@the anthem - it's ****. Probably teh worst in the world imo - there's no real meaning in it whatsoever.

There was a mention in the paper about Vandstone writing a replacement in her spare time - if you can did up the lyrics of that im' sure it woudl be worth a laugh :)

They are awsome. People complain to the ABC about them making fun of the Tax Avoidance done by Kerry Packer, then they call the PM, John Howard, a pedophile, and no one complains.....:laugh4:

They did a brilliant stunt some years back in their magazine.

On the front cover were the words:

"John Howard doesn't listen to the Australian people...so call him at home on [number]"

It was his real phone number :laugh4:

I have no problem with our current national anthem, but that is because I don't see it as all that important. Who needs it? That said, if it changed, I want absolutely no reference to Vegemite, stereotypes, or Britain.

America has queens from a lot of countries, particularly in San Francisco, but only a few have anthems they sing and none are appropriate for Australian sporting occasions.

The Politicians are very bad in Aus.

In Federal Parliment, we Have to keep the Coalition in (Liberal, National Parties) because Labor is incompetant.

In Queensland, we have to keep Labor in because the Lib's and National's cant agree...even after at least 7 years of losing.

Bah!

The Royals come down every so often, costing around 3-4 million per visit...

1. Britain and England are two very seperate things, they are not interchangable, thats an American mistake.

2. She's no more our Queen that yours, she's German, 100% continental, 0% British, or near enough. We have her because:

A: It makes the Americans jealous.

B: Republics suck pretty badly, look at France or America.

C: Presidents are expensive, the Queen is cheap by comparison.

The only reason the vote failed was that it was worded (i'll get on to that * howard later :laugh4: ) so that it was so restrictive that it couldnt' but fail (simply, we voted on whether aus. should become a republic following x rules, not whether we should become a republic full stop). Far more than half the country want a republic as it stands today.

Again, not English for 941 years. This would also be a break with Britain in general. Do you really hate us that much? Because this is ultimately what it comes down to. I dunno. The Star Spangled Banner (or whatever it is) is pretty boring. It's like, they just choose a random singer and he/she then howls like Celine Dion. Celine Dion from a drinking song; that's rather dysfunctional.

I'm sure no one would mind if Australia just adopted our Monarch's Anthem, it's not really specific to these shores. You just need to change the Scots to Kiwi's and you're done.

1. There are four stars on our flag (as compared to Aussie's 6)
