Once upon a time there was an army who went to battle. Among them was a lowly Kensi. They were fighting an honor 6 general. The Kensi only took 22 kills (the last being the enemy general) and he gained 6 honor at the end of the battle http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/cool.gif Did that happen because he killed the general? I have had Kensi get up to 50 kills and only gain 3 honor.

I'm not positive but I believe the soldier who takes the general or Daimyo's head gets an additional honor bonus. I had a Kensai take a Daimyo's head in a castle storming, and saw his honor jump the instant I got the dead general message. I know he was the one who got him as the other troops had backed off for a breather.

My assumption of honor gain was based on both 1) the number of kills 2) the personal honor of the enemy killed. The enemy general usually has a higher personal honor (such as H4).
For example (not sure whether it is exactly like this):
2 Kill of H0 - H1
4 Kill of H0 - H2
8 Kill of H0 - H3
16 Kill of H0 - H4
32 Kill of H0 - H5
64 Kill of H0 - H6
128 Kill of H0 - H7
But killing an H1 is equivalent to killing 2 H0, killing an H2 is equivalent to killing 4 H0, etc. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

hmmm, could be, seems sensible.
Does anyone know how the ninjas etc. gain honor? Is it the same sort of thing? I've had an honor 4 geisha who killed an honor 1 general and went up to H5 although she had just killed an H4 general without going up to 5.

It seems that the ranks are determined by the # of kills that your ninja/geisha gets. However, they do not seem to be able to go more than one rank per kill.
It takes 3 honor 0 emissaries or 2 honor 0 generals to move a geisha to rank 1. So if you kill an honor 3 or 4 general first - you get credit for 4 honor 0 kills - moving you up and putting you at the cusp of the next rank...
Killing diamyo and heirs also gives more credit. So at higher honor - it takes more kills (or the same rough number of high level targets) to advance.
I should state that this is based only on my observations - and not a specific set of tests I have run. Seems to fit the way it works from a play perspective.
Qapla!

I't might be that, though I had a ninja go up 2 honor yesterday from 1 - 3 just from killing (I think it was) an H1 general. Never mind, I'm not one to complain about fortuetous happenings http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

My geisha(s) can usually reach lvl 5 in less than 2 years by killing just rank 0 generals. (I tend to leave any "real" generals alone for I like the pain of fighting high rank generals). That is 8 kills of honor 0 at most.
