Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
Alright, here we go!
The rules again:
- Every fan can participate but can only submit one screenshot every month.
- Full screens, only the UI is allowed to be cropped out.
-You are allowed to edit them with photoshop, it is however not a requirement.
- All images must come from EB.
-All screenshots must be send in before the last week of the month in this thread.
Now how will we choose the winner? Well the EB-team will elect the 10 best (if the amount of submissions require it). A poll will be opened the last week of the month, in which the fans can cast their vote. The winner will be the one who got the most votes. The poll will close the last day of the month. The next day submissions for the next month can be made in a new thread.
Good luck and best wishes,
-The EB Team.
note: all screens must be in before the 23th of September!

Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
If you could get that screenshot with a more varied army ahead and a little closer to the walls (and firing artillery/archers?), it would be perfect.
-
Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
its supposed to be a barbarian horde. not much variety in those, eh? :2thumbsup:
and having archers on the walls kinda defeats how dramatic its supposed to be. its supposed to seem like these poor (almost) defenseless militia soldiers are up against a horde of barbarians.
-
Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
Bah, not much variety? There's tons of different types of units in northern Europe.
And I meant archers below.
-
Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
i knew wat you meant. anyhow, im pretty busy and cant really be bothered to redoe it all over again. to much of a pain.
-
Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
It should be better for some people to have a screenshot of the week competition:clown:

I was going to edit this picture, but whatever I did to it, it always ended up looking worse. I think this is one of those rare shots that are perfect without any modifications.
And yes, those are real.
...the glare spots I mean. :inquisitive:

"An Encounter, of the Thraikian Kind"

The Romani invaded my thraikian possesions, and this army was their scouting force to head up their endless stacks. They were met with extreme prejudice.
Nice shot Fanatic, I also did little to editing to mine (minus taking out the big banners), as doing anything else seemed to make it less than it really is.

Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
Some very nice ones already. This could turn out to be another fantastic month.

Love those eyes peeking above the grassline. Is indeed nearly perfect.

Are there supposed to be arrows flying around in that, or are they getting ready to fire? It's difficult to see for sure.

Another fantastic Pahlava shot from Blank. I really like the style from "The Crossing".
In fact all contributions this far are great, especially "Steady Lads!" which really has a nice timing and feel to it.

Indeed. I love that style, it looks as if there is steam coming up from the river. I'd be interested to see how you create that effect, Blank. Do you use Adobe P-Shop?
Kamp, are those SB cav?

well i was hoping to have a better pic but all my screenies were blank after i took them so i got FRAPS...
It's always satisfying to have 10 units of hellenic heavy spearmen and galatians throw javelins at one unit who has snuck out too far.

Even if I dont know what SB cav should be, I´ll try to answer:
This shot shows a bunch of pahlavan Grivpanvar (the tank-horses), captured due my work on a EB video.

Cool. SB cav = Sacred Band cav btw, I just cannot spell their Punic name.:sweatdrop:

Although I really don't see how unedited pics will ever stand a chance against edited ones. Us who lack photoshop knowledge are doomed to never win until they start to have two categories.:shame:
@Blank
Another amazing entry!
-
Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
Well..... I tend to prefer un-edited pics because I can "see" what a is going on.
Still.... some edited ones are nice. Other, not so.

Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
Nice one Centurio, and btw editing it further would probably just make it look weird, or not be able to tell that there is a shower of javelins being given to one of the phalanxes.
-
Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
Centurio, I can't wait to get the next EB out to you...I'll expect some nice pike shots featuring some nice little surprises worked up for y'all by SoR.
-
Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
Folks, there are no seperate categories.
There's no need to, most screenshot competition winners were unedited or non edited screens. An edited screen can only win if it was already a great screenshot before the editing. The editing might help though, but the original screenchots (the angle, view, idea of size,...) still is the most important factor.

(Click on the picture for a bigger version. Imageshack makes the picture smaller, and junsele [another upload site, if you're wondering] won't show in the thread using the basic IMG tags. I know no other sites except one that's usually better than both IMO, but it seems to be down.)

Are you sure? It seems to be pixellated on my screen when in full size.

Wow, thanks. But I'm afraid I don't know what u mean by low resolution. How is it different than any other picture? Is there any way I can fix it?

Thank you, that sounds very nice. Unfortunately I won't change my EB-build mid-campaign because I think it won't be savegame-compatible. And when I'm done with Makedonia I will most likely not immediately start another Mak-campaign again... I'll try something like Carthage then, or Rome, or Lusitania. Maybe another Mak-campaign in EB2. I'd love to have all those sweet Rhompaiaphoroi and Lonchophoroi.~:0

To get the best out of your screenshots, make sure you use the highest graphics settings, especially "unit details", when capturing the picture. Also high anti-aliasing or higher resolution is a priority. If you look at your shot, the Macedonian banner is very pixellated, with rough edges, where as if you look at the Mac banner in my shot, the edges are as smooth as a... well, you get the point. That's the power of 8X anti-aliasing.
-
Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
I see. Well, all my graphics settings were maxed out, and as far as I can tell it's impossible to edit anti-aliasing (the tab in video options is greyed out) and I left resolution at what it was.
Thank you for your gracious help though, Thaatu. I will remember it in the future.

Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
some very nice screenshots
I'm thinking of maybe buying RTW, not sure if I should get the expansions as well, as am not sure if they are any good?
But the thing that would really drive me to buying RTW is the Europa Barbarorum mod, as it looks excellent. I looked at the official website, and installing it seems to be quite simple, so hopefully that's the case.
Although I'm not sure how far the team is in developing EB2, and am not sure if that would be better, or would be best to get RTW anyway. (I've currently got MTW Gold (with Viking Invasion) & M2TW
I'm very interested in this era as well, and some of the tribes too.
-
Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
RTW is a good investment, and cheap, BI shouldnt be too expensive either you should grab that too, but the Alexander campaign i hear is a waste.
-
Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
For the immediate future playing EB, buying RTW (and possibly BI) is a better bet than waiting for EB2. It will take quite some time to migrate.
-
Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
thanks for the info
I'd at least def. want to get Barbarian Invasion expansion, I actually saw in Game (UK Shop) they have in a local store Rome: Total War Anthology (all three) for £17.99 so might end up getting that
As I haven't played RTW, and haven't read too much, I'm not sure how similiar / different EB is for example to BI, but it does seem to have many playable factions.
-
Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
RTW is a great game regardless, and EB adds a whole lot to make it far better. And it's definitely available on the cheap; I think I've seen it and the two expansion packs on sale here for fifteen euros for all three.
-
Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
May I ask what anti-aliasing actually is?:dizzy2:
-
Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
i dunno what it exactly is, but im pretty sure it makes the game have a smoother look... no stairway lines......
-
Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
nice, looks like it's very likely I'll be buying the game
-

In digital signal processing, anti-aliasing is the technique of minimizing the distortion artifacts known as aliasing when representing a high-resolution signal at a lower resolution. Anti-aliasing is used in digital photography, computer graphics, digital audio, and many other domains.
I found it scary that I can understand the english article at wikipedia better than the german one....

Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
Currently I'm downloading the EB Mod (081aFinalv2)
and afterwards will download Patch 1.3 and 1.5 for RTW (not sure which version the anthology version comes patched as)
Reminds me the time (recently) before I bought M2TW, I downloaded the 1.2 patch so I didn't have to wait as long to play it 'up to date'
-
Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
I'd assume that it would be at 1.5/1.6, seeing as it's the 'final' version, as it were.
If not, however - and you can check by running the game and looking at Options, I believe - then install patches first, and then install EB.
-
Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
ah OK
that's good
I just hope the mod will work, as I really want to play it
it's also the first Total War Mod I'm going to have as well
-
Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
OK, also go here and download the permanent fixes to 0.81av2 after you download and install it.
-
Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
thanks
arghh I didn't know I had to download all those files too
quite confused, as I thought what I'm downloading now is the final version, but I guess there are some errors people get.
I'd also need to get a new zip programme, as I can't open 7-zip formats.
-
Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
You need WinRAR I believe, and you just need R:TW 1.5 (you can have BI and Alex if you want); then instal EB 0.81av2 and then install the permanent fixes.
Then you're good to go!
-
Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
ah OK
thanks
just downloaded those 2 perm fixes too
-
Re: This is my: "Duke Nukem in EB"

oh sorry :embarassed:
I deleted the top of the pic as it was in replay mode (so took out the 'player' and the numbers'
so that's why it's less of a height
hope it's not a problem
-
Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
no, i meant in width.....
-
Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
oh that's weird
I remember when I cropped the image (to take out the replay player at the top) I didn't affect the width
I think it's OK? or maybe somethings wrong, not sure
the original screenshot from the game looked like this:
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...smissilesj.jpg
-
Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
The replay player is the UI in this picture, so the cropping is just fine.
-
Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
The replay UI can be hidden by pressing some button. It could have been "space" but I'm not too sure. I've played around with movie cam only once and it was a while ago so it's understandable that I don't remember anymore.
-
Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
ah OK
next time I'll take a screenshot, I'll try to find out what that button is, so I don't have to crop the top bit.
-
Re: Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (September)
Anyhow I do not think it's going to be much of a problem; AFAIK the rule is to make sure we do not get to vote on post-stampe pics. ~;)
