That being said, how many times have you blacked out?
I was just talking to my Korean suitmate who made me laugh by saying people blacking out in their teens in Korea is quite common. He even woke up in the middle of a road once! :laugh4:
I honestly can't say I've ever blacked out. Passed out, sure. Thrown up, sure. Not blacked out though.
Same here Ice, never drank that much.
Oh, and a Korean saying he blacked out is just cliché. Did he say how much, give or take, he had to drink that particular day ?

I've had nights after which I've woken up and been a little hazy about the details-the worst being when I couldn't remember if I'd slept with someone I woke up next to, got out of there pretty fast-but I've never had the complete absence of recall that the term black-out implies.

Never. Not even this one time me and a buddy were walking through the streets carrying two crates of beer and finished both of them quickly plus some more heavier liquor. I was fresh enough -- composed, logical and mentally in control -- to even engage a non-alcoholic person in debate and defeat him. I wish only a cop had engaged us, for I would've used my logic and persuasion to convince him he was out of order even though he was a policeman ding his job :laugh4:
Alcohol wise, no - drunkenness doesn't appeal to me, although being mildly tipsy, as in three/four glasses of wine, is something which does. This is especially useful at parties where I need it to actually show my relaxed side - I'm typically a bit of a dull person when sober :sad2:

Really can't see the point in drinking, tbh. Just because it is legall makes it no better than illiegal drugs. You should be sufficently mature and self aware to amuse yourself and others without needing to blur your brain to do so.
TBH, I doubt I will ever drink, except maybe at a funeral or the like out of respect for others. I probably wouldn't say this IRL, but the reason why I will never drink is becuase I am frightened of it. I have gone through 18 years of life with my brain being pretty much my one and only asset (I am not physicaly stong or tall), and so far it seems to me that I am more intellegent than most (arogance I know, but...), why would I want to loose this, in exchange for what?
Respect? Very definately not nessecary. All of my over age friends drink, some quite alot, and whatever people say about being the only sober one is not true. Its great fun the next day when you sneak up and shout in their ear.:laugh4: Also of course it is fun to be the only one who not only didn't do anything stupid, but remembers all the stupid things other people did. A beer once in a while isn't all that bad. If you truly are that intelligent as you claim, a few beers now and then won't hurt you much. Of course, do it at your own risk, if you do it.
What I'm gonna say is personal and private, but at the moment I don't really give a **** 'cause I'm making a point I want you to understand. I remember I was able to multitask a lot, having many difficult intensive threads processed by the brain, lots of creativity and intellect, lots of speed of processing, all the different parts of the brain perfectly in connection and optimal (creativity, rationality, emotion, etc.) etc., but you know... At some point I drank a lot, and whaddaya know, it remained there. If you think alcohol is going to damage you that badly, think again. A few beers here and there ain't bad for you, in fact a beer might stimulate you. You know what's going to damage you? Aging, (negative) emotions, serious accidents, bad education institutes, and the likes, not a few beers now and then. Of course if you can't handle alcohol, then stay away from it or learn to handle it.

EDIT: I forgot to add, women might damage you too. They are the most hazardous creatures existing (if you are vulnerable that is). It is generally more predictable to fight off a bear or a lion 'cause you know all the possibilities. With women you gotta be in control and know exactly what you're doing and what she's thinking.

Doing stupid stuff is part of the human experience! Like that time I played bloody knuckles (sober), or when I grabbed that burning stick that somehow ended up ten to twenty feet away from my fire last week and ran it back to the fire, after which I threw it back into the fire and it almost bounced back onto my shoes, or when later that night I put my hand in the fire to put that big log into it without throwing up sparks and setting a friend's afro on fire.Quote:

Never, I don't see the point in drinking so much I pass out, vomit or don't remember what happened. I drink to the point where I feel tipsy but I always stop myself drinking too much.
I always drink excessively (i don't drown my sorrows, i tie concrete blocks to their feet and throw them in the ocean) and have never passed out or vomited or any of that sort of thing. The worse thing that's happened is lying down looking at the sky, rolled over to see something only to roll straight onto some broken glass some idiot had been throwing about earlier - now i have a big 3-inch scar on left elbow. But then, i had also been smoking a bit of the 'wacky tobaccy' which also helped dull the pain.
Alright, then once is the number of times for that, too.
Interestingly enough, I've never vomited due to anything other than one bad case of sea-sickness.

The inability to move memory from short-term to long-term characterizes the syndrome. A black-outer may remember events of the past 10 minutes, but not of an hour, or day ago. Although the quantity and speed of alcohol drinking plays an important role, it's not the only factor, apparently. Some folks blackout quicker, for longer, and more frequently than others.
So you know what you're doing, sort of, but don't remember it afterwards?
Though I'd guess at that point you may not know what you're doing anyway. :laugh4:

I know I have been so drunk that I couldn't walk, but I remember every minute of it.
The last time, I remember clearly as glass. It was one of the many "wet" nights in the military and I was exeptionally drunk. We ordered a transport from our fort to come and get us and one of the female seargents in our party had a bottle of vodka which were passed around on the way back to the fort. I took a long and good gulp of this 60% pure alkohol and passed it on. Several rounds later we finally returned to the fort. I was in a state where I couldn't keep my legs under me and I had help reaching the barracks. In the hall I fell to the ground and couldn't get up. The aforementioned seargent had to carry me to my room, undress me and put me to bed. I remember she thought I was a heavy bastard but when she undressed me, she told me she would have taken advantage of me had I been more sober. Apparently she thought I was catatonic. But I still remember all of it. I remember I thought I would have taken advantage of her had I not been so damn sleepy. She kissed me goodnight and tucked me in. I thought that was a nice gesture and we became good friends later on (the platonic kind I might add).
I've had two complete blackouts (both on a cruise ship between Turku and Stockholm, where it's traditional to be wasted), and a few more hazy homecomings. Lots of times with my speech being utterly incomprehensible.
The first time I blacked out was my first experience with hard liquor (tequila). I was celebrating with a friend and he brought a bottle of tequila from the bartender and we were doing shots after shots.
The next thing I knew were a few hazy moments in the bathroom, bar floor, on the street, taxi and somehow, on my friend's bedroom floor.
My brother told me I tried to poison myself with 19 tequila shots and puked in my sleep in the bar. And I thought the stuff on my shirt was food...
Oh well, fun times, sweet sixteen.
Recently, another one happened in June this year. A guy just finished his army stint and was celebrating and yours truly was in a good mood and downed some martini, B52, vodka and some beer and alcohol.
Somehow I managed to get myself into a taxi where I passed out at the void deck of my flat. I only woke up around 5am after an hour of black out.

Well, I once drank lots of vodka and then some absinthe, at that point I had triple vision for a short time and that's when I stopped to drink some...milk on advice of some other students and some aspirin later on, next morning I felt quite fine.
Then last time I was drunk I drank a lot of different stuff, started with one or two beers, then vodka redbull, followed by gin tonic, this strange stuff where you lick salt from your hand, then drink, then bite into an orange (I was way too slow and it tasted like ****, but then I just tried everything the barkeeper mentioned) etc. It hit a bit hard later on and I also stumbled in that club on the way from the toilet, found that utterly embarassing, gave the last drink back to the barkeeper and told him to throw it away. :sweatdrop:
Well he told me he wouldn't give me anything anymore anyway because he didn't want me to throw up.
That's about the worst I've come to, never threw up or such thing, once I felt bad after two beers, just stopped there. :shrug:

As I mentioned before: I am Bavarian and we have beer parties aka. Volksfeste....I do not mean the infamous Oktoberfest, as it is by now a very international event...btw....none of you guys and gals from Italy, NZ, England, US, Scotland etc past/blacked out in Munich [yet]...U r liars!:laugh4:
Back to our beer parties: I go to the "Gäubodenvolksfest" every year with my friends and we would drink a couple of beers there and...well, let us put it like this: "The whole damn town plus surrounding cities passes out there!". Well, it has to be in our Lower Bavarian blood....beer. Some people become idiots in other words aggressive , but most are fun to talk with & we have all ages from 16 - 99 years having a beer together. A vast majority of them just goes there to have a fun time. "U guys have Disneyland...We have the Gäubodenvolksfest".
I think to black out is more like the kind of coma you reach drinking a lot of hard liquor.....I do not like that . The hangover is a freaking hell-trip, at least in my age [33 yrs. and rising]. I try to avoid that.
Me beer...no blackout....just a straight and honest headache the next morning as one deserves being a bit nasty to your health.....Beer is a pretty honest drug!~:cheers:
Voted 0, but after reading the replies it might have been 1. During the last night of the introductionary period of the university we saw the sun rise and went back to the faculty. There I looked for a toilet only to be become awake on a different floor and my friends telling me that I had been sleeping on a table and fell of with a loud crash. I don't know wether I had drunk too much or was simply too tired though. During the following cantus I thought it was safer to ask for orangejuice.. I am happy to know my limits now.

I've had a few blackouts. One fever-related when I was 9 (my parents had to carry me out of the bead and give me a cold shower, didn't remember a thing) and a few alcohol related (way too young to drink, plus I'm pretty skinny).
First alcohol-related one was probably the first time I really got drunk. I was 13 or 14. One second I was drinking beer and having fun, the next I wake up, feel sick and crawl to a ditch where I throw up. Someone kicked me into that ditch and tried to shave my mohawk off during the same night. Those were the days.
I had a quite good one this spring when I drank a little too much vodka. Apparently I was sitting on the bus home, puke all over my clothes, staring blankly in the air for ten minutes straight. When we got off, which I, of course, don't remember, I went to the subway to ask when the train home left, but I thought it would take too long, so I got really pissed at the conductor (or whatever you call those "ticket controllant-guys" in the booths), gave him the finger and took another bus home to a friend. Fell asleep while on the bus, which I had to wait for longer than the subway anyway, but remember what happened once I woke up (this was in May, so the sun was up by this time).
I've stuck to beer since, I just can't handle liquor.

I know of two times I blacked-out and all happened in my first two years at university in Ghent.
One was after a Cantus* where a few friends and I had a few drinks after the cantus itself. When I was riding home on my bicycle I heard a glass fall.
Apparently I had been steeling glasses from the bar but I was unaware of it, neither was my friend I rode with.
The other time I was drinking Tequila. Not much of a hard liqueur man, I wasn't aware that booze hits you suddenly instead of gradually like beer. One moment I was dancing, drinking and socializing; the next I was passionately kissing a girl in the hall. I lost everything in between but I'm quite sure I still remember the most important parts of that evening/night. After that we (that girl and me) became quite good friends which I'm glad about.
I never regretted blacking-out unlike that one time I got plain drunk. It where the 'Gravesteenfeesten'. Simply put it's a big party in Ghent for students where your ticket in is a beer glass of 1/2 l. Free dark beer for the rest of the evening. Never have I been as sick as that night. I probably puked all the way home (a 20 min bicycle ride). I always had a bucket or something similar next to my bed in case I had to puke in the middle of the night. When I woke up that morning my bed was very damp (I hoped it was sweat) and in my bucket there was a thin layer of a black substance. After that I couldn't drink dark beer for over 2 or 3 years.

Never blacked-out, but that be because there's never enough alcohol available to do so, only enough to get mildly drunk. And anyway its so much more fun drawing on my friends who have passed out.
Never through drinking. Have almost blacked out a few times through excercise but never totally.

Hazy about the details the next morning, probably 1/2 a dozen or so. An actual honest-to-God blackout? 4, maybe 5 times. On the last one, Mrs. Corleone told me that she would be invoking "till Death do us part" option on the contra ct to void it, so I've lighted up some since.
The most interesting (as in 10 years later and I'd still like to know wtf happened...) I woke up in Pittsburgh just after noon on a Sunday in a girl's dorm room. I had started out by drinking at a basketball game on Saturday afteroon. In Connecticut. 800 miles away. :dizzy2:
Reminds me of the story of some writer who started drinking in Paris one night and ended up in Sardinia the next morning without a clue of what happened in between. I wish I could remember who it was.

I think 4 or 5 is a stretch. I'm counting and I think 3 is the right number, and the last time something like that happened was 7 years ago. As for the girl in Pittsburgh, we didn't sleep together that night, I just crashed at her place. Apparently, I wasn't even acting drunk. The next day they all thought I was putting on an act. Uh, yeah, I'm just pullin your leg! :idea2:

Seeing as some of us have unknowingly talked, acted, charmed, ... our way into the favour of girls/boys during our black-out I must reach an interesting conclusion.
Keeping in mind the fact that the subject doesn't remember what he/she did during his/her black-out while a large percentage of those subjects can prove they won the favour of one or more girls/women during there black-out (waking up in her/his room, kissing her/him, ...). I must assume that there is an even higher percentage of subjects that can't prove that they won the favour of one of more girls/boys during there black-out.
As such, I can only reach one conclusion:
Blacking out makes a the subject an irresistible lust object, or at least very likeable.
P.S. I'm looking for volunteers to test this theory on.
Heh, I remember having the opinion that those who claimed to having blackouts were full of s**t.
It was just a charade to cover up that they had acted stupid. I based this reasoning on the belief that people acting out of character when drunk showed their true self. If they had sex with catatonic women, they were rapists. If they brawled, they were thugs etc.
I believed that to really get to know a person, you would would need to get that person exceptionally drunk. What came out of that person then would be their true nature.
I am trying to abort such beliefs, but it is hard.
By your reasoning then I would be a lazy, somewhat disturbed man with a disproportioned sex drive...

That may be somewhat true Sigurd and because I fear similar things I always try to maintain control over myself(then again, if I am in control over me, that's me isn't it?), I mean I don't know what I'd do once I lose control, two scenarios I find possible for myself:
1. Annoy a nice lady by blabbering and drooling around her either in emo "I never had a woman"-style or whatever else annoying I can come up with. :sweatdrop:
2. Deep down inside me I have my old bloodlust and maybe a lot of aggression locked up, I think, would be nice if it's not there anymore but if I'd open the lock being drunk, bad things may come out. :viking:

It's about computer games but the statement is rather general and true I think, except in the context the trailer uses it. :laugh4:
