Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
It has already been asked for, but here's the long awaited August screenshot competition submission thread! Now where are those award winning screenshots?
The rules again:
- Every fan can participate but can only submit one screenshot every month.
- Full screens, only the UI is allowed to be cropped out.
-You are allowed to edit them with photoshop, it is however not a requirement.
- All images must come from EB.
-All screenshots must be send in before the last week of the month in this thread.
Now how will we choose the winner? Well the EB-team will elect the 10 best (if the amount of submissions require it). A poll will be opened the last week of the month, in which the fans can cast their vote. The winner will be the one who got the most votes. The poll will close the last day of the month. The next day submissions for the next month can be made in a new thread.
Good luck and best wishes,
-The EB Team.
note: all screens must be in before the 24th of August!

Here is mine: Sunset Slaughter

You be the judge as to who is getting slaughtered. The Romani in the foreground are partly surrounded, though the Romani unit in the distance is about to throw a shower of Pilae upon my Hysteroi Pezhetairoi...slightly countered by my archers firing from behind the screen :juggle2:

That's a nice shot, there! :2thumbsup:

AW: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
How do the Triballoi perform against the Legionaries? How far are you into your campaign as you managed to encounter Marians?
-
Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
I think that is a custom battle, since polybian reforms under the AI seems very rare indeed.
:2thumbsup:
but hey! maybe he's a lucky one.
-
Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
That was a custom battle. The triballoi dont do half bad...moderately effective against the legionaries. also the last unit to rout.
-
Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
Those Thracians are a tough bunch of guys arent they? :laugh4:
-
Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
Indeed. My Greek and celtic units routed first. The triballoi routed last, and i had a thracian peltast unit that routed 4 times in that battle and still wanted to come back and kick some butt.

Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
:shocked3:
2 questions:
1. Whats the magnificent city in the far distance barely visible in the morning mist? :laugh4:
2. How do you get the enemy AI to actually attack your Phalanx head on, or is it just because you were defending the town?
-
Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
Simple: take your time to arrange your troops so they face the AI's head to head...
EDIT: If you're an experienced Successor player that shouldn't be too hard to do. Just some trial and error - and a bit of micromanagement regarding formation cohesion etc.
-
Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
Done and failed, All they do is rotate, and as I've state before, they only turn and turn and turn until we are doing a pointless circular dance that the God's laugh at. :inquisitive:

I never move much at all. Best is to stay were you are if possible. Give the AI time to arrange their troops. Slowly march towards them, don't click attack, just ram them head on. And you have to micromanage. Generally I hate sallying forth battles because it's such a strain to get all the units out and arrange them...

I actually leave the city through the back gate, furthest from where the enemy is, so that I can deploy quitely and then move and face them in the open. But agreed, it's a nuisance.
-
Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
I've never been attacked by the AI when marching out of the front gate. In fact, they tend to withdraw and line up far away from the gate. Why do you choose the back gate?
-
Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
u know- i should have read the rules for the last competition- i cropped out the sides of my better screen, so i did this one instead:

If they don't withdraw far enough and they have slingers, for instance. Secondly, like you said, they withdraw, usually to the left or right, so that to face them properly I either need to make an unwieldy turn close to the walls, or march forward and expose my flanks. This may be due to the fact that I prefer wide battle lines, though.
This don't count for big cities, actually. I was thinking mainly of forts.

Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
I really like Sunset Slaughter! Wondering what sort of filter you apply on the screeny before publishing it Megas Pyrrhos :2thumbsup:
-
Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
Another reason why one should play the Pahlava :2thumbsup:
-
Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
really.... whats the reason? o wait...... i know. but arent the units in the picture AS units?
-
Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
The ones in the foreground are the Zradha Pahlavans, a Pahlava unique, while the ones in the background are probably AS Prodromoi.

I used photoshop 7.0, and used auto level, then auto color, then auto contrast. Also, and i dont remember exactly, but I may of brightened certain parts of the picture using different layers and their various opaque levels :shame:

I used RTW's movie editor.
I can PM you if you don't know how to use it :sweatdrop:

thanks for that blank, but also no thanks for beating everyone with that shot of yours!:inquisitive:

Hello.
This being my first post, i want to introduce myself:
I am name, I own all of the Total War games, prefer playing EB.
Some people might know me as "segfaulthunter" at twc.
I wanted to post an edited screenshot I did, but it told me

AW: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
Definetely looks as if I've got to get used to some photoshopping techniques rather sooner than later.
-
Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
name: Which one would you like to enter as you submission? As you can only enter one each month.
-
Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
-
Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
At this rate of blatantly obvious (though by doing so amazing) use of sweet lighting and contrast effects in the submissions, those of us that don't use them probably can't win...guess next time I'll need to really mess with my photo's.
P.S.: I like that second one better than the first, name.
-
Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
im starting to think that we should start to ban using photo-editing programs for the contest to give the guys without cool photo-editing programs a chance. :soapbox:

Don´t weep, just get yourself G(NU)I(mage)M(anipulation)P(rogram) from http://gimp.org, it is free of charge and open source.
-
Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
I don't think its necessary to ban lighting effects. The fancy lighting shots have not won more than half of the contests I think, and if we did an all-star game I'd wager several of the top finishers would be lightly altered at most (and that includes one of your earlier shots, Pyrrhos).
-
Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
I'd edit my post and get rid of the 1st picture if I were you, name (just a suggestion, so your choice is clear to everyone).
hooahguy14, maybe we should have an "edited" and a "not edited" category?
-
Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
i like that idea! can we do have that? :rtwyes: :2thumbsup:
-
Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
-
Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
darn. and just to clarify, why not?
-
Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
Because it doesn't really matter statistically. I don't think any majorly altered image has won any contest yet.
-

We don't want fair competitions, we want them cool screenies.
EDIT: hooahguy14, it's worth ten times more turning of banners and green arrows than photoshopping your screens. I, for one, preferred the first version of your submission.

True words ;)
Anyway I've done some variations of my images in the upper post, tell me which one you like best ;)
-
Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
LOL you're meant to submit 1 image per month and leave the "which one do you like?" phase to the voting ;)
Nevertheless, I'd go for the second one of the three.

Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
I know this has probably been asked a thousand times before, but can someone be a kind soul and tell me how to actually capture a battle picture?

Just press the "Print Scrn" button on your keyboard during a battle. In your RTW folder exists a subfolder named TGAS. This is where your screenies get saved.
You need another program to convert the TGA fily types to another image type such as JPG. Irfanview is one such program. You can do a Google search with the name and download it. It's free software available to all.
Sometimes the screenies show up blank (white). If that's the case their is usually a conflict with your AA (Anti-Aliasing) settings in the Graphic options. Just disable the AA and they should show up normally.
Another way to take screenies is to use a program called FRAPS. That too is free software. Download both and use the one your more comfortable with.
-
Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
Cheers friend :2thumbsup:
-
Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
One can also hit the "Print Screen" button, and then go into a program, like the basic Microsoft Paint program that comes with nearly all systems, and go to Edit --> Paste. Whatever last picture that was taken using this button will be pasted into the paint program, which then can be converted into .bmp or .jpeg or w/e.
Simple and quick, I use it then go to my photoshop and mess with them later.
P.S. I do use simple lighting effects, but I do it to make pictures look life-like...and some of the heavily modified pictures here do look pretty cool...Megalos, I'm thinking of you :2thumbsup: .

Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
Is it just me or is there a demonic face in the upper right hand corner of "the crossing" on the first page. Was that intentional? Or am I seeing things. Very cool, even if it wasn't intentional.
-
Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
Can't see a demonic head can you tell who posted the pic so it would be easier to find it
-
Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
It was posted by blank on the first page. It is entitled the Crossing. Now that I look at it, it's more human than demonic. I still see a face in the right hand corner, near the horses head. Maybe it's just a coincidence.
-
AW: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
It's page #3 and definetely an X-file. Or just Harry Potter.
-
Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
The Crossing is actually on page 1.
It took a while to find the head, but it does look like a guy screaming. It is though most likely a coincidence.

Re: Screenshot of the month submission thread (august)
Here is mine, it is called:
"You shall not pass!"

ps. If it takes too long to load, I could make it a jpg and compress it a little.

Damnit you might be right... maybe some moderator could make a decision about this, as I can but really don't want to edit the picture so the genital areas would be blurred, being the lazy sod I am and what Kahju said holds also true.

Are you SERIOUS? Really, even bringing it up like it may or ought to be a problem, when those dudes are that far away in the picture, is contemptible.
That is ridiculous. Go find something else better to complain about.
