Tales from the Shepherd Empire
https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h...ianpicture.jpg
We have always been here. We are farmers, we are shepherds. We are warriors!
We had fought and we had lost! It was a desperate situation people from the north came across from the moutain wall of Iberia and changed our ways forever We had adapted with these tribes arival and had sued for peace but our lands were barren. Tales from the Greek merchants from the eastern sea told us of a Man named Alexandros, Megas Alexandros they called him had ruled a land far away that never ended. Our king Tantalos Lusotankum had always dreamed of being like this King but throughtout his rule he had struggled to keep his tribe alive. Only now im 272BC would he be ready for moving towards reclaiming the lost lands of his people.
Bare with me lads lassys and ladeens first AAR wish me luck :sweatdrop:

Tales from the Shepherd Empire
Chapter one 272BC rise of the Lusotanakum
Tantalos was tired. Tired of hearing the same old stories, tired of how long ago men had begun to cross the moutain passes how they chased the lusitanians to the west. By Tantalos time they were not much differnent from each other both Gaullic and iberian the tribes had mixed. but Tantalos was different he had been born into a southern clann a son of a shepherd on the slopes of a moutain. He had never taken to sheep and his earliest memories were of his brothers taunting him of his lack abilities. It didnt matter now they were dead. long dead.
One night raiders came and destroyed the farms of his clann fearing for his life Tantalos ran and was found by an uncle who took him over the moutain. During that week they wandered to where the city people lived there Tantalos was sold to a noble man and worked in his house he never saw the uncle again. He couldnt remember his family name all he knew was that he was Tantalos Lusotanakum a pure one too Very rare. He grew and learnt the ways of the city people and at 15 he deceided to escape many Iberians moved to the citys and he felt a longing for them he knew they were his people not like the leaders of the citys or the Greek traders that came from the eastern seas. He learned of stories of battles, gods and Carthage and syracuse. Alexandros was the most intresting story he was inspired of this man everyone knew of him and his deeds.
He left and wandered back to where he would find his people going a different direction to all the iberians he met. he arrived at a village and within a week he fought for the village and then for the clanns of the valley and soon for the tribes of the moutains and that was when in the heat of a battle with north men he saw his king fall. Tantalos took control and won that battle. and soon lead these men and women on a story of defeat and retreat and finally victory and stability and growth.
But he was old and tired the stories had been told before. he was tired of being king tired of being a man with all the world resting on his shoulders tired of Heoric defeats tired of constant moving tired of seeing Lusotannan men women and children move to the southern cities to find work scared of the gauls tired of subsitance sheep farming Tired of being angry of those who had abandonded the cause. He was even tired of Alexandros and his deeds.
This was the story of Tantalos Lusotanakum and his family and his people.
In a bold move He had gathered the very last of his armies and his eldest born son to a council they were going to move and give eveything they could give. https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h...ebeginning.jpg
the army was split into two and Tantalos headed to the treacherous Iberians of the south who had fractured from the Lusitanian tribes and moved towards bowing to the Carthaginian men of the southern cites. His son Latronos moved north towards the Gaulic men the Galleci if it failed then the money would be gone and the future of his people gone. Sucum murgi was the town closest to where he had been born he rembered it and to see his blood brothers abandon the cause was an insult to his dead family. In the north the strange Galleci reamled and after a great battle many years ago it was said most of them had sallied far away north to the mysty Isles Bringing the west of Iberia under his control would be a task Tantalos would hope to see. He was tired because he was old. He knew time was calling him and this would be his last heroic deed for the Lusotannan and this time it would be victory....
Hmmm gone over the top again just like in my Casse AAR that i never even posted.. oh well enjoy and i will squeeze another one in later on tonight and i promise i wont waffle on haha
OH! and can anyone tell me a could programe to use where i can enlarge the pictures but dont ruin the pixels..?!?! that map of Lusitania looks shite

Tales from the Shepherd Empire
Chapter Two - Sucum Murgi and Tyde controlling the western shoreline
A soft westerly wind blew there was a small murmur among the men Tantalos spoke to his men monitoring the town ahead. Jubal was in there looking back at him, Jubal had fought alongside Tantalos once. He was a skilled fighter and had abandoned Tantalos at a battle with the Arevaci confederacy declaring that he was king of the true Lusotannan. He had traded only with the Carthaginian cities and made active steps to pledging his land to them. Tantalos knew that Jubal was a man of southern cities he had lied to the tribes and seeked to subjugate them. They had been slowly extending their influence in the area and Tantalos would have to check this.
The order was given and the men surged forward a Levy moved in first skirmishing with the defenders hoping to tire the enemy. They breached the palisade and swiftly became little more then carcasses for the enemy to practice slash and stab techniques. More levies moved in and sensing an opportunity they flung their javelins high into the air and as they fell they imbedded themselves into the backs of the busy infantry. The rest of the army moved in and split Jubal’s army containing any effective counterattack. Jubal’s unit desperately charged a line of spearmen only to collapse and Jubal himself was singled out and cut down by the Riders of Tantalos's troops. It was obvious the battle was won and Tantalos tried to rally former comrades to conceed defeat but it was clear they had no love left for their king and fought until the last. Many of the best soldiers were lost and Tantalos would have to wait for these men to be replaced before he could move onto the Carpetani tribe east of Sucum-Murgi.
https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h...rgiMontage.jpg
Meanwhile to the North the Second army lead by Latronos, the future chieftain, had been lost in the forests of the Galleci. Upon arriving at the town gates by the following summer of the fall of Sucum Murgi and the defeat of Jubal's supposed independent Iberians. Tyde was a small port town but and important stop for trade from the Misty Isles to the north where much Tin and other metals were to be found.
Latronos had arranged his troops in much the same order of his father. The Levies carried a ram to the gates and broke through while under constant Fire from the javelins of the Galleci defenders. Undeterred they rushed through determined to make a point of themselves to earn respect of their better-equipped peers. Poverty had made its mark in Lustania these levies had no armour and the smallest of swords. Poverty makes a man desperate and the Lusotanakum were desperate indeed. The conscripts continued to fight well. The levies surrounding the infantry and dealing good blows to the two Galleci units. The infantry out fought them soon enough their spears and swords cutting through the young soldiers. Just like in Sucum murgi most were cut down only 15 escape unscathed. As the more experienced troops of the army moved in they fought long and hard with the defenders destroying them and even catching the cavalry of the Galleci leader. The army retreated back to the high ground in the centre of the city Latronos then ordered an encirclement. And as the heavier spearmen moved behind the battered army the last of the general and his gate defenders surged forward to meet the infantry that was preparing a frontal charge of the reserves. The general soon found himself alone facing a wall of spears what happened next even cause Latronos to wince at the Heroic Death of the leader. It was a matter of time now and the Galleci were now trapped fighting back to back soon they succumbed to the might of the Lusotannan!

Tales from the Shepherd Empire
Chapter Three-Onwards regardless
Latronos Listened intently to the noblemen of Tyde. He had trouble trying to understand every word that was said. The language of the men from the north was disharmonious compared to his. he asked them to slow down.
"You may have the power now Lord. but! But you will have to prove to these people how we will prosper as your allies to the east lie the Arevaci and their allies. A strong power indeed what do we gain from joining this confederacy"
The noble spoke in a insidious manner implying that Latronos was only a passing ruler and would soon go just like the great men who had fled north. All along the coast until reaching the Euskadi of the Mountain wall Men came and then left boarding boats to go north to the lands of the gods and where the mist of the boiling seas from the west brought demons of the underworld.
"we have enemies too Lord. Our neighbours the Asturi they steal our sheep our cattle and sometimes our women. Since.... you have killed our men and this is now YOUR land then it is your duty to avenge the kidnap of YOUR women"
"very well" Smiled Latranos he then sighed “We will have to raise the taxes to make a force to deal with them. Wait? The only money left in this rugged land...oh just yours and your noble friends I guess you owe ME as I am now your ruler..."
The glorious smirk that emanated from the nobles face was gone in a flash what was left was a hollow face. Latranos burst into laughter.
https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h...ence/270BC.jpg
In the south things faired better Tantalos had discharged his veterans and gave them the lands of the dead Iberians. Enslaving the survivors into new levies. New trade had relived pressure back in Oxtaca. Over the next few seasons the economic hardship was eased. Tantalos would have to show he meant business diplomats and retainers were sent beyond the mountain wall and into the cities of the south. Even though he was far from capable of defending his land he needed to show some strength. Of course the Arevaci didn’t care. They were too powerful holding the centre of Iberia but lacking the foresight to see they held the largest army on the land. The men of southern cities had stationed an army in the east outside Mastia. Monitoring what was going on beyond his lands would be key. Beyond the Mountain wall was Gaul He learned of a civil war that had raged on for centuries with tribes rising and falling like the tides each day. The survivors had fled south bringing the destruction with him. Tantalos knew that the to hold the wall was to protect Iberia from any more intruders. He also knew he would never see that day. He needed to reach Baikor and that way he could keep the Carthaginians south of the mountains and squeezed next to the sea. The chance would come soon. Baikor had a large mine a lot of trade was falling into the cities hands only to be wasted away by corrupt men. Tantalos saw the money being used to rise the standard of living for his people. Roads and general infrastructure were needed.
Money was slow to arrive in the north Latranos decided all he could do was to march on the Asturi in Pallantia. The veterans from the south headed to meet him at Tyde. Not much of the army was left. The two armies had now become one and a much smaller force from before. Garrisons were left in Tyde. Upon reaching the town it was decided that the siege would be quick and it was hoped the battle too which proved to be wrong skirmishing had reduced levies but they had destroyed a guard at the gate but then were pushed back and eventually slain. The gate became a blood bath the army was slowly being forced out of the settlement but in a stroke of like the enemy general found himself isolated and surrounded his horse was brought down and he was prompted slain by the heaviest troops. The enemy faltered and broke cut down as a flood of Lusotannan men poured through the settlement gates. Isolated pockets of men were resisting but soon collapsed under the sheer weight of the army. Latronos had fought a good battle and the Asturi were beaten but the rugged lands in the north were far from productive.
https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h...tiamontage.jpg
In 4 years the Lusotannan tribal Confederacy would start to prosper and Tantalos by this time was 70 years old, wise and starting to feel frail the army was brought south and Tantalos headed east towards to Carpetani of Baikor. The important mines were crucial Most of the trade had again headed south and the Carpetani had given up much independence to the Carthaginians. Iberian resources had been snatched away And it was time to liberate them. After a half a year siege The walls were breached.
Just like Pallantia the defenders of this town were much more stubborn in moving from the walls. A new type of solider had arrived on the battlefield, heavy spearmen. The Scuttari, they had managed to hold the gate and rout the Levies and fresh troops from the confederacy. After the destruction of much of the army the last garrison held out in the town centre. Tantalos had entered the fray himself. The enemy chieftan had fled and was hiding at the other side of the town. While fighting and slaying to young soldiers Tantalos felt a sharp pain in his left arm he smiled expecting to see a small desperate fighter about to bring him down. As he swung his sword round parallel with the gaze of his eyes he was surprise to see no one there. The pain got worse and soon was in his chest. He signalled he was in distress in the confusion of the battle the army pulled out Tantalos was slumped into his saddle clutching at his chest. He was having a heart attack. A local healer brewed an herbal soup and the pain was eased. The captains sent some levies to continue the siege while the army recovered they were destroyed forthright and a weakened Tantalos marched to Baikor again. He walked out of his tent one night dismissing his guards. He climbed a small hill and looked over the settlement and his army. With a small pray to the gods and to his ancestors he sat and watched smiling at the scenery of his land. He closed his eyes and thought of younger days, meeting his wife, fighting the Arevaci during the dark days and he began to see fallen comrades looking back further he saw the farmstead and his family his brothers and his father. He stood up and walked towards them ignoring the army and Baikor which laid behind him They smiled and welcomed him in he didn’t care now he knew what was happening and a peaceful wave came across him Tantalos had passed on. In his tent was a simple note. “Onwards regardless”

Re: Tales from the Shepherd Empire -A Lusotannan AAR
Chapter 4
The Confederacy
Latronos was now King and as a king in a newly conquered land he felt good. His father was dead he had now aged too. The fiery hair had faded to white but he was still feeling young. Pallantia had put up quite a fight and introduced new types of weapons and armour. These Celtic tribes had proved fierce Iberian warriors. But trouble at Baikor had cut short his celebrations.
The siege went onwards regardless “onwards regardless” as he had proscribed on the night of his death. Baikor had not known of the death of the king. The new husband of Latronos’s sister, Katunos was quick to prove loyalty and he arrived at the ragged army at the broken down walls of Baikor. The battle was quick the staunch scutarri defenders were gone and simple spearmen were not enough to fight a grieving foe blaming them for their Chieftains death. Baikor was now under the control of Katunos. The mines were worked and more money was pouring the Lusotannan confederacy was growing.
https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h...nce/Baikor.jpg
It wasn’t growing unnoticed. With the rise of Lusotannan power and a loss of possible allies The Carthaginian cites began to mobilise the spies reported an influx of soldiers in bother Gader and Mastia. They didn’t seem to want to leave the cities which was good. Latronos was ready to move further east above the town of Pallantia stood a large Hill and from that Hill he could see the great mountain wall snow caped and shining. With an army behind him composed of new Pallantia warriors they began the march to Velika.
Velika was quite small but the main centre of the northeast region. Euskadi and celts lived in these foothills. Holding Velika meant controlling the region and by this time Velika was under attack from raiding tribes of Arevaci they too began to get worried as the Lusotannan encroached closer to their lands. The men of Velika had not thought to build a wall and the army marched right through the settlement small fighting occurred but it was nothing like Pallantia. Upon arrival the carpetani marched out to Velika and broke under the stronger more experienced army. Latronos had made into the centre of town and was proclaiming himself king while the battle went on. King. A first for a Lusotannan the Carpetani looked up to kings they compared Latronos to the god king of the Averni tribe to the north beyond the wall. King of the Lusotannan peoples king in name only. There were Arevaci kings. And Greek cities and Carthaginian cities they did not see a king they saw a tribal chieftain who was quickly over stretching his control.
After a few years The Confederacy began to evolve Sucum murgi and Tyde felt themselves as Lusotannan towns. The Asturi, Carpetani and Cantabri were allied to the tribe and safe trade existed round the coasts. Arsè was a greek colony in east perched upon a hill it traded with the Romani and other Greeks far away. Rich plunder Latronos thought new wealth to build an army. Tantalos was 8 years dead and now even Latronos was feeling his age. His dream of uniting Iberia was now curtailed to uniting all of the tribes’ cept the Arevaci who were in face of it all still allies and the powerful Carthaginians in the south. With the mining from Baikor and the increased trade in tin a real port was needed to the eastern seas something to bypass the southern cities traders.
Arsé was one of the larger settlements of Iberia but its army was not Greek they fought with the typical spear Greek style. Slow and brittle compared to fluid Lusotannan skirmishing. As usual the army was standard but with the new added fighters from Pallantia and Baikor. Strong warriors ready for hard fighting. They would be needed against the Greek spear style fighting. A yearlong siege had done much to reduce the moral and numbers of men inside but the men at the wall were starving also. Latronos knew that breaching the gate would bottle neck his forces. And give the Greeks the upper hand the streets were narrow also he had not seen this type of place before and he enjoyed it. He ordered that upon entering the city none of the fine masonry would be damaged he envision this great port city as his capital.
A ram approached the gate and another 40 yards down the wall. From what he could tell the army had pulled back to the main street leading to the massive marble town square he would not be able to tell what would await him till he made a hole. The levied men had done well charging into the city they had met with similar foes from before. As they went through the main gate the Edtani began to pour out from the streets fighting to stop any major incursion into the city the levies had worn down the vanguard and managed to make sufficient gains by the gate to allow more troops to enter. At the wall breach it had proved harder the Famed Hoplites were waiting. Immediately at the other side braver spearmen were sent in to help the diminished levies soon most of the common men had fled and the spearman began to slug it out. Also Slingers from the Islands just east of the horizon had been paid to help they dealt massive causalities to the horde of men who came from the main street.
https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h...lence/Arse.jpg
Latronos noticed something. He could move some men away from the battle up a side street that ran round the wall He could sneak his way round the main army and capture the town square three units of reserves were sent in the marched slowly and unnoticed away from the battle. Even as the cities military leader pour into the fray Experience had proved itself to be the winner of the battle. The greek-celt general was killed after being squashed up against a wall unable to manoeuvre from danger he was impaled it broke the moral of the tired defenders they ran and the fresh reserves waiting on the other side of the wall rushed in with Latronos at the lead.
Meanwhile the secondary force had now reached the town square two units of men, spearmen Greek and Iberian waited for them. Without a clear direction they stood still and the javelins rained forth. Followed by the charge the secondary force was doing quite well on its own the fighters from the gate had reached the square and finally crushed the Edanti army while crushing many of the fleeing soldier from the gate quite literally.
https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h...onfederacy.jpg
Latronos was pleased his palace was magnificent and a great temple dedicated to Lugos stood gleaming across the city. Not even the army wanted to sack the city many soldiers would rest well and pluck the fruits of hard labour of the day. Many widowed women now roamed the city. It was not good news everywhere. A Carthaginian spy was watching. The Lusotannan now had access to a port in the eastern sea. The economic effects would be felt quite quickly as the trade diverted to the north. The Lusotannan had overstepped the mark something would have to be done and the Carthaginians had plans.. Which began to take effect….

Re: Tales from the Shepherd Empire -A Lusotannan AAR
Tales from the shepherd Empire
Chpater 5 The Emergency
Latronos Scoffed at his meal. Upon entering Arsé he had declared the Edanti full Lusotannan members, which had got the backs up of the lesser tribes of the confederacy notably the more southern tribes. Comparisons were made that the Carthaginians were better rulers then the Lusotannan and small uprisings took place. The Carpetani had proved to very critical of the move. Baikor demanded Full rights within the confederacy. Sucum- Murgi had a notable population drop as people began to move south.
Agents had been spotted around the border with the cities to the south. Foul play was at work and a large increase of soldiers in the south had Latronos on edge. He had grown fat in Arsé enjoying the delights of the Greek style of leisure a far cry from the Stoic philosophy his father had preached persuing a lifestyle of those men in cities would prove to be a Lusotannan mans downfall. The endless pursuit of wine and women and the coin of precious metals made men soulless and empty. Latronos was to busy having fun to care for the little things he knew his was time was close and a successor would have to be named.
Katunos was the choice as he had saved the southern armies at the gates of Baikor He had also managed to prove himself as a ruler calming the men of Baikor but even now he was having trouble. More and more agents have been spotted in and around Baikor in an attempt to curb the trouble he tightened security but it just made it worse. Latronos seemed to be no help. Rotenanko his second son had made a name of himself curbing the rebellions. He was the new generation of Lusitanian nobles that had grown up alongside the new subjects of conquered tribes of Iberia and this way he had learnt to appreciate their customs where his fathers could not. He was going to lead an army against the Arevaci in a bold move to prove the strength of his kingdom before it collapsed Many men did not like the word Kingdom and influx of tribes and peoples made it hard to re order everyone in their place. Things were going to take a drastic turn for the worse.
Latronos sat eating. Looking out of the palace he watched the people living their daily lives a messenger was telling him of increased activity of Carthaginians He scoffed at the information and laughed he was drunk. As he continued to sputter he tried talking drinking and eating all at the same time the sputtering worsened and he was soon choking. His body guards surged forward and he hit the floor clutching at his throat the men tried to beat the mans chest as his chocking got continuously worse he fell again this time face first vomiting all over the men’s feet as they tried to help him. A blood-curdling scream muffled by the wine and food lodged in his throat echoed around the room. Then silence.
The messenger hurried to the centre of Baikor. “Latronos is dead!!!! I must get through”
”Katunos is speaking with some agents from the south he requested privacy no-one is aloud through” The messenger pushed through the men and continued on “STOP!!!” He swung round a drew his sword
“I must speak with Katunos immediately and if you stop me by Lugos I will kill on the spot you stand”
The men backed off the messenger was one of the nobles who rode with Latronos he was scared by battle many times over and he smiled as the men stepped forward and hesitated they quickly broke and run. He laughed and walked through as he stepped inside it dawned on him why the men would run off surely in this place they were tasked to guard Katunos with their lives. The place was a mess. He realised then who the guards were but curiosity drove him on. Two bodies lay on the ground. Both holding their throats like Latronos was as he died in his arms. “Katunos?!?! Master?” He continued on to the inner sanctum of the warrior hold “fuc….”
”TREACHERY!!!!! THE KINGS OF LUSOTANNAN HAVE BEEN SLAIN!!!!”
Rotenanko looked up. “Murdered and poisoned!!!. Rotenanko looked at his men Settling down for an evening meal Rotenanko dropped his food. NO ONE EAT!!! We must hurry back to Oxtraca.
A new army had been training in Oxtraca ready for the battle with the Arevaci Baikor had rioted once the news of Katunos death was heard Martial law was placed in the town and Sucum Murgi pledged men at a extraordinary rate. Roteanko Declared himself king in a hurried assembly and proposed a march on Gader the city directly to the south of Sucum Murgi. The network of counter spies that were in the south informed him of army positions and he new that Mastia had a huge army inside and outside of the city. There was also a man named Bisaltes who rang the Iberian south from there Capturing Gader would provide masses of wealth for the rampaging makeshift army a quick force march and they were outside the city. A small scouting party went forward and reported that a large force of Iberians allied to the Carthaginians was waiting. Rotenanko had no time to spare and a call to battle was declared. The marched down a wooded valley side and in front of them the army waited. The lines clashed in usual fashion and Rotenko led a flanking force the hurried mobilisation meant mass confusion broke out among his men. Inside the forests he could see fighting but he could not see who was were. Charging into massed of men seemed to have the desired effect a foreign horn was blown and as the fighting stopped some men began to head towards the gleaming city in the distance. CUT THEM DOWN!!! The chase lasted a whole 24 hours as culminated in a mass slaughter of the Gader citizens. Rage fuelled the massacre and plundering begun. The men were happy for the moment but Rotenanko new he would have to wait to see the Carthaginians next move.
Soon enough men crossed from the mountains and headed to Sucum Murgi and Baikor. Ravaging the landscape small armies from Arsé had headed directly to Mastia and were promptly crushed by Bisaltes. Rotenanko new he would have to kill the attacking armies before he could meet Bisaltes Baikor was under siege the following month and the lands around Scum Murgi had been ravaged. Wading through two forces of Carthaginians he arrived at the Siege It was desperate situation. The stench of death could be smelt before Baikor had even come into view. Between them stood the final raiding army of Carthaginians. Their armies seemed little more then levies. Masses of untrained men Rotentko and his men had killed more then 3 times there number a trail of death where the thirst for more killing was not yet quenched in the panic of the murders and rioting. Another day another fight another massacre entering Baikor the people inside pledged allegiances spitting on the corpse of dead Carthaginians and how they had accepted their hand but the Carthaginians had betrayed them. Rotenanko was furious the speaker who told him of the Carpetani treachery was prompt decapitated more loyal tribes settled in the remains of the town and rebuilding began. News at Mastia was not good Loyal warriors from the north who had headed to Mastia had been destroyed by Bisaltes just as Rotenanko had crushed his armies
Moving along the coast Mastia was a few weeks travel Messenger reported that Bisaltes was waiting for him outside of the city. One night he watched as his men pillaged a farmstead laughing at first he watched as small boy picked up a sword and waved it around in front of the soldiers the laughed knocking it out of the boys hands as men pinned down his mother 2 more began to beat the boy senseless the mother was then turned over and head pinned down into mud his screams could not be heard. Rotenanko Froze disgusted he walked over and killed all those present a woman, a small boy and 5 of his own men. He declared that any more rape and torture of these Iberians would be punishable by death. He did not sleep easy that night and would never be able to sleep well for the rest of his life.

Hugging the mountains that ran along the coast Rotenanko men set up camp just south west of Mastia Bisaltes the feared general of these men. Approached his horses were amazing. Silver adorned and wearing their own armour Rotentako was nervous Bisaltes had also major armoured Iberian fighters that Rotenanko had never seen. The men were restless as the Silver gleaning armour marched forward charging up hill Bisaltes lead the men and crashed into the spearman tasked with holding the line. Rotenanko shuddered he had some lighter cavalry forces and used them to flank and harass the army leading men away from the main battle. Some slingers He had his own which has been hired on route to Mastia were also flanking and Bisaltes rear was open letting off a volley of shots the massed silver Calvary began to fall the lighter Calvary rushed in and soon The General and his men were surrounded now the tables had turned. Rotenanko had been fighting along the line were he had slowly destroyed the weaker units of the army the Silver Iberian fighters who were fearsome had cut many of his men down and gutted some of his Bodyguard. A horn blew out and Bisaltes had been slain somewhere down the hillside the men looked up and faltered Rotenanko blew his own horn signalling the fight to continue soon enough the fearsome armour clad soldiers decided they had enough a rout began. Once again The rout lasted well into the next day A massacre in Mastia had finally quenched the blood thirst of Rotenanko and his rugged army. For a year and a half they had fought constantly losing many men on the way and killing many others.

Re: Tales from the Shepherd Empire -A Lusotannan AAR
Your doing pretty good right now. The only problem is some grammatical errors but other than that your on the right track. Keep it up!
-
Re: Tales from the Shepherd Empire -A Lusotannan AAR
Yes, the only problem is that is an little dificult to read and understand but since my english is not the best I cant complain :juggle2:
-
Re: Tales from the Shepherd Empire -A Lusotannan AAR
Yes yes i can quote from an old school report from an English teacher
"Dominic Has the ability to write fun, interesting Stories and prose. He Fails however, to grasp an understanding of basic grammar and punctuation thus ruining a high standard of literal work" :laugh4: :laugh4:
I usually write these and get them finished before i go to bed so when im proof reading i skip over some stuff but i've written the new chapter up and i can proof read it once i get in from work and stick the pictures to match.
I thought maybe my AAR was a wee bit to Text heavy and that people would be put off by all the writing. I tend to go on a bit too much about background information and get descriptive of things that don't really need much attention making the AAR move at too slow a pace for some peoples liking.

Tales from the Shepherd Empire
Chapter 6 - First battle for Celtiberia
Mastia was quiet the smell still lingered. On sometimes of the burning embers of former houses but mostly the smell of bodies. Even though the last bodies were burnt a week ago it still filled every cavity of the spacious city. Rotenanko was please his grandfather had taught him the city language. It was nothing like any of the languages he had heard before and he had heard quite a few. Greek, Iberian, Euskadi the Latin of the Romani tribe, it sounded not to dissimilar from the various Celtic languages that he had heard countless times. Discussing terms with his new citizens, they were prepared to be allies but he also knew that in the first sign of a landing from the foreigners they would quickly revolt. He wasn’t too worried he had heard that one before back in Gader no ship had ever arrived. He had declared himself king and with that had entered the other tribes full rights into the confederacy taking preference over the Carthaginian men. It had quelled any question of leadership and the massive slaughter of the majority of the Carthaginians had also shut the more rebellious elements of Lusotannan up.
https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h...stiacentre.jpg
It was always clear that there was a final obstacle in claiming the title of king of Iberia. The high centre of Iberia had been occupied by some of the hardiest of Celts. The Arevaci and their allies the Belli had been staunch defenders from further attacks into Iberia and had in a few instances stood alongside the Lusotannan against the same people which were now considered Lusotannan themselves. Even though Tantalos and Latronos had sent diplomats to the Arevaci and a promise to stop raiding was made it still occurred in Edanti, Cantabri and Carpetani areas under Moskon, the most feared raider in the land. This was something these people demanded an end to. It had always been Rotenanko intentions however, to force the Arevaci under his control.
Wealth had arrived in the Lusotannan Kingdom experienced generals, experienced soldiers and experienced governors. with a new powerful army It had never been any better. News had returned from north of the barrier, the world was a truly huge place. It would seem the Aeudi had nearly won the Gallic civil war. The story was they were the rightful rulers of the region and the usurpers; the Averni had rebelled against a sign of weakness in the face of invasion of Belgic gauls. The Romani lived on a land just to the east of the eastern sea. It stuck out like an arm reaching into the centre of the sea and clutching at all the trade that flowed along its serene waves. Many Romani visited the eastern coasts. They were not liked, very arrogant and condescending of Lusotannan ways even the Carthaginians hated them
https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h...e/246BCMap.jpg
Rotenanko had never known defeat heading towards the great fort of Numantia he ignored the warnings he was ready. He was going to achieve the dream of his grandfather and father the final piece in the puzzle was about to be complete. As he got closer settlements were deserted it was strange. The whispers of men were heard, shadows moved in the forests along the many trails that lead up the hill to Numantia. Now even Rotentako was scared the supply trains were ambushed and before people even knew what had happened the men faded away, they knew he was coming and they were waiting. Upon reaching the Numantian plateau it became very clear very quickly that they were prepared for him. Two armies were waiting, one inside the fort and one outside. Rotenanko told his men to pull back away from the city he was not prepared for this. A massive roar billowed out from the fort ahead. The march back became a trot then a gallop then a full speed charge as the roaring behind them never stopped. It followed them down the plateau and even when they were clear from the highlands horns could still be heard a mile or two away.
Rotenanko stopped the men were petrified and the in the distance above a thicket of trees a large army came down. The noise never stopped the supply trains long abandoned. His day of judgment arrived Rotenanko knew this would be the stand of the Lusotannan and he recognised the banner on the hillside. It was Moskon he had a fearsome reputation and led the best army in Iberia and it showed. Rotenanko spoke to his men he had to reassure them and he did well the men let out a war cry that rivalled any Arevaci horn the skirmishers were sent under cover into the thicket maybe they could tell what exactly Rotenanko was dealing with, Calvary, heavier spearman and infantry. The charge came and steel clashed The skirmishers had been caught on the right and a brawl had broken out towards the left the enemy Calvary tried to flank the troops Rotenanko anticipated this it was failed attack and the left flank stood firm not only that but the Lusotannan left had the advantage now he order them to try and out flank the left side of Moskons army trailing back to the right he glanced over the battle line and saw Moskon. He gestured at him “your next” he was heading the opposite way Rotenanko had to go to the right bolstering the troops moral as the full weight of Moskon’s army bore down on them.
https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h...skonBattle.jpg
Looking around Rotenko saw nothing but carnage the blood fuelled screams and roars of men falling and rising, killing and being killed. It had rained recently and the mud he stood on had churned up into sludge his arms were shaking in looking around all he could see was Gader and Mastia the screams of women and children his closest bodyguard griped it tight. “Sir are you ok? It would seem our left is winning and a chance has opened up to our flank on the right WE CAN DO THIS!!!!”
Rotenanko was spurred on by these words he suddenly realised that he was here by the will of the gods and his chance was now with a roar he led the men around the mass of sprawling skirmishes and Arevaci spearmen in the distance he could the left flank and it was curling up into a ball and absorbing the enemy fighters unit by unit beyond that fleeing Arevaci fighters of the He hadn’t even realised while looking at this he was charging head long into the back of the right flank fighters. He took a sharp intake of breath and looked to the sky the vultures hovered over head he was smiling. He sliced the head of a man clean off as his horsed shattered the spine of another The rage returned he surged into the crowd slaying many Looking around he saw some of his own men fleeing. He carried on but it was becoming apparent his men on the right were now all fleeing. The rage stopped and towards the left he saw the snowballing left flank move closer they would not reach him in time. Then in the corner he saw Moskon with 15 men behind he was in a V formation and heading his way He pulled the bodyguard out ignoring the fact his own right flank was crumbling and headed to Moskon. Moskon saw him and smiled the pace was picked up.
https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h...letheclash.jpg
”RAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!”
“LUSTONAAANNNNNNNN”””” Moments from impact the men looked at each other and for Rotenanko time slowed down sword raised the horses screaming Moskon had a lance and he raised it at Rotenanko chest Rotenanko looked in his eye Moskon looked back smiling It was the look fighters gave each other on the battlefield the moment when you realised you were going to die. Rotenanko froze unable to move he watched as Moskon lunged forward he could hear the screaming of Carthaginian massacres they got louder and louder till he looked round too horses screeched as he saw two of his own bodyguard collide directly with moskons horse The sound was immense all around screeching horses and armour cracking the very force had killed both the body guards and Moskon Flew up above Rotenanko’s head, his lance shot off into the air he fell to the floor and the crunch of his bones was heard clearly. Rotenanko was motionless it was like a Wave had crashed upon a rocker shore as his bodyguard simply slammed into Moskons. Moskon was still moving shaking rapidly his eyes rolling back in his skull Rotenanko cut into his head and brain fragments covered his eyes. He swiped at them unable to get clear vision with the noise around panicked him and the shaking started.
”Moskon is DEAD Hooray for Rotenanko King of IBERIA!!!”
Looking around he saw men fleeing all over the place the snowball was closer to his left and to his right the fleeing the skirmish had broken lost without his close guidance. It did not matter now it seemed that Moskon death had made the right flank of the Arevaci falter they too started to break and the battles lines disintegrated into a mess as men fled left right and centre both Lusotannan and Arevaci Rotenanko smiled he knew what was going to happen next it was the only cure to his fits of rage With a quick blow of the horn the tribes would quickly know which side won the hunt began.

Re: Tales from the Shepherd Empire -A Lusotannan AAR
haha cheers pal. That was an Epic battle Im sorry i didnt get a pic of left flank battles i was concentrating on winning I was out numbered and out gunned. the Moskon charge too it was pretty tense at that point in the battle i was so sure i was going to lose. actually my whole right flank had just broke then. so it was a desperate move that i was sure would get Rotentako Killed.
and while i watched them charging at each other I was :jawdrop: :jawdrop: and it was still 5 mins before some of the other defenders broke after moskon died.

Re: Tales from the Shepherd Empire -A Lusotannan AAR
Nice victory and nice update!!! :2thumbsup:
I had some problems dealing with that celtiberian stack in an old Lusotannan campain... But in my last Cartaginian campain they had to face the most powerfull army I've ever done in an EB campain: 2 units of forest elephants :skull: , 2 units of lancearii (iberian catraphacts, one of them with gold experience ) , 1 of Sacred band cavalry, 1 of sacred band infantry, 1 of African elite infantry, 3 of Gaesatae :laugh4: , 2 of experienced balearic slingers, 2 of Libian Heavy veterans and 6 of Hastati. Poor celtiberians :laugh4: .

Re: Tales from the Shepherd Empire -A Lusotannan AAR
That stack is just downright evil LC

Tales from the Shepherd Empire
Chapter 7 - Slaying of the Beast
Oxtraca was now over the horizon a few hours in to the journey Rotenanko started to lead ahead but alone he had been thinking a lot in the past few months. Audanecan the oldest and most senior member of the army next to him rode up beside him.
”Sir you seem quiet the bodyguard had been wondering what the problem is ever since we returned back to Oxtraca to retrain you have seemed slightly distant”
Rotenanko sighed and carried on after a few minutes he spoke
”what do you think about murder?”
”Well it’s a necessary part of battle and war sir You have to kill the person who is out to kill you other wise your life will be very short indeed” he laughed slightly as he ended his answer.
”No I mean outside of battle or when the battle has a clear winner I’m just thinking about all the deaths of the past 5 years”
“Oh you mean in the south.. when you killed that family and some of our men we were not really sure what to make of It” Audanecan was cautious ” You know they call you Rotenanko the Beast now I thought you liked the sense of dread it gave your enemies, sure since the southern cites capture we have been living in a great and peaceful time”
”well remember how we entered those cities Audanecan? remember what happened? was it so necessary? At Gader I was angry we had been betrayed and my father and uncle were killed the area around Baikor was overrun it was the best thing to do at the time but on the road to Mastia I pretty sure we killed nearly 20,000 people women and children I haven’t really been able to forget about those people with the battle at the foot of Numantia I nearly lost it”
”we noticed sir some of the men think your are possessed by a vengeful demon spawned of all the murder either it makes you kill better or it wants to kill you we are not sure perhaps you should consult at a shrine and see what the wise men have to say.”
“I have they just use their potions on me and I have terrible nightmares with them I dreamt we were back at the foot of that hill and how the mud began to start crawling all over the people swallowing them and the screams and it starts to cover me and I try to pull it off but it keeps on coming and it is in my mouth it tastes of blood and I can hear the screams of choking people”
”They show your dreams and thoughts that way you can reflect on such things you must try to fight these things my lord. I have served with your grandfather you know. Back then we were numbering little more then 30,000 and our very existence depended on him in the chaos of those times no one was safe. You do know that your grandfathers family were slain when he was a small child the same to my fathers family. we have found peace now, the very reason such trouble was started was because those people in the cities would throw money with empty promises of glory men would sell our tribe into slavery. That’s what your grandfather was a slave to a noble man in Gader those people did not care for our plight as long as they enjoyed the excesses hey enjoyed while our people blinded by hope of achieving the same life that was never going to materialise. That is what happened to your father he became fat and greedy that is why they could kill him he had conquered the north and was killed by tainted chicken”
” I suppose your right but im not sure I can allow myself to be responsible for all these deaths much longer. Once we have Numantia we would have finally freed our people and secured Iberia minus the small greek-celt town in the north east it is of little use to us I forgot about my familys humble beginnings my grandfather philosophy made sense maybe we are all equal its hard to share out everything equally maybe once the Arevaci see they would be more use joining with us then I set about creating his dream. What was he said. Ermmmm.”
They both joined in “ The pursuit of constant exponential wealth destroys all those around you and sows the seeds to your own very destruction hahahaha yes your grandfather was years and years ahead of his time” breaking into laughter thinking on Tantalos and his many theories.
4 months had passed they now stood before the wall of Numantia inside he could here them chanting away he had raised an army bigger then before and was prepared for what he thought was a huge battle. Unfrotunatly the plan was not going to work as planned.
As the army left Oxtraca the decision was made that heading straight into the Western parts of Celtiberia would probably help to draw out the army from Numantia. Once again it was quiet there was one small problem though it seemed a large village was abandoned but 200 odd men were waiting at the top of the hill taunting the army. Rotenanko's bad side came out during the journey, he decided that he had a demon and a god in him, the beast and the peacemaker. The peacemaker was normally Rotenako’s pilot relaxed, calm and prepared to listen and think over every problem that arose. He had a distaste for battle and that’s when he moved for the beast, he was just as smart as the peacemaker but with him it seemed to be more fluid. Rotenanko was aware when the beast came over him it was like he was watching the battle away like he was watching himself and he watched how without, hesitation without thought, his limbs flailing, his mouth screaming orders almost with a glance of an eye he could direct whole areas of a battle field. The beast was a seductive part of Rotenanko when he came out it was hard to put him away the beast would sometimes lose control his thirst never quenched the feeling that came with splitting the muscle away from organ the soft resistance the bones gave when his sword entered the body of another he could feel which way the bone shifted through his knuckles following the contours of the hilt of his sword. Or like a spear as he gripped it pulled it away from its owner and pulled its owner into where he could disembowel them quick enough for the same pour soul look him in the eye and call him every name under the sun.
This beast let him get distracted by this group of men. It would be simple encircle these men and stick them with each javelin his men carried not a single sword was raised. The beast finished things off by his usual hunt he liked the chase it was the best part of battle the reward for concentrating so hard on wining. His sword was his mouth it sunk in deep and took what it needed from each man, sometimes a head, sometimes the spine, sometimes the lungs or the abdomen. While the beast was in control the peacemaker was unable to evaluate what was happening. The beast would leave in a violent fit draining Rotenako of his strength for 10minutes obviously it was quite clear as the peace maker came back that the whole thing was a diversion. https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h...aRearguard.jpg
The army did not want to go into a one on one battle again and Lusotannan could not afford to lose so many men. The plan was to starve the Arevaci into desperation Chasing the small group of men harassing his army let another group steal his supplies the men were desperate not to fight though half of the supplies had gone and it would seem the fort could hold out for Two years.A year and a half later it was too much some of the workers who had help to carry the equipment had https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h...antiaSiege.jpgvanished.https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h...iaStarving.jpg
https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h...attlestart.jpg
The call to battle was blown the men groaned weakened by hunger. Rotenanko split the army in half attacking from two sides he thought he perhaps split the defenders in half and proceed to crush them. Harder in practice then in theory the usual javelin throwing competitions began wherever a hole in the wall was made men rushed to fill it and where then brought down by the rainstorm of javelins. Entering the settlement the army that Rotenanko commanded had faired quite well in destroying resistance in the eastern gateway. https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h...ntiaArmies.jpg
https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h...iaSkirmish.jpg
To the south along where the second army entered, fighting had proved fierce the majority of the Arevaci had headed into the fight there and stemmed the flow of troops inside the city. It would be the most active part of the battle around them minor skirmishes broke out as Rotenako's men took the eastern gateway the southern one was under Lusotannan control but the sheer weight of numbers of the enemy meant it would quickly fall. As the skirmishes ended more and more men were drawn into the fight hemmed in the between a major household and the stockade wall Rotenanko frantically searched for the Enemy leader his name was Avaros a capable leader like Moskon but older so his raiding days were long over the fighting went on for nearly another hour many Lusotannan fleeing in the face of staunch resistance.https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h...pinneddown.jpg
The hunt for Avaros proved to be quite demanding of Rotenako's time he was not with the main force fighting at the southeastern section of the wall. There his second army was cut off and quickly falling the battle became confusing in the centre was Lusotannan surrounded by Arevaci they were surrounded by more Lusotannan in turn more Arevaci had them surrounded while a section of Arevaci spearmen stood 20 yards away forming a wall and stopping the fresh Lusotannan fighters from the eastern gateway. Most of the settlement was under Lusotannan control the centre was held but the majority of the Arevaci army was destroying the second army. Finally Avaros had been found in the confusion many of his own bodyguard were slain a small force now protected him they were all cut down by javelin fire. Avaros was now on his own but still shouting orders and keeping the men’s nerves together more skirmishing had broken out in the centre as units came forth seemingly form nowhere wearing down the first army. Avaros’s horse was fast and was hard to catch but once committed to battle the old man feel easily Rotenanko was disappointed Moskon had fallen like a true warrior in glory Avaros was simply speared from his horse by a member of the army glory for that soldier would perhaps promote him to better things and it certainly helped swing the battle. The battle at the walls still went on Rotenanko was helpless he could not commit to such close quarter fighting it would be suicide. Lusotannan units began to link up and co-ordinate attacks and the final flames of the Arevaci army was extinguished. https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h...aBattleWon.jpg
Then Rotenanko and his men began to notice some horrifying elements of the fight that had gone on un-noticed as the fight went on upon finding their dead husbands women had killed their own children and began ritually killing themselves the men were going out of their wits trying to stop the mass suicides after two hours things where calmed when the highest commanding Arevaci man named Burzu cooled the slaughter
The beast had never managed to make himself known during the siege of Numantia the peacemaker was too busy trying to keep order it was confusing battle between the streets and the fighting he could not make out what was going on if it wasn’t for his force or captains and runners they proved exception and he was best please with there contribution in the fight he relived them of there duties and sent them back to the various parts of Lusotannan where they hailed from. They were the older generation Rotenanko had a young army with him and sending the experienced captains away was a mistake during the next 2 years of negotiation with the Arevaci men led by Burzu the situation fluctuated until one night almost 2 years to the day. While talking about the redistribution of the wealth using his Grandfathers theory, which the nobles of course detested but the poor and downtrodden workers and slaves thought could work well. During this discussion wailing started to be heard it got louder. Rotenanko shuddered at the sound it was like Gader and Mastia all over aging it was a terrible scene of women disemboweling themselves at the prospect of a Lusotannan ruler. Then it got dark men where shouting “COME OUT IT’S A TERRIBLE OMEN!” Towards the sky the sun began to fade as if something was eating at it the light was fading and it became darker still the sun was now gone and shadow came across the land then flash as the disc of the sky was black but surrounded by burning fires many of the onlookers screamed in pain as the fires burnt there eyes. The wailing was ferocious and chaos had broken out
”BY THE WILL OF THE GODS WE HAVE FORSKAEN THEM THE SUN HAS FAILED WE CANNOT GROW OUR CROPS”
”ROTENATO HAS CONDEMMED US ALL”
With that the suicides started “God Dammed Arevaci women there men must have been the best lovers in the world hahahah”
” Audanecan please this is hardly the time”
Men began to flee Rotenanko held his army steady some of them left after a few minutes the sun came back it was a scary moment but the Peacemaker stood firm this time the women stopped as order returned yet Burzu had gone disappeared with many other people. Two days later The settlement awoke to the sound of the war drum soon the wailing started again even Rotenanko became annoyed “SHUT UPPPP….these women’s love for there tribe is admirable but they may feel my wrath personally”
Looking out beyond the fort towards the holy site an army stood more men from the hills the same men who had fled when the Lugos had been reborn spurred on to retake the Fort this would be the last stand of the Arevaci. Rallying the Troops Rotenako eased the men’s minds The Lusotannan army easily outnumbered the last of the Arevaci they were nervous shuffling back and forth as Rotenako’s men drew closer.https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h...mantiaLast.jpg
After the javelins were thrown the charge began and the Arevaci men fought for a while a noble last stand but a foolish one. Rotenanko looked behind he could see the yet more of the Arevaci women throwing themselves off the stop of the stockade onto the stakes below Rotenanko was disgusted the last 8 years he had seen so much death The mass suicides drove him over the edge as he watched the final fighters surrounded and cut down the men he saw their women throw their lives away rather then be subservient to the Lusotannan the real problem was that Rotenanko wanted the Arevaci on side so much he was prepared to admit them full rights knowing the possible repercussions with the other tribes.
He had personally helped to clear the bodies. The last body was of a young woman she had impaled herself on a stake at the bottom of the wall as he began to pull at her corpse the entrails of her stomach began to fall out onto his feet as he looked down he saw a terrible sight the body of a small unborn infant lay at his feet perfectly form she must have been close to birth he picked up the child and moved to the shrine in the city burring the infant he began to cry a small Arevaci child stood there looking at him she was there praying for her family no doubt wiping the tears away he softly said “where is your father and mother?” in an equal tone she said “my father was killed 2 years ago in a battle with you, my auntie killed my mother when the sun died”
”come with me I will be your father now I will teach you how to fight and question everything in this world when you grow old you can teach the answers to your grandchildren something my grandfather did to me”
Renouncing Violence he vowed he would never fight an aggressive war again he had achieved the dream and had reunited Iberia under a single banner. This was not the celebration he expected the young king began a massive building programme all over the kingdom people prospered trade increased and more of the world was uncovered the region of the distant Greeks was mapped many different types existed these were all the former people of Megas Alexandros the Great conqueror of the eastern world he hoped that he would not die young like Alexandros and leave his kingdom in civil war. So much had been achieved in 35 years.
