bugs or WAD: ships & celtiberains
Two things I've noticed in my Lusotannan game (using BI.exe).
1. The script that generates a Celtiberian stack to appear when you attack them fires more than once. Is that deliberate? It maybe that a new load causes it to reset as I only noticed the second stack when I came back to the game next day.
2. The AI hardly build any ships. Again is this WAD? For a period of major naval activity in the MEd this seems strange. And it cripples the Karthadast. the only people with fleets, rather than individual ships, are pirates.
Re: bugs or WAD: ships & celtiberains
EB is designed to be run on RTW 1.5 - although it will run with the BI.exe, we don't currently support it.
That said - I can't answer 1, but for 2 the ship issue involves hardcoded AI. It is very hard to get factions to do things with navies. It seems to be hit or miss per game. I've had Carthaginian-as-AI games where they locked down the Med with their fleets and others where they lost them within the first few turns and never built up. It seems to depend upon the campaign.
Re: bugs or WAD: ships & celtiberains
I am playing on 1.5RTW and I have now fought 5 celtiberian armies lead by Moskon (with a greek picture). Seems to be a bug?
Re: bugs or WAD: ships & celtiberains
Yeah, I just ran into Moskon on my Romani campaign. His army uses large scale units as compared to the normal scale for which the campaign is set. After defeating him in an incredibly hard fought battle, his entire super-sized stack respawned and proceeded to obliterate the remnant of my legion. If this guy keeps on respawning, how can I defeat him? Will forcing an autocalc win or bribery work?
Re: bugs or WAD: ships & celtiberains
It seems to be a secret plot by our Iberian experts to prevent anybody from taking Iberia ~;)
how often do this guy reemerges? every turn? every 10 turns?
And as ship coordinator i have to say that we can't influence what ships AI builds ~:( It's exactly like blacksnail says - sometimes they build up and sometimes not.
Re: bugs or WAD: ships & celtiberains
For me it seemed almost instantaneous. He attacked on the rebel turn, was defeated, and then was immediately back up to full strength and attacked again on the same turn. However, his units did retain the losses they incurred during the second battle.
Re: bugs or WAD: ships & celtiberains
Alright, I forced an autocalc win with a unit of Iberian mercs before I activated the script. Moskon didn't reappear even on the rebel turn. I'm not sure if not activating the script had an effect or not, but it may be worth a try if you cross him.
Re: bugs or WAD: ships & celtiberains
There is a random element involved in the frequency at which Moskon's army will appear, but it should average only once every 10 years (40 turns) or so.
As with many scripted events, reloading a saved game and/or failing to restart the background script will cause problems. Some of these issues can still be addressed though, so any further details you can provide would be useful.

He's not supposed to be invincible, but you do realize that it took Rome over a hundred years to conquer Iberia, yes? So allowing you to do it in a few seasons wouldn't really be sporting now, would it? :beam:
Kidding aside, it's possible that what happened was not a same/next-turn respawn so much as the result of several spawns. For example, if the Lusitanians or Carthaginians tried to conquer Celtiberia, that might have generated a few Moskon-led armies. So when you wandered into the bear trap, there were a few of them waiting for you.
Re: bugs or WAD: ships & celtiberains
Moskon and his clone army are appearing every second turn on my Aedui campaign, despite the notable handicap of being dead. His army isn't too tough to deal with, but it does get repetitive rather quickly. One of my better generals started to pick up cowardly traits after winning back to back heroic victories against him. Not sure if it is a bug or not.

I apologize for deluging you with questions but:
What was the game date(s) when you saw this happen? Had you taken Numantia when this ocurred? What version of the game are you playing? I'd be very grateful if you could upload a savegame in which this problem manifests. More information would also be welcome.
Thanks very much for alerting us to this problem.

Re: bugs or WAD: ships & celtiberains
Running version .80. Moskon first showed up during the AI turn after I besieged Numantia in 206. Defeated him and Numantia's garrison, with Moskon's army being wiped out. Built some rams to take the city and it's now tiny garrison by storm the next turn, but Moskon reappeared with a clone army the next AI turn. Defeated the army again and Moskon was slain on the battlefield. After one full turn without seeing him again I toggled FOW to check and see if there were anymore Moskon armies descending on Numantia and everything was clear. Next turn he respawned next to the city.

I am at the point of my campaign where I have to fight several battles a turn, and with limited time available it is taking me days to get through a turn. Not sure if having the script not running when fighting some battles is causing problems or not.
Re: bugs or WAD: ships & celtiberains
After taking the town, he shouldn't reappear. Have you taken the town and keep getting him popping up?
Re: bugs or WAD: ships & celtiberains
He popped up again a turn after taking Numantia. He seems content to park next to it now that I have it.
Re: bugs or WAD: ships & celtiberains
I've got your savegame and will have a closer look tonight.
Thanks.
Re: bugs or WAD: ships & celtiberains
Fred_77,
I've looked at your savegame. It's given me some insight into the problem and I'm grateful for your help. Some scripted events will have problems if you save the game while they're active. The problems are more likely if you're unable to complete a turn before saving.
For now, it ought to help if you take Oxtraca.
There are already improvements in this script for 0.8.1, and your help has given me some ideas about how I can make it even better.
Thanks again,
-Atilius
Re: bugs or WAD: ships & celtiberains
Yep. I agree. People who are posting problems would do well to follow Fred's example. He didn't just tell us it looked like a problem, but provided enough detail to PROVE it was a problem. And going the extra mile and attaching the Save Game was exactly what Atilius needed to gain a better understanding of where the script might be going wrong.
So yes, telling us about problems is good. But doing the testing saves us from having to do it and increases the chance (by a LOT) that we'll take your report seriously. And when we take something seriously, we hard charge to go fix it!
