Favorite Rome: Total War Faction?

Hello. what is your favorite Rome: Total War Faction? Mine in Vanilla Rome: Total War are the Roman Julii family. In some mods, I like to play as the Illyrians.

mine n imperial campaign is House of Brutii but in alll factions campaign mine is macedon

Good idea to start a thread on this topic Lucius Julius, but don't we already have one on this subject?

I tried to look for another one like this, but I didn't see one. Besides, reviving old threads is generally against most Forum's rules, I thought it would apply for this Forum as well. I'm sorry if I broke a rule, I just wanted to have a good chat about the Rome: Total War factions.

im posting in all of the poll threads. i dont care if they are repeats, i just want my post count to raise higher. anyway, i say Brutii b/c taking over greece brings in lots of money and taking the phalanxes early in better than later when they are stronger. and you have many options of attack from there including dacia, macedon, and thrace to the north; and pontus, armenia(sorry barbarossa), and seleucid. If you go south you can get Egypt as well.
Most importantly, you can backstab the other romans the easiest this way. You can hit all 3 at once and have 2 towns on italy to begin with. Julli are usually in gaul and spain, and scipii are concentrated in northern africa and sicily. With the huge early income you get along with good defensive towns, getting to post marius troops is fast and easy.

but wait a minute, the 'old' thread couldn't have been very old because i voted on this earlier today and it was a multi page thread. eeeek!

I picked the Roman Sicipii faction, because of interest in the Punic wars, and a general liking for Sicily and southern Italy.

I like all Roman factions, but I voted Scipii because their uniform looks good.

A long time since I played Vanilla RTW, but I went with Julii.

As of right now it's too much damn fun slaughtering everything the Julii can throw at me with the berserkirgang. Where did they get the idea for the 'spear warband' though? Barbarians, particularily the Germanic tribes, would never have that kind of discipline to fight in a phalanx.

I am sure that they could form a sort of basic "mock" phalanx, although there was no real discipline and there would have been a high chance that the unit would just break from it's formation and charge the enemy that way.

My favourite is Carthage. I just love them.
I think that Hannibal was the best general that ever exist.

I Like the House of Brutii for campaign (vanilla) but when i modded it and had all the factions its Greek Cities for me~:thumb:

Numidia is a good and fun faction to play as. I voted for them.

What? I said that the mods could lock this thread, but I guess they didn't...

I go for Carthage. There's nothing like peeling of Scipii scum from under my elephants' feet after a batle!

I also choosed Carthage, I love building elephants (Can build Armoured to!) And poeni infantry. I took spain, whole gaul, italy, greece, western coast of africa and Alexandrie and Cairo ;) But can u realy change to play the senate?!

I chose The Greek Cities because of Armored Hoplites, among other things. They havent failed me yet against any enemy, even against enemies with longer spears. They also have all the best aspects of the "civilized" factions, like paved roads, academies, sanitation, and have easy access to a bunch of useful wonders.

Scipii!!

I must say that I used to get plenty of pleasure from playing the Scipii. They had tremendous depth to them, like all of the Roman factions did, and they were a good, enjoyable and moderate challenge, not mind-bogglingly hard like the Brutii, and not somewhat easy like the Julii. It also helped that they got to conquer the mighty Carthage which is something I have always wanted to re-enact since I visited the (Roman) ruins of that remarkable city.

voted seleucid, but also Carthage. seleucid has such a variety and Carthage has such awesome cavalry. Plus it's always fun to conquer rome as Carthage:whip:

I think armenia is the best because of all there cataphracts

I chose Egypt :egypt: for the simple reason thats its the only faction to give me the pleasure of conquering Rome and Winning the game.
Loved playing Britannia but a virus killed it :furious3: so I shall return.....

Pontus. They were the last faction I tried.....wished I'd played them sooner:yes:

I always hated chasing those damn spear-chucking Pontic HC around so I decided to give them a whirl myself.

Man do those things run circles around the infantry-heavy Romans:juggle2:

Combined with Cataphracts, Elephant mercs, "Creshan Arshers", and Scythed Chariots, Rome didn't stand a ghost of a chance. Crappy infantry at the start, but once you get pikemen, the traditional "Hammer and Anvil" technique is irresistable.

Next to the Selucids, the most balanced faction, IMHO.

I voted for Julii. This is the first R:TW Fave faction poll that the Seleucid don't even come near to majority.

What's enjoyable in a game like this is that you can play several factions!

I dont have a favorite.

In vanilla,the Seleucid Empire (which I voted on the pole above) due to their roster,difficulty,and general positioning right in the middle of a political hornet's nest.
In XGM,the Greek City-States due to that Spartan Royal Bodyguard. Talk about a meat grinder.
In EB,Koinon Hellenon (aka Greek City-States). I like their Spartiatai Hoplitai and Iphikratous Hoplitai.

I chose parthia because I like horse archers and it's the only thing in RTW thats a good challenge. I find with most factions within the first 20 turns you rule over 20 or so provinces with parthia even if you try you could lose the Egyptians :egypt: it isn't one of those easy Roman or Greek Campains!!!!

Yeah,I noticed that.

After playing three short campaigns with the Egyptians, the Macedons and the Julii, I found that Macedon was my favorite faction. It has some nice beginning cities, good units and not a lot of wars in the beginning, so you can at least get your economy up and running. The only downside is the plague, but that can be used to your advantage ~:smoking:. Apparently the Thracians have a grudge against my spies at the moment, now why would that be :laugh4:.

Weirdly I find that my favourite faction is Macedonia but I rarely play as them. Also I quite like The Seleucid Empire but the reason as to why I do nt play as them often could be their wealth and excellent units. Makes life easier than most factions. What is the attraction to these threads? It seems like there is one in every sub-forum.

Personally i prefurred the Brutii, this is in Vanilla, i never modded Rome.

I could work the units in Brutii better than any other factions, but the greeks were annoying as they came at me with never ending armies
