If you had to move out of your Country
Just had to, where would you go? That is with the amount of money as a middle-class working person and no relatives anywhere else. Post where you live now and where you'd go.
I live in Australia, and probably move to New Zealand, Canada, or the UK. With the latter I'd probably go more to the southern point of England. I picked these because they'd be the most "new" to me... And they all speak fluent English + Canada has chicks that speak French. :smug2:
-
Re: If you had to move out of your Country
I live in Australia now and would probably move to Canda if it were my choice. I know a few interwebs-people in Canada and they all seem like nice enough blokes. I wouldn't mind it there, though it would be a bit cold.
-
Re: If you had to move out of your Country
Probably NZ because GF would love me for it. Kiwi chicks are odd.
-
Re: If you had to move out of your Country
Hmmm, tough call. The Netherlands could be a very interesting option because of the shared language. Maybe a Scandinavian country but then again why don't I go all out and name some sunny Island where i could open a Bed & Breakfast for the tourists.
-
Re: If you had to move out of your Country
I'd move to the UK so I wouldn't have to learn a new language. :inquisitive:
-
Re: If you had to move out of your Country
Top of my list would be Oz, NZ or Canada if I was feeling lazy, anywhere hispanohablante if I was feeling more adventurous... (I'd be leaving the UK, btw...)
-
Re: If you had to move out of your Country
The Netherlands (it's only 40 miles from here after all).
Or New Zealand, which is doing very well in this inquiry it seems.
-
Re: If you had to move out of your Country
I live in Germany*hints at flag in signature people seem to miss often* and would move to the United States of America. They wouldn't even have to force me, I consider to move there anyway. :2thumbsup:
-
Re: If you had to move out of your Country
Paris, that city fits me like a glove.
-
Re: If you had to move out of your Country
Though I love Italy, I couldn't live there I think, so perhaps I'll take my chances with the Dutch, or the axe-wielding Canadians...
-
Re: If you had to move out of your Country
If forced to move elsewhere, I'd probably move to Mexico. The political changes occurring there are especially interesting to me (it was my area of study in college) and I already speak Spanish.
-
Re: If you had to move out of your Country
New Hampshire. Or Maine. Loved it there, if I were to move anywhere it would be the US and the aforementioned states.

Greece could be a choice.
.
-
Re: If you had to move out of your Country
France
Italy
Nambia
Germany
Holland
-
Re: If you had to move out of your Country
Currently based in Belgium. I'd go Australia, USA or Canada. Actually Holland too.
If on expatriate salary I'd go anywhere in South East Asia.
-
Re: If you had to move out of your Country
Well, wife speaks Spanish, and we're in the US, so Mexico has to be the first choice. There's good work for tech skills, a reasonable quality of life, and it's not too far from the US if there's anything we need.
If I were really going to just go and never look back, I'd go to Russia. Land of opportunity where you can go up as fast as your ability takes you, or down even faster if you screw up. I think it would be interesting to try to make a place in a society undergoing so much change and turbulence.
Of course I don't speak a word of Russian, can't even read any, and even my French and Spanish are laughable, but I'd find a way to get along I suspect.

Re: If you had to move out of your Country
The UK, for two reasons: I already know the language and the country's history is interesting. That's all I need.

Re: If you had to move out of your Country
Very true. Everyone says Germans are cold, not me. It's very easy to get along with them, at least from my experience.
-
Re: If you had to move out of your Country
Germans are the most courtious and civilised people in the world, I don't belong there it would drive me mad, but I like them.
-
Re: If you had to move out of your Country
First choice would be the US. Speaking the language and having fond memories of the place would be my main reasons.
:balloon2:
-
Re: If you had to move out of your Country
1) Canada
2) Australia
3) Great Britain (England)
4)Germany
5) Netherlands
6)Switzerland
7)Italy

Switzerland or Holland. I love these countries.
-
Re: If you had to move out of your Country
In the UK I guess I'd go for somewhere like The Netherlands or the US
-
Re: If you had to move out of your Country
I'd go live with CA or Gore. Maybe Husar.
-
Re: If you had to move out of your Country
I live in Maine, so a warm climate all the time would be nice. However, being in the cold for a good part of the year so it is a tough choice. I would love to live in the Oz or Nz plus they speak english, so i wouldn't have to learn a new langauge. If I were going to live in another state, i most likely be Colorado because of the abilty to ski 9 months out of the year.
-
Re: If you had to move out of your Country
I live in NZ now and I'd probably move to somewhere cold and rains alot.

Thats called Austraila - ha ha...
Live in New Zealand, wo go to Italy if I could speak the lingo (I can't) otherwise Botswana was a really nice place. As long as it does not go the way of Zimbabwe.

Re: If you had to move out of your Country
Well as I'm an American of half-Norwegian descent currently living in Minnesota, Norway would be one of my first choices. I know it's horrendously expensive to live there, but it's a beautiful country and the people there have a strong reputation for friendliness (especially towards us Minnesotans!). I also speak a little of the language (took it in high school), though I'm by no means fluent.
My other main choice would probably be Britain. I've always been fascinated by the land and its history, and would love to live in the middle of all that. It's also a relatively short distance from Ireland, which is a plus as I'd want to visit there every now and then. The UK also seems to be a bit of a....quirky place, which appeals to me as well. ~D

Re: If you had to move out of your Country
Canada. My girlfriend's from there, I lived there at some points in the past, and I speak excellent (accent-free!) English (if I may say so myself).
-
Re: If you had to move out of your Country
1) Japan- I'm rather interested in the country, and though I'd have to learn a new language, I've got a feeling it'd be well worth it. Plus, I've heard they're some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet.
2) New Zealand- Just going off of 2nd hand sources that its very nice, and the benefit of not having to learn another language.
3) Canada- Same language, close by, nothing too special, but wouldn't be bad by any means.
4) Switzerland- The con of having to learn another language, but I had an absolute riot when I went there for a few days, beautiful landscape, a stable economy, and the people were pretty nice.
5) Germany- Pretty similar to Switzerland, just didn't catch me as quite as enjoyable, though.

I'd move to Canada.
But nooo, we _had_ to move to Australia...
I'd like to have gone to a country where the currency is stronger than the US dollar.

Currently in the US.
I'd move to Wales.
The family's from there if you go back far enough, plus I think it's about the most beautiful place on earth (especially getting up into Gwynedd).

Slovenia or Croatia, because I'm a masochist, and generally unbalanced, which
might help with the latter.

Re: If you had to move out of your Country
Well I would make it difficult to move. I would move to the only Island province in Canada PEI and try to separate. If that didn't work then I would go anywhere with a moderate climate and learn a new language if required.

Well I would have to learn the language but the climate is far from moderate. I would like a winter season where I don't have to shovel snow.

Hmm in order, Norway(i only visit in the summers), Australia/NZ, France, Canada

In the sense that dealing with their specific cultural and linguistic features can
be a painful process, I would say that things would run more smoothly, that
being the case.

I currently live in Australia (QLD, go the maroons!)

Dude, you live in Virginia. How cold can it get, really? Talk to some canucks, or Minnesotans, or even us second-rate Wisconsinites before you go moaning about cold. What, did it dip below freezing for an hour?
My first pick would be Narnia, since humans get to be kings and heros there, and there's lots of weird half-animal people to freak out my mind. Barring that, perhaps New Zealand, since my wife adores it and the people all seem to be insane and fond of risk. Also I could cheat by not having to learn another language.
But Narnia would be cooler.

If Narnia is a legitimate choice then I would pick somewhere west of Eriador close by the sea. :smash:

Right on. Visit the Canadian Prairie Provinces, and then you shall know the meaning of cold.

Re: If you had to move out of your Country
Currently in the United States. I would have loved to choose Lebanon, the home of my ancestors, and such a beautiful country, more modernized than most of those in the Middle East (no offense to anyone else from the Middle East of course). However, based on the political situation there, I would not feel comfortable enough there. It is such a shame that such a beautiful country is having so much trouble maintaining themselves. ~:(
So in the end, I suppose I would go for the UK. I already speak English, and it just seems like an interesting country. A smaller reason is that I'm a fan of Football (Soccer here in America) and it's really big over there.
-

Indeed. Chuckle, you don't know what winter's really like unless/until you've lived within 200 miles of the U.S./Canadian border. Trust me. :sweatdrop:

1. İstanbul-Κωνσταντινούπολις-Konstantiniyye-Νέα Ρώμη-Nova Roma-Βυζάντιον-Царьград-Цариград-Стамбул-استانبول
2. Ciudad de la Santísima Trinidad y Puerto de Nuestra Señora de Santa María de los Buenos Aires

4. Napoli
5. San Cristóbal de La Habana (though it's too hot there)
However I'm a happy man, since I'm lucky to be Russian :laugh4: (but a little bit tired to be Muscovite) so right now me seriously thinx of moving from the Muscovy Maelstrom to Vladivostok or Sankt-Petersburg

That doesn't seem like much of a contest; I'd pick St. Petersburg, hands down!
Why would you want to move a zillion miles over to the Pacific coast, anyway? Isn't Vladivostok mostly just a Navy town?

But only to visit.

Unfortunately, thanks to global warming, it now has 10 days of fairly liveable weather per year.
Back in my day, it would go above -30 fahrenheit once a year, _if_ we were lucky! And even then you're not taking into account windchill!
That's much funnier if said in a gruff Yorkshire accent

I would probably move to US or Canada. Thats countries where i don't need to learn a new language and would just like to live normally with a family. If your talking lottery win and a custom villa anywhere in the world, then maybe Red sea or Carribbean. I don't mind big cities, but i do live in the murder capital of Europe. (Glasgow)

Re: If you had to move out of your Country
Belgium is a very likely candidate, shared language and all. Germany and England come next.
Australia, Canada and parts of the USA are all good picks: no language problem, not sure if I can stand the Australian sun for consecutive months, though.
If language wasn't a problem at all, I might have gone for a mediterranean country. Italy would be the foremost choice of those.
