Well I love the mod, but I am very dissapointed I cannot build first cohors. Is there any minimod for EB that allows them to be produced? Are they going to be included in future versions of EB? Can I add them manually, if yes how plz?

Just curious, what is the rationale behind their inclusion? Aren't they merely experienced normal troops? How are the represented in recruitment?
The first cohort carries the Aquila (Eagle) of the Legion, losing an Eagle is a big deal and it was also a rallying point for troops. So we are going to give you Eagles and let you lose them, then suffer the consiquences.Quote:

As a side note, weren't First Cohorts only double strength by Caesar's day? If I recall correctly there isn't any evidence of the size increase until Caesar's commentaries. Do correct me if I am wrong.
I believe it was only on the Early Empire's that 1st cohorts assumed their double-strength figures ?
And how is this going to be implemented for the camillian or polybian army ? whhic unit is going to carry the eagle, triarii? ;)
I think implementing it for the Camillan/Polybian forces as well would be somewhat unfair for other factions, those filthy Romans already have enough units :beam:Quote:

I would use them for every legion I'll use. And I hope theres gonna be penalties for losing the unit, just adds realism.
I just hope the romans keep at least one and not two or three 1st cohorts, or then the fighting would be very difficult for a barbarian faction.
Prior to the Marian reforms the Legions did not carry the Aquila as a standard. While the Eagle was already a military symbol it was not until Marius that it become the Legionary Standard across the board, and it was not until the time of Augustus that the First Cohort became a double strength unit.Quote:

Well since we use the attribute that gives the eagle to celtic champion units in EB, it would probably be best (if possible) to ditch the floating eagle and give them a standard with one (if possible).

It requires additional model space. We'd need to model a signifier carrying an Aquila and I'm not even sure the same faction can have two different standard bearers.
Well, I don´t remember how it is a first cohor in vanilla, I have never gone so far in vanilla but in RTR the unit had a bigger size and a man had a poligonal golden aquila. Very cool indeed.
Numbers of officers/standard bearers for factions is only limited by model space. Prometheus made an aquilifer for Res Gestae for example:

If model space in M:TW2 is significantly increased maybe we can have one in EB2.

The eagle is transferred to the nearest enemy settlement were the roman general can try to recapture it to at least partially restore his reputation. Also this settlement will be a prefered target by the roman AI.
Waiting anxious your minimod for 0.81. A pity it can not be used the prometheus aquila for unit number restrictions. That model is what I am using in RTR. That is the reason I saw the golden poligon aquila, I haven´t seen the vanilla one.

What would be really nice to go along this feature would be something like the minimod porposed sometime ago to set the starting date at 107 BC, the historical date for the Marian Reforms. Even with this new dynamic triggers for the Marian Reforms I would have dificulties in maintining the interest in a campaign past 200BC...

Well I'm pretty new to EB. So that's fine with me. I just don't want to get to far into my first campaign if this patch is coming out soon. I can feel your pain if you've been playing for a while. What some people have called for is a late period provincial campaign. But it's kinda hard to ask for that when they haven't finished the version we have....

I want to make a XIII legion too! I don't know if you keep up with that HBO show Rome but they basically follow around two centurions from the XIII legion. They actually lifted their names from Ceasar's chronicals of Gaul ( Pullo and Varenus). These two guys are actually singled out in Ceasar's writing for heroism.
I wish they got more in detail with regards to Ceasar and his relationships with his legions during the civil war on the show. There is this classic passage in Caesar by Adrian Goldsworthy ( a great read) when Ceasar is absolutely lambasting the XIII'th. It's right before his invasion of Africa to finish off the survivers of Pharsalis. Apparently the XIII was refusing to go because he had promised them back pay and hadn't delivered. He called their bluff, decimated it's leaders ( funny thing to do to your most dependable legion) and told them all to go home. At which point the legion was shamed and begged him to change his mind.
So Ceasar says he'll think about it and takes off to Africa with two less experienced legions and gets into all kinds of trouble. He sends for reinforcements and the XIII'th come to the rescue in the nick of time! The loveable, hot headed, kick ass XIII'th!

Yea, I realize they just lifted the names but it was a nice touch. That actor that plays Pullo is great....Amazing that he lends a little humanity to such a brute! That gladiator scene was just insane....When he wouldn't fight until they insulted the XIII'th...Hilarious! Great show but I wish they showed military matters in more detail.. I suppose it would be just too expensive. Like shooting gladiator every week on a cable budget!
I am longing for .81 and the minimod so much I can not wait more. Nice work guys that is the best mod of all times. Now let´s work :whip: :beam:
