Screenshot of the Month Submission Thread (October)

Alright, here we go!

The rules again:
- Every fan can participate but can only submit one screenshot every month.
- Full screens, only the UI is allowed to be cropped out.
-You are allowed to edit them with photoshop, it is however not a requirement.
- All images must come from EB.
-All screenshots must be send in before the last week of the month in this thread.

Now how will we choose the winner? Well the EB-team will elect the 10 best (if the amount of submissions require it). A poll will be opened the last week of the month, in which the fans can cast their vote. The winner will be the one who got the most votes. The poll will close the last day of the month. The next day submissions for the next month can be made in a new thread.

@TA: Have you made the sig banner for the winner of last month yet?

If we have minimal UI activated, I believe it will make a picture that isn't full screen, because we have to crop out the map in the upper right hand corner (I wish there was a way to make it slide like in M2:TW).

Is this slightly skinnier picture acceptable, or should I turn on normal UI for the competition?

I concur with the no-photoshoping plee. It generally just ruins an otherwise decent screenshot. There are, of course, exceptions, but some people just take it too far.

fyi: the KH cavarly pushed through them to get to my cavarly, and this fellar happen to "catch some air" during the whole thing.

Which is a shame, since I really dislike extensive photoshopping of entries and have seen plenty which would have been fine without, or even poor. It's meant to provide screenshots for the EB site, where I'd have thought it'd be out of place. It'd be nice to see a rule against photoshopping.

Another one, all natural for you photoshop haters out there. If I really wanted to win, I'd be doing something else. Like playing ping pong, or maybe golf.

That is a great shot! And the morning sun looks amazing glinting off the armor.

Ah, and the Baktrian cavalry is there in the distance too! Awesome.

Some very nice shots so far. TwFanatic´s is the best so far imho, very atmospheric and not overly photoshoped.


Btw, where does Antiochos Megas come from? Is it a refencere to the old persian "great king"?

Megas is the Greek adjective for great.

Megas Alexandros - Alexander the Great or The Great Alexander

I think Mithradates IV of Pontos actually gained the epithet as well.

My favourite by far. I tested that battle once; first thing I did was racing towards my Argyraspides for cover from the Baktrian horde! --Then I quit the battle 'cause I was basically testing if the battle would load after abou had fixed something.

My first screen. edit: I found a bit better screen from that session, this one has only 2 ps little changes...

I would swear that some screenshots look like "paint by number". It really detracts from the excellent work done painstakingly by our talented modders.

A slight change in hue can really add to a picture, but otherwise I have to agree that the overdone screenshot pics, while artistically interesting, don't often add any to the beauty of a good screenshot.

My two favourites are Antiochus Megas At River Arius (207 BCE) and Ephesus captured!.

I agree. Nevertheless, I submit a heavily modded screen shot because those are the only ones that ever win. And until separate categories are created, I will continue to do so.

Nice one Charge, though the odd light in the middle of the image kinda kills it...I don't understand how it's supposed to fit into the grand scheme of the pic. Though it does look like you used one of the lighting effects in P-Shop to cause that.

eee... yes. I was thinking about it, and now sure this peace of light needs to be on a chief' sword ~:handball: or off...
Though anyway incorrect lighting was in game, and I didn't changed it. :whip:

I wonder why RTW made their general's hold their swords so rigidly.

I think they should have 2 competitions.

One for UNALTERED Screens and one for ALTERED screens.

Otherwise, what we are having right now is like a boxing match between a "feather weight" vs a "heavy weight".

excellent screenshots voting this month is going to be really tough

Seen a couple I really like, by Kampfkrebs, Thaatu, and Charge. Question about the last one, have those building textures been changed? I don't remember that much colour.

I'm guessing from the title it is the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus. And I must say Charge, that is one amazing screenshot. :2thumbsup:

Awesome!! As far as my opinion goes. Charge's picture is simply THE BEST picture I have ever seen in RTW. Mind-boggling would be the right description for the picture. Congratulations man! :)

You guys forced me to learn more about photoshop....I already knew about layers and levels and all of that crap, but I've been delving deeper into the program, since unedited shots never win.

This month, I'll take it to the other extreme, and use a highly edited pic...I don't have 1.0 yet, so this is from my final Sabyn Campaign...I might edit it out after I get 1.0, but I think it's kind of cool. :yes:

YES YES i really agree! i am tired of photshoped screens only winning......

People can send them in anyway, but using photoshop to create faux-impressionist paintings just doesn't work for me. Enhancing the picture is fine as long as it doesn't take attention away from the pic as a whole.

I kinda think I'd like Blank's better without the photoshop work, and without the banners. I'm a sucker for the (at least mainly) untouched, epic shots of guys like Thaatu and Megas Pyrrhos. I feel like Justiciar, when he's around, usually submits nice shots of close combat, and good Celtic shots. I still think the Capital One shot should've won that month.

I have to apologize for the arrow but there was no unit standing behind the 'camara' all were either left or right.

I think I should post a example of how to take good screenshot.

1. Open preferences.txt and change TGA_CAPTURE_WIDTH:1024 to 1280;
2. Add to the shortcut parameter -movie_cam;
3. Launch game, play custom battle, save replay, load it;
4. Using movie-cam controls (num pad) and pause get view you want, press space and num lock to eliminate ui!;
5. Set all graphic options to Highest, except anti-aliasing (it will give black shot);
6. Take screenshot;
7. If you want, edit it in photoshop, + save in .jpg;
8. Upload to imageshack, and copy "direct link" line;
9. Post here, [IMG]link[/IMG]. That's it! Wait for a poll...

I use anti-aliasing x4 (or is it x8?), just use FRAPS to take the shot.

I can't use anti-aliasing. It's "greyed out.":no:

God bless. Justiciar isn't "around" at the moment, because he can't be bothered to install RTW for the umpteenth time. Alas, he wants to play EB 1.0! 'tis a conundrum. :no:

but there's always an umpteenth and umpteenth plus oneth time to install RTW to play EB! that said, I fully appreciate your conundrum, since i actually have 1.0 installed, but never get a good opportunity to play.

It's against the Arverni. Mori Gaesum in phalanx formation in the middle with sotaroas in a loose formation in front of them. To the left and right of the Mori Gaesum are Gaelache. The Arverni left, is made up of one unit of Neitos and Arjos each - even though you can't tell from the picture. A little behind them, and further away and even more unrecognizable, is a unit of Leuce Epos. Brihentin behind the Mori Gaesum in the center. Behind the Gaelache stationed to the left of the Mori Gaesum is a unit of Botroas. To their left in a loose formation is a unit of Iaosatae.

The Arverni right wing, which can't be seen in the picture, consists of a unit of Bagaudas, Gaesatae and those Alpine Shortswordsmen. Behind them a unit of Noricene Gaecori, Solduros (partly behind the Gaelache) and at the very flank one unit of Remi Mairepos. That's all, IIRC. It was a fun battle, yes. ~:)
