1. Install a fresh copy of RTW and BI, patch it to 1.6.
2. Install EB
3. EB with BI:
- Make a shortcut with a targetline:
"your install folder\RomeTW-BI.exe" -mod:eb -nm -show_err
- make a copy of
your install folder\eb\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaiagn
and rename that copy to barbarian_invasion (you should now have two folders in that location)
-delete
your install folder\eb\data\world\maps\base\map.rwm and from Bi\data\world\maps\base
4.Unzip the file
5. Copy from RoA EB folder and copy into your Rome directory, overwrite all files.
6.Delete map.rwm from RTW\Data\world\maps\base and from BI\Data\world\maps\base and from EB\Data\maps\base
8. Play from Provincial Campaign or EB Campaign or CB

Congratulations for your new release. It is a good submod for the EB.
My question for you would be if you fixed the rebel CTD problem, when using BI.exe. I played your 3.0 mod but once in a while, when there was a rebellion in AI faction, during AI turn, there followed a nasty CTD. When using RTW.exe the CTD almost disapaired.

Oh, looks very nice. 've been looking forward to that for a long time :laugh4:
Edit: Omg, what did you do? I just installed your mod and found out that every unit has 2 hitpoints and an incredible defence! That's madness! An average battle in EB already lasts long enough. But I like the new units, especially because they have existed and add a lot of realism to the game.

Started a Seleucid Campaign now and saw that the Seleucids now have 6 Heavy Assault units to guard the flanks. It's really sad that you can only have 20 units in one army, because so we can never use them all.
Thorlof, do you know how an standard Seleucid Army was built? Perhaps can include all of these units in my army this way, by using historical armys.

Thanks for the info on the historical army, but I meant something like Thoraktai, but I think this is beyond natural knowledge. I'll better see if I can lay hands on "The Seleucid Army" by Bar-Kochva.

Good lord. Thorlof, I want to say I liked your mini-mod, and appreciate your hard work. I love the units, but what really put me off was the prolonged battle time, the 2hp for EVERY unit, the exagerated amount of mnai necessary to recruit cavalry, and the 0 turn recruit time. I mean, come on, the enemy will swarm those pesky levies every turn! In my Romani campaign I can build a super army in one season! I really don't like this one, but keep going and thank you.

MindLich- Yes this is real in history-Hannibal or Pyrrus destroy one roman army SPQR build another , but if you play hellenistic state uuu this is hard. 1-8 turn recruit time and very high cost of units.

hmm..im having problems now...whenever I get into a campaign (loading or new game), there is no fog of war on the map like I did that toggle_fow console command cheat and I see everything like cities and what's built in them. And whenever I exit the campaign I keep getting CTDs. Are these suppose to happen?

In me game fog of war is happen. I dont now why in your game this not fog of war. In exit, yes ctd but i dont now why :wall: i working for this but simple I dont now :oops:

2 tings I noticed: Sab'yns can recruit the new Arabian units only through native MIC. Kinda strange.
Seleucids can't build Indian elephants nor use them in custom battle.
I like the prices of the hellenistic cavalry, but the infantry prices, especially those of the elites are much too high. Roman legionarys cost less than legionaroi and are better. Don't know, but I also think the roman version needs a lower level of MIC.
@Mindlich: I have played some custom battles now to test this mod and I have come to the conclusion that it is not exaggerated. I had a battle against an full Ptolemaic stack and it didn't last much more than half an hour. Those Hellenikoi Kataphraktoi rock now :2thumbsup:

Basileus Seleukeia this is first version .Sab'yans mayby i change this "tings". but Roman legionars is the best killing machin, seleucyd,egypt and Pont legionaroi is only a copy(hm not legal ???)
Mindlich this is not exaggerated, defend always better that attack but if you play in my mod you understand what happen if Ai attack with flank.

In order to add Indian elephants to seleucids I opened the EDU and saw that everything was alright... They Seleucids (romans_julii) were in the list of nations which can recruit them. Seleucids can build them also in the EDB. But for some strange reason they are not available in-game...
Oh, and please xcuse me for being a bit harsh because of your English. I just read the sentence in your first post that said you're not so fluent in English. But I didn't realy realize it in that post, except for the legionaroi-line.
Edit: Moved the word "romans_julii" back and forth with space and restarted the campaign and cheated my wy until I conquered Baktria: It now works, I can recruit them.

Well, maybe the 2hp and defense is not exaggerated. But the 0 round build time and the soo high upkeep for cavalry really prevent me from enjoying the game.

Now I'm totally confused. Do I have to build a special building with 200 Turns buidl time in order to recruit legionaroi? I thought they are just tied to RTW Vanilla Marian reforms.
And, by the way: What is your evidence that says the copy legionarys didn't use pilum-like throwing spears? I'm just curios, because I can't really imagine someone copys those guys and just "forgets" the legendary pilum...
@Mindlich: The 0-turn recruitment-thing can easily be fixed, as Gaias wrote in the old TBS Thread:
Why would changing this yourself be hard? All you have to do is open the EDU up in notepad and use the replace command. Just copy the line "stat_cost 0" (include the spaces)and put it in the 'Find what:' box and put the text "stat_cost 1" in the 'Replace with:' box and press the 'Replace all' button. This should revert all units with the zero recruit time bact to the one turn (you have to use "quote" on my text, otherwise you wont see the many spaces that have to be inbeetween stat_cost and the number)

What is realism if one writing- use pilum another dont use. in picture dont have pilum , only sword or spear. But this "romanized army reform" is only theory, some(chief EB - Urnamma) against for this theory.

The EB paradigm is that the "copy legionaires" were actually homegrown assault infantry types which the Romans, in due egocentric form, duly took to be copies of their so very excellent pattern (nevermind now that *they* had originally copied it from someone too...) right ? Certainly the only ones known for certain to be "copies" are the Numidian ones, which were originally trained by allied Roman officers, and those are a tad off the EB timeframe aren't they...?

Sorry Thorlof, but could you please confirm me that your post is supposed to say that:
Only Numidians, Pontics and Dacia (later) had units trained by Romans. Some of these Romans were deserters.
But those "units with Roman influence" use Roman tactics but not exactly the same equipment as the Roman legionarys.
But what has this to do with those "Legionaroi" being mis-interpreted Thorakitai and therefore being historical inaccurate? I'm confused again :dizzy2:

Thorakitai is only one type this units -another look to stelle from sidon or figures from this times or...look Montvert. This legionaroi is only one type romanized units.

Ah, now I understand. there is some evidence for roman-influenced units, and it is debeatable whether the Thorakitai are these or if they are just one type of them. So I can continue playing with the feeling of an historical accurate campaign:sweatdrop: :2thumbsup:

Say, I've been looking through the formation files and and started wondering about one thing, namely the unit_type parameters "light_pilum_infantry" and "heavy_pilum_infantry". Any idea what exactly counts as those ? Infantry with precursors, infantry with pilums for their ranged attack, or infantry identified as "light" or "heavy" "pilum" infantry by the relevant EDU lines (which none currently are)?

I know whats causing the toggle_fow thing now, it was the other minimods. I had to do a clean install.
So the CTD When exiting is one of the problems right? I hope it will get fixed in a next release.

this is simple in edit -change all. In RoA (and TBS) some barbarian units with warcry attributes use pseudo shield wall in defence.
MButcher- cavalry cost is high only in hellenistic states and some cartaginian units.
Xhin_Akuma- only 1 ctd- in quit from campaign. I testing now 189 bc and dont have another ctd.

Thorloff, I asked you about CTD in case of a rebel city. I read you have the fix. But after only 4 turns I let Rhegion rebel and the consequence was a CTD. Therefore I still believe that playing with BI, especially your mod can be very tedious and frustrating. I hate CTD when cities rebel. This is a fact that the player cannot control all the time and it can lead to a turn that you just can not pass over. and then endgame.

I meant having the same number of trrops as vannila one ie Legionares with eagle has 260 men...etc.or change the scale to 1:4 or 1:6 I have no idea if thats posible or what

:help: I can't download this, when I tried it would get to anything from 3% to 30%, then stop downloading. When I clicked off the downloader and onto it again, it would no longer say % complete, but "file download". I tried several times and the registered for file front incase that would make any difference, but now I can't even get onto the file info screen from the link, as the page dosen't load. I have tried saving the target of the link and then oppening the page from the desktopbut that dosen't work either. I have also tried logging out of fileshack but that doesen't seem to help either. Any help would be appricated.

I'm interested in using only the Sinuhet/Darth formations aspect of your mod with the 81a build. I wasn't exactly clear on what you wrote as far as editing the formation files if one is only going to use the formations aspect of your mod. Is this what you mean? In the text file this line needs to be changed for all....

I had my first CTD with this mod. I was playing as Lusitanians. It seems to be the Hayasdan-turn CTD, but i can't bypass it by trying it several times. Sadly have to quit that campaign. I started to like it...

No :no: only change loose, close to close,loose or close but this is only for eb with bi (schield_wall , schiltrom) only in descr_formations_ai
descr_formations is clear darth i dont have change this file.
Hayasadan ctd this is big problem in eb .Mayby next relase or new fix change this bug.

I'm playing a Hayasdan campaign at the moment I saw that I can't build Armenian Noble Cataphracts, in no region at all. That's strange because in the EDU and EDB everything seems right.

Well can I request for a larger (bit) than vannila amount of figures(men) on the battlefield eg 260-300 men each???. I just love the new formation + phalanxes omg the best +all the new units.

240 is a hardcoded maximum. I find the 1:6 scale provides the best balance of large units, with a consistent scaling.

It's the same with the armoured horse archers. they are only available in Armavir (the starting city). But I can't imagine how this can happen, in the EDB and EDU everything is right.... or does it just seem to be right?:idea2:

I know that with the vanilla EB EDB the Hai catas aren't recruitable in Armavir. I fixed the matter by adapting the recruitement line of the royal guard infantry (who are recruitable in exactly two locales from the top-level faction MIC, one of these being just Armavir), but I don't know if Thorlof's done something similar.
The cata archers worked properly IIRC though.

Yes, these units. I just found out that in Ani-Kamah, I can also build Armoured Horse Archers, but still no Cataphracts.

In my experience you'll need the two bolded and italicized lines to be able to recruit the Aspets in Armavir at least (I'm guessing the other settlement is Ani-Kamah).

As far as I can see, it doesn't. Just use Redmeth's ore The_Errant's, they're far better than the standard EB-MoneyforendlessAIhordes-Script.

Question for Thorloff...
I've been looking thru the formations_ai.txt files for both your TBS.31 version and now your current RoA version of this file. The current RoA version is pretty much completely altered from your .31 version. Rather, i should say, certain values were completely changed. To be more specific i'll use 2 of the most changed lines.
default_melee_state
block_relative_pos
These 2 values you've changed significantly from your .31 version to your current RoA version of the _ai.txt file. I'm assuming you've tested these changes along with the others you made in this file as it relates to AI behavior on the battlefield. Would you be kind enough to share your findings??
I'm very interested in attempting to improve AI battlefield behavior in my version of EB and i'm using your .31 version as a base for experimenting and testing. Unfortunately, my recreational time is somewhat limited so i don't get to test as often as i'd like. So any insights on your findings as it relates to the changes you've made would be appreciated.

But I working with Sinuhet 2 orders in default_melee_state (3 sometime dont work) and myself testing others commend. Ai in battlefield this is not only formation ai but very importance is stat_fire_delay in EDU.

I know that its hardcoded to 240...atm the riegn of ares unit figures are (the highest atm are the gallic units up to 202)..Im just requesting if you thorlof can put it to 240 please.....

No problem Thorloff...I wasn't really looking for an explanation as for what the default_melee_state & block_relative_position lines do anyway. I've read both DV guides inside and out several times so i'm pretty clear as to what does what according to DV. I was more interested in what you found in your tests as a result of changing those values significantly from one version to the next in your ai formation file in your mod. I was just hoping to save time is all...No biggie...I'll just test the differences myself and compare those differences to what the original Sinuhet code in his 7.0 version was trying to accomplish. All i need is actual time to do this....:wall:

just installed mod and i got some really strange/insanely huge upkeep prices; elephants are now 6000 and most of the units were mostly all around 1000 upkeep. did i install it wrong?

No, you didn't. Some of the prices are realy too high at the moment, but it is very much playable. And it is only the case with hellenic heavy cavalry. and Elephants are supposed to be expensive:laugh4:

Thorlof, I've found another bug: It is one of the sauromatean starting citys, Uspe. There are two royal herds buildings, and if I try to destroy one, the game crashes. It must be related to your mod because in vanilla EB that town only starts with a trader.

Another bug: I was playing as the Sabaens and the forces of Tamane (I think this is the name, I mean that town right under Maryab) sallied and when I tried to fight that battle, I had a CTD. It never occured to me in vanilla, so I think it is somehow related to your mod. Or it could be one of those "once and never" bugs that sometimes pop up in EB.... But, Thorlof, you should really do somethinga about the sizes of Barbaric Cavalry, especially Galatikoi Lavotuxri. Theystill have 100 men which quite imbalances them against the other cavalry units which roughly have 50 riders.
In your description of the Dorkim Poeni it says that they used the Sarissa, but in your mod they use shieldwall.
Small Elephants have an archer floating 10 cm above their back, this seems to be a bug in that "elephant fix".

Umm.I get a ctd trying to do a qiuck battle using ure ROa 1. fix....oh and does it work with the new patch?
