Too many cars.
Not enough trains.
Too many idiots, for electing a fellow idiot to President.
Too much big business.

WAY too much attention to celebrities.
Hypocricy.
Medical care.
Drinking age of 21, way too high.
And lastly, basically just summing up the previous nine, our general way of life.

Drat, I though you meant favourite continent - so, as stupid as I am, I accidentally voted for South America, sorry Warluster.

If I had read the question correctly, I would have voted for Europe - I'm English. Europe is reasonably interesting as it's technically speaking "The Old World" with beautiful historical buildings, such as mighty castles containing centuries of Medieval history, and ancient Roman villas, which are not available in North America and some other continents. Europe also has a wide mix of different cultures spread across it - however these cultures are not too different from my own, like in other continents, so it's quite easy to get around in most places without having the locals staring at you for being strange in your actions!

As I have said, I live in England. There isn't much to like about my country, henceforth only the five points, but I'll try my best to expand upon them as I think of more:

1. Quite an interesting history behind it - wars with the Scots, invasions by the Welsh, religious termoile and an attempted invasion by the Spanish.
2. It has plenty of mountainous terrain that is easily accessible. The moors of Yorkshire and the steep and misty mountains of the Northern Highlands. All stunning in character and beauty.
3. Plenty of perfectly quiet and tranquil areas to reside.
4. A large variety of wild life to monitor and observe - I'm a little bit of an armature bird watch myself.
5. Regeneration programs - this could be a good/bad thing - bad if your buying a house, good if you own one/are selling one. My home's value has increased by a reasonably large sum over the past couple of years and is expected to further increase as public amenities continue expanding in my local area.

What I like about where I come from:
- The people here are nice.
- The beautiful land to explore.
- The safe wilderness (no dangerous animals at all).
- It's a pretty safe country.
- Nobody hates us (except maybe Australia but they don't matter :tongue2:)
- My NZ passport doesn't give me any problems anywhere.
- Living in a volcano crater with geysers and earthquakes etc. is always fun.
- We have cool birds.
- We have a good
- We have good relations between Pakeha and Maori.

May I add to this; No litter, Very looong tunnels, 'bobbly' road surfaces on the autobahn/strada, nice harsh German accents. :clown:

Belgium, Europe

1) confusing politics to foreigners
2) french fries!
3) beer!
4) very decent educational system

6) jokes about Dutchmen (no offence ;))
7) did I mention beer?
8) so many different languages, it's quite fun to try and understand some words of most of them.
9) our prisons (honestly, they're a constant source of fun)

England, which should definitely be an option in itself.

Things I like:
1. I can insult almost anyone (French, Irish, Scots, Americans, Welsh, Italians...) and just call it patriotism.
2. We have the glorious 'Jerusalem' as an alternate national anthem.
3. Drinking heavily is respecting one's culture, not criminal :)
4. This is the birthplace of Prog Rock, which probably makes up about 80% of what I listen to.
5. Easy way of life
6. Hilarious politicians, combined with Bremner, Bird and Fortune.
7. Chavs lowering the percentage needed for an A* in GCSE maths, English and sciences.

Things I dislike
1. Girls about 10 years old smoking.
2. Growing obesity rates.
3. the papers.
4. Not having an empire any more :(

Norwegian. The 10 things I like:

1. Our drinking culture
2. Football
3. We're socialists
4. Our welfare state
5. The oil, and the fact that we're filthy rich because of it
6. Our close proximity to sweden, the land of cheap tobacco and alcohol
7. Our close proximity to denmark, the land of even cheaper tobacco and alcohol
8. The fjords
9. our general antireligious attitude
10. The hilly landscape

right now USA. i only like the quietness of living here. (Fairfax, VA)

but my homecountry Philippines (Asia)
1.got a nice, beautiful villa in the provincial area
2.looks beautiful when the sun is out. palm trees. shiny, gleaming water. (provincial area and urban area)
3. things are quite cheap. movies,food etc.
4.alot of fun, cool, festivals
5.really good food
6.temperature
7.religion is actually important here
8.alot of different dialects in certain parts of the country
9.hot girls at the mall :grin:
10. alot of historical sites (such as a cathedrel built by Ferdinand Magellan in the 14th century)

I hail from the Philippines too.

God's Grace got it right on all ten, especially 3, cigarettes are deathly cheap here (not that I'd take advantage of it) and 9, the girls are hot here - mixed ancestry and all that jazz. :crown:

My Philippines Top Ten in no order:
1. most 1st world conveniences are available here
2. people are very nice and friendly
3. tons of great adventure spots (hiking, scuba, spelunking etc)
4. tons of great tourist spots (historical manila, rice terraces, chocolate hills etc)
5. tons of great beaches (variety too)
6. tons of malls and other shopping opportunities
7. I better stop.. I'm sounding like a tourist ad (though you are all very welcome here). suffice to say, Life is never dull here.

Where does this poll's Europe-Asia border lie? Is it Greece/Russia, Turkey/Georgia, Turkey/Armenia?

Well, if its by the way I learned in School, I'm guessing Europe is North of the Bosporous(sp?) Straight, and North of the Caucasus, so Armenia would be Asia... of Course parts of Armenia lie north of the Caucasus I think... so I don't know, whichever one you feel you are a part of!

3. Yes, for the most part our women are good looking! still quite a few fuglies out there... but thats everywhere I'm guessing.

I originally come from Asia. What I like about it the most is (in a very broad sense) the friendliness, warmth and hospitality of the people.

I live in New Zealand, things I like about NZ it's a nice place to live and er...

California USofA:

1) The Diversity (you can find some funny characters around these parts)
*on top of that, the huge amount of uniqueness in every part of the country that you can find while traveling around, like visiting different cultures sometimes
2) Hrmmm.... the friendly civilians(once you break the ice of course)
3) The beautiful countryside
4) The opportunities possibilities that abound
5) The women(except for the butterfaces, fubglies, rhinos, elephants, etc...)
6) American Muscle cars and the rest of those late 60's early 70's classics
7) The schooling that is available(although my high school sucked)
8) The freedom of abusing the Freedom of Speech is really fun to do sometimes(couldn't think of one, and anyone living here has probably already done that lol)
9) Just living here is enough to fill out the top ten imo.
10) The country itself, no more no less

Belgium.

Basicly, nice and quiet if you want it to be, all party if you want it to be. The Netherlands is a bit of a pocket metropole.

Belgium:

But at least we've got a sense of humour.

Also, we get to be smug Western Europeans without having to be French, German, Dutch or Brittish.

I was born on Curaçao and grew up on Aruba (hence my title, "Desert Son"), two islands in the Netherlands Antilles off the coast of Venezuela. I was born, therefore, in South America, and much of the atmosphere and mood there (as opposed to the Dutch one of my parents) rubbed off on me. As with every place, there are the bad sides, but the reasons for which I take pride in being a son of those parts (even born to colonials) is great, with reasons I can't quite name. The warmth, hospitality, and incredible ability for optimism of this continent, this culture, will forever remain with me. Just like the loose hips and the memory of beautiful women ~:pimp:

And then... then there's my ancestral homeland. The Middle East. The Promised Land -- Israel. I am a Zionist and intensely proud of being Jewish, and long to lay eyes upon the Judean hills and the great city of Jerusalem. I identify far more strongly with Jews, and then especially the sabraim (and, of course, olehim!) of Israel, than I do with any place else, even Curaçao or South America (I would, however, go to defend mi dushi Kòrsou if the Venezuelans came knocking ~;)).

In the future, I plan to make aliyah.

Finally, my parents and family are Dutch. I have very little with the Netherlands, besides the language and the fact that I live there. I have few Dutch friends (i.e. white Dutchmen born and raised in the clay) and mostly hang out with immigrants and/or their descendants.

There are, of course, the exceptions aplenty (like my parents), and Holland has its advantages and beauties (Rotterdam being one of them) but on average I find your average Dutchmen to be a stupid, short-sighted lout, with plenty delusions but a lot less real knowledge -- especially if they hail from the bloody province and periphery. Then again... that's the case with over 90% of worldwide human society, eh?

Where we were born, or where our descendents were born?

10 things I like about the UK:

(1) I can understand the people because they speak English. (Yes, I have similar high standards in women: "two arms, two legs, one head - check".)

(2) The TV - it's all American (or rather all the bits worth watching are) but we get the best of American TV without having to shift through the endless dross and adverts.

(3) BBC Radio 4 and Channel 4 News - by providing in-depth coverage and contrasting viewpoints it is such a tonic to the vacuity and inanity of 24 hour news and mainstream TV news.

(4) The weather - damp, dark, cold ... I mean, moderate.

(5) The democratic politics - it is so funny hear Britons whine about corruption and the base nature of our politicians when you compare our politics with those of many countries where political opponents disappear and Presidents siphon off national resources.

(6) The political correctness - it would be inconcievable for a Brit of any standing to do a Falwell and blame 9/11 on "gays, feminists, lesbians" etc.

(7) The food - it's all foreign (or rather the bits worth eating are) but we get to eat stuff from all parts of the world (Italian, Indian, Chinese etc) without being stuck with one type of cuisine.

(8) Public services and the welfare state - we complain about taxes and government inefficiency, but at least everyone gets health care, schooling and enough to live on.

(9) Irish nationalism, Scottish nationalism, Welsh nationalism - we are even at risk of English nationalism (heaven help us that is an ugly thing). It's like being in a big, noisy family.

(10) Heathrow airport - at least we are not stuck on this blooming island.

Technically speaking, Britain is in Europe. However, since we Brits are not actually connected to the continent and have no borders with any of the countries over there, we prefer to think of ourselves as non-Europeans - it's more patriotism that anything.

The UK being in or out of Europe has been explored thoroughly in numerous threads in the place that should never be mentioned in the Frontroom.

France.

Beautiful cities.
Beautiful landscape.
Women being not only beautiful but also charming and well great in everything.
Best wine in the universe.
Great food.
Bred. And cheese. And wine. Altogether.
The seas.
Theatres.
French language, whether spoken or written.
Education, health and transport system as well as secularism.

That makes ten it is possible to add much more, mainly concerning women, but it does not have its place in the frontroom.
