MTW AI Hilarity
So I'm playing a campaign as the Italians, and the Sicilians attacked and took Rome from the Pope, my ally, so I asked the Pope for a Crusade on Rome and he agreed.
Upon successful completion of it, he shortly thereafter decided to sneak attack me and invade Venice, I then invaded the Papal States but sent a bishop to ask for a ceasefire, but oops I killed the Pope and his faction's garrison in the states became rebels and the Pope was gone.
Awkward.

Re: MTW AI Hilarity
Pretty cunning actually, the Pope used the Obi-Wan defense. Being pinned in the States is slow death for the Papal faction, when he reemerges he will probably be in a better situation.

Yeah, he reemergence and I chose to give him back Rome without a fight as he had six or seven stacks and my forces were busy in Palestine

Re: MTW AI Hilarity
Controlling the Pope take some finesse.
As Italy I look to take Rome ASAP; its well developed.
The best result is to force him to withdraw to a fort in the Papal States; preferably with a force that just staves off a revolt, but no larger. If it's his last province you can withdraw for auto-ceasefire and keep him as a pet :)

It's actually funny how you can find the Pope reemerge sometimes with 7-8 stacks, and all of them are high quality troops.
