Yes, i am back to haunt you Target! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
As you can see by the reactions of the patrons here, your time is appreciated even if the news is not want we want to hear.
Ashigaru Crossbowmen: a lot of speculation about these units going from "useless" to "replacements for guns" (musks and arqus). Did you find them usefull? If yes, in what way? Do they play like guns? etc...(like always your general impressions)
The Korean "support" units:
The Korean spearmen: From the decription i have read about them , they are comparable to the japanese yari ashi's ? Did you find any use for them?
The Korean Guardsman: They are compared to the japanese nagitanas? How do you rate them?
The Korean Skirmishers: The Javelin throwers with big shields, what are they usefull for? Anti archers or Anti crossbow units?
Bugs?
Has the gun bug been fixed (In a melee situation guns can fire "through" friendly units without harming them or giving them a morale penalty)
The horde: Mid-game or End-game (depending on the difficulty setting) The AI "Cheats" , beeing able to train large armies even if it doesn't have the provinces/koku/économy to realisticly train them creting. Has this been corrected? What was your experience of the SP end game?
Thank you again in advance

Time to jump on the band-wagon! 1. How about Mongol reinforcments? Are they different everytime we play or are they always the same? Where do they land in Japan? 2.Can enemy daimyo bribe your army? And how do we combat corruptability in our units? 3. Is it now possible to marry off daughters into rival clans? I have found an audio file in the Shogun game, whereby it says a daughter is born, this would add a great dimension to the game. 4. Finally, a stupidly superficial question, but, can we now chop emmisaries heads off? If so, how is it done in the game?
-
yes, uh... targeeeeeeeet ! heeeeeeelp, chicks don't want me !
am i doing something wrong ?!?!? if so, WHAT ?
also, i just didn't answer the phone, and i feel very guilty because of that, who knows, maybe someone needed help, what do you recommend i do now?
and finally, is the universe neverending and expanding out in all directions, or is it warping and spiraling into itself ?

I'd better point out from the start that these are my own thoughts and are in no way representative of the opinions of Electronic Arts or Creative Assembly.
KumaRatta:
Ashigaru Crossbowmen - They're the basic bog-standard missile unit and a little less effective in combat than the Arquebusiers, but with the advantage that they fire in all weather conditions. I never had any time for either Arquebusiers on Xbowmen, because I'm play Shogun like I play Counterstrike - charging madly ahead doing as much damage as I can before the opposition wipes me out. Having said that, they're extremely useful for bridge defence because they fire in flat trajectories so fast moving units can't get out of the way, and you don't have to worry if weather turns foul.
Korean Spearguys - hmmm... When we did the Mongol units, we sat around and said that we didn't want the new guys to be copies of the existing Shogun units - because there wouldn't be any point in introducing them. WE made a conscious decision to balance the Mongols on the side of their cavalry (which they were generally famous for) and leave the superior footsoldiers to the Japanese side.
With that in mind, the Korean Spearmen, whilst priced at the same cost as the YariSams are less effecive in battle.
The Guardsmen are on par with Naginata - they have comparable movement rates and similar battle abilities, except Guardsmen are more efficient at killing in close melee combat, but their defensive capabilities are a bit weaker. If I had to make a decision between the two, I think I'd put my money on naginata in a one-on-one situation. Oh, and Guardsmen are cheaper.
Javelin Throwers are one of those units that are effective against all units in one particular situation - when they're bearing down on you and are in mid-to-close range. At this distance, a barrage of javelins will do a fair amount of damage to a large proportion of soldiers. They're not as damaging as guns, but they're more accurate and they can fire 7 to 10 times faster than the guns. Also they'll try to fight back in melee rather than giving up and waiting for someone to cut their heads off.
Gun bug - dunno if this has been fixed. A lot of work has been done to the unit code, but I didn't do it so I couldn't tell you for certain. I'd better leave it at that rather than say yes and then get proved wrong. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
The AI no longer builds a wall of troops and then sits there waiting for you to do something. It acts a little more realistically now. One of the other things people notices is that the AI might have a large number of troops, but only sent a fraction of them into enemy regions a season at a time, making it quite easy to beat them. It doesn't do that now.
The Single Player Endgame is actually made less tedious if you use the terminating conditions. Also, to try and liven things up we've made the population less happy when it looks like you're going to win and become a dictator, and they start supporting uprisings, etc. The most interesting thing we did was introduce re-emerging factions. If a clan dies, but it had heirs that had yet to come of age, they would effectively get spirited away by faithful retainers and raised in secret until they could take control of the supposedly dead clan and appear back on the map. I had one game where I got completely whitewashed by this happening when I thought I had the game in the bag. I had left enough troops back in the homeland to keep the peasants quiet (or so I thought) while I was eradicating the last pockets of resistance. A clan remerges, nicks six or seven of my regions (including my power base and most of my high-yield farmland), bribes half my armies and then uses them to stick sharp things into the other half and then marches over to where my struggling daimyo is sitting, cuts of his escape routes and sieges him to death. I may have complained about the AI at this point...
Jon: Mongol reinforcements aren't the same every time you play. What you get depends very much on how effectively you killed the enemy and captured regions the previous year. If the Great Khan thinks you're kicking back and letting your arse grow rather than conquering Japan like he told you to, he's not going to support you.
I can't tell you where they land, but they sailed from the direction of China, so that should give you a hint.
Enemy daimyos can bribe your units. It's very annoying. Best way to combat this is to ninja his emissaries. If you don't want to do that, place an heir in charge of the army you think may get bribed (heirs can't turn coat), or try boosting the general's loyalty for raising his honour somehow or keeping your armies big (so they're too expensive to be bought) or keeping your daimyo close by. Generals think twice about switching sides if their lord and master is around to watch them do it.
I think daughters were originally in the game to provide a method of proposing alliances, but we decided to keep it simple. There are no daughters in the expansion pack - or if they are they are disguised as sons and pushed into armies http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
Err....no, you still can't chop the heads off emissaries, much as you'd probably like to.
JayDee: I can't help you mate. Women are an enigma to me. I've heard that talking to them, rather than getting drunk and trying to grope them works, but you may end up having to listen to what they say. They'll hit you with the "what did I just say?" question while you're not looking, so it's probably not worth the hassle. Also, trying to offer them money is not a good idea cos they may get the impression you think they're a prostitute. NOTE: this does actually work if they turn out to be a prostitute.
Scientists have always maintained that the universe is expanding, but slowing down. Eventually it'll stop expanding and start to contract until it squashes itself back out of existence. Recently, however, they have said that they've got it dead wrong and it's not slowing down at all and will carry on expanding forever. Even more recently, one of the deep deep deep space probes sent back data from whatever dark reach of space it's in, much to the astonishment of the Space Boffins 'cos they thought it had been destroyed years ago and are frankly amazed that it's still working. Which goes to show that if the people with brains the size of planets with budgets of gazillions of dollars don't know what's going on, there's not a hope in hell of people like us having a clue.
Edited to correct most of my terrible spelling again.

Re-emerging clans is a very good addition to the current play. Thanks Mr. Target.

Regarding re-emerging clans:

Who called it? Moi.
But thank you again, Target-dono. You are fast making up for that PR loss suffered by the developers earlier.

Heh. Re-emerging clans should indeed spice things up a bit... and give a reason to not drag things on until you get battlemechs. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif
