I recently turned 19 (January 9). This means I am eligable for conscription in Greece.
But, I am planning on volunteering.
As of now, I am stuck to either be in the Infantry or the Armoured.
So what do you think i should be in?

Im going for armoured just to defy Caius.
And cause tanks kick butt.
But seriously, be a paratrooper.
Armoured because Greece has Leopard 2s.
Are you conscripted, or is it compulsory military service?

If you are going to join you might as well join a branch where you can scam a few bucks .
I would opt for infantry. OK, you have to do a lot of walking, but at least you don't get stuck in a tin can with six (?) other sweating and stinking people in 35C heat.
I didnt know there was conscription in Greece. I have a (30 year old) Greek friend and he never got conscripted...
I personally would go for the infantry. The training is much funner; creeping through densely wooded forests plastered in cam cream with a rifle loaded full of blanks, a smoke grenade in your belt, while watching a helicopter fly overhead and the tanks roll by in the distance. Lovely!

Oh and if not, your friend is more than likely a draft evader. Which is seen as cowardice in Greece.
How long do you have to join the army for? Is it a bit like British national service?
Armoured or armoured infantry.
Both cases, you get to ride into battle - and it's just a case of whether you want to fight mounted or as a dismount.
Being a footslogger lugging bergen, rifle, and various other bits of kit around is no fun.
Personally, it's all about the cavalry...
I would chose infantry.
I've done the infantry game and while fun and all mounted warfare is where the action is at. While paratroops are definately elites just remember that the plane only takes them one way, the rest of the time they're walking.
I myself will go armor when I commision as an officer and I'll want to wargame you. Besides Greece just bought all those nice Leopard 2A6 tanks didn't they? Supposedly the best tank in the world apart from those using DU armor.
Also think of how well equiped Greek infantry are, I don't know much about the Greek military but make sure that you guys are at least using good rifles and armor. While the terrain of the Balkans and Asia Minor are suited for infantry operations mechanized infantry would probably be the best and less likely to be used as cannon fodder.

PoC, when you sign the contract to sign up make sure you read it comprehensively so you don't get ripped off pay or benefit wise.
Indeed - make sure you read the whole damn thing to. It might make the recruiter mad, but it will prevent them from sneaking something into the enlistment contract.Quote:

Infantry. And go out for the airborne.
Infantry will teach you more useful things you can use later in life. Walking and running and carrying heavy things = the right way to live! You will also learn to fall in and hang as a group, moreso than with even the armor.
Personally, I would prefer not to be trapped in a box, even if it is a bullet-proof one. The only reasons I can see for going armored would be if you have a particular love of machinery or complicated hardware. Otherwise, it's infantry all the way.
