2:TW. I just love how everyone seems to hate them, and how I none the less manage to use them so effectively.
:laugh4: :laugh4: :laugh4:Quote:

MTW: Billmen, Longbowmen, Kataphraktoi, Gothic Knights.
RTW: Legions, Cataphracts (again), Armoured Hoplites, Berserkers.
M2TW: I'm not sure yet, but I do like Byzantine Infantry.
Probably the most overpriced unit in the game.Quote:

sincerly ... warking ...................................:2thumbsup:
Love the Urban cohort, but they didnt exist.
Portuguese Arques because they have a pretty good ranged attack and are fair in combat compared to other ranged units.
Bagn! (It's supposed to be spelled that way) :D
in VI, Swiss Armoued Pikemen and Anything Swiss :) :)
They did exist, actually. Just not during RTW's timeframe (neither did the Praetorians), and they never numerous.Quote:

M2:TW

They're the same training cost as Feudal Knights though they are more expensive to support. Statisticaly Feudal Knights have 2 points more charge and 1 point less armour. Overall Feudal Knights are better, though as the Byzantines they're about the best shock Cavalry you can get hold of, they also get the valour bonus in Nicaea. Once teched up and with morale upgrades from religious buildings they are quite a potent force, though a somewhat overpriced one. Kataphraktoi are quite simply just too slow. I've never found much of a use for them.Quote:

Happy New Year. :balloon2:
-Murfios
Happy New year! And if you read my sig you'll know what my fav unit is:-)
For RTW:BI
1: Ciblinari + Kathaprankoi
- Quite expensive but turns the fortunes of war for me.
2: Sarmatian Virgin Cavarly + Bosboran Heavy Infantry.
- Cheap, effective & sexy.
for RTW-
Cretan Archers, Numidian Cavalry, Armoured Hoplites, Praetorian Cavalry, Onagers, Phaerohs Bowmen (oops spelling hehe). Obviously not all in the same army though ;)
Doh! I have Medival Total War 2 now but seem to have forgotten to name my favorite units!
Tsar's Guard.
Dvor Cavalry.
Cossack Cavalry.
Cossack Muskets.
Longbowmen of all sorts.
Anything on a horse that shoots bows!
Knights of Santiago, don't they play in Division 2?
All the longbow and unique polearm* units from MTW.
*Billmen, Swiss Halberdiers, Janissary Heavy Infantry, Voynuk Bladesmen.
Alright you guys good work~;) and i hope more ppl come and tell me theirs!
sincerly...........................warking.............................:2thumbsup:
In XGM for RTW: ATG's Spartans are my favorites.
Followed by Athenian Marines and The Corinthian Sacred Band.
I vote Hastati, simply because they are THE most effective unit ( in my opinion, of course ), in the early game as the Romans, specifically for me, the Julii, the Hastati dominate most other light Infantries, and the javelins ( pila ) they throw make them even more effective! :beam:
my favorite units from MTW2 would have to be dismounted gothic knights and dismounted feudal knights.
For the greeks i really like the armoured hoplites ~:thumb:
for the romans i like the onagers ~:thumb:
and i really like any kinda archers ~:thumb:
Quintus
From Rome and BI: legionnaires (silver shield or standard), and Sagitarii (this guys allow me to take on hordes on the open field :2thumbsup: )
From Medieval 2: Sword and bucler men, they are not only cheap, but they are also light infantry so they dont tire as easy as heavy infantry, plus their stats are pretty close to the knights
Only have MTW, but my faves from that (in no particular order) are:
Huscarles (2 legged tanks, ready to hack through pretty much anything in early)
Turcopoles (Okay - so I have only really played as Cath factions - ho doubt I would soon grow to love some of the muslim and ortho horse archer units as well!)
Steppe Cavalry (just love having such a speedy unit to zap around the flanks or ride down routers)
Fyrdmen (great to have in early)
Horse archers of all types. perfect to send in as the first wave of an attack to sften up the enemy, break their formation and then withdraw quickly to be replaced with melee units to finish of whatever's left.
Spartan Hoplites all the way cos of their elite strength and they are more versatile than most pikemen. Plus spartans are trained to be warriors from their first breath as spartans had slaves that cultivated agriculture
BTW quintus too much usage of the same smilie in the same post can be really frustarating and is againsth the posting ettiquette ( not too much smiley usage)Quote:

Medieval&VI: Havn't played much of it but so far i've taken to the viking Huscarls.
Rome&BI: Most definaetly the berserkirgang. They remind me of family... ~
STW:
-Yari Samurai: easily one of the most underrated TW units ever, but at the same time one of the most useful (i've often thought to mod them in MTW). If supported by missiles and cavalry, and properly upgraded, it might take even monks or no-dachis for a one-way trip to the gates of hell.
-Warrior Monks: need-i explain further? Unleash them at the right time and place and be ready with your yari cavalry to collect a few hundred He-eads!
True zen moments.
MTW:
-Any medium/heavy cavalry: let's face it: all those sword and axe units are nice, but they count to the glipitiglopos to protect them and to charge the enemy rear; few times they accomplish anything alone - if ever. Try playing without the "long knives" and let me know how you find it.:indian_chief:
In RTW, Levy Pikemen, cheap, expendable, still fairly effective.
All horse archers.
In EB I like the Thorakitai Argyraspidai. They are high costing yet they are mighty effective troops due to their strong ability to throw javelins and to act as elite spearmen when they have to go into hand-to-hand combat.
In R:TW I liked the Roman Legionary Cohorts. They were the middle range of the Roman unit roster, not being to expensive yet still being extremely powerful and versatile with their missile weapon and their hand-to-hand sword attack. Even better they were very well armoured, able to beat off most attacks with their huge shield and robust Lorica Segmenta.
I don't really have a favourite unit in Barbarian Invasion or in M:TW. I haven't really played enough of them to have time to decide. Although in M:TW I am starting to have a thing for Byzantine Infantry!
