Well for all the assasination scenes in the campaign, I noticed that when a ninja fails to kill a emissary on the street with a cart shooter, he then just runs up to the emissary and get killed. I think this is too silly for a professional assasin to act in such unprofessional way. No ninja should just run up to the victim and be choped in the head while the emissary just stands there with his sword up in the air. Maybe there should be some kind of hand to hand after the fail of the assasination, let's say someting like Bushido Blade. The emissary would duke it out with the ninja in a sword fight. If he kills the ninja, his hounor increase, if he die, then he sucked. And everyone would get a fair chance. Since no body likes to loose a high hounor ninja compared with a hounored emissary.

Another idea would be to have that someone ambushes them such as another ninga or say guard of the emissary. ( that is if they had guards?)

I've also wondered about that failure scene. I mean, would a ninja, after inexplicably missing his target, just say "nuts to this" and run blindly (sword down) into an emissary, just to be cut to ribbons? And after all his preparation, too! How many spring loaded, spear shooting hand carts were there in the Sengoku period?
Also, has anyone else noticed that the success percentages on assassinations seem not to match with the number of ninjas you put in the grave? It seems that I've lost many a ninja to some seemingly easy missions. This also seems to prove true for the computer, although last night I lost my heir to a ninja within the first year of play.

I have a saved game I used to test out all things Christian. One thing I found was that the ninja success/failure are not random, that is to say they will repeat after reloading!
I want to know why use an expensive double spring-loaded spear shooting handcart when a simple blowgun or hand bomb will do?

Give the Emissary a little credit. He may be just a measly Emissary but he doesn't just carry those swords around for show. He's still a trained Warrior. You could assume if an Emissary representing a Daimyo is wandering around enemy territory in Japan without some sort of escort he is probably capable of defending himself in some way or another. Although I must admit it would be a little cooler of the emissary killed the Ninja with a strike showing he had some sort of advanced training aside from the most basic of all strikes.
He should at least kill the ninja six times before the body hits the ground as an expert swordsmen would or maybe I've just watched Ninja Scroll one too many times.

Oh, I am giving the emissary credit, after all, he is a samurai too. But aren't ninja pretty much born into their trade, or close to it? (the game says born but I'm not quite as sure.) I was just a tad... dissapointed that the ninja wasn't more resourceful when his plan was botched. He seemed to be rushing the job. And the hand cart was a bit too creative, but if you have seen all of the geisha scenes, from the almost cartoonish bomb-in-the-dinner gag to the "guitar incident", then you know that it's a trend in this game. However, we are having a lot of fun overanalyzing these 4 second clips http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

I consider the randomness of the Ninjas' success decidedly unfair (it's NOT nice to lose a H4 Ninja to a H0 general just because you got abysmally unlucky with the ~85% chance for success). Accordingly, shameful as it is, I use save/load cheating quite often to preserve my Ninjas. And it works.
