prob just me i get so wrapped up in new screenshots for RTW http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ns/biggrin.gif but can you blame me.
Does look nice http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/smile.gif Appears to be same battle with a load of Greek troops about to flank the besieging Roman troops seen in the first shot
Thank you.
drooooolll..... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ons/tongue.gif
someone send more. now. need more
(einar-
I've heard that system specs should be the same as MTW. )
looks really nice , however i would prefer the greek shields to be more round ( octagonal isnt a very good simulation of a circlular shield)
It's spelled "phalanx" - like the CIWS http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/smile.gif
Wow, nice screenshots Stormer, Now that is how castle battles supposed to realistically be fought with ladders and soldiers storming the walls. Will there be ramming devices too ? Or do we stuck with ramming gates using catapults.
I wonder if there's morale penalty if gates or walls are breached ? imo there should be, maybe -1 if a section is damaged and -2 if a gate is breached.
Dont like the one on the wall looks to smashed together..other ones looks very nice http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/smile.gif
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe those two pictures of Greek Hoplites features the Spartans Take a good look at the long strands of hair hanging down from underneath the helmets, especially in the most recent shot that clearly shows long dark hair flowing down the hoplites' backs. Full beards and long combed hair was one of the many traditions established by Lycurgus for Spartan warriors. On the other hand Lycurgian tradition also required Spartan warriors to sport crimson red cloaks and tunics which is why I am not 100% sure about which Greeks are represented by this unit. The other picture of the Greek Hoplites (from the RTW page at totalwar.com) features a unit leader clad in red armor and wearing a pilos helmet with a a transverse crest on top, typical of Spartan officers. While the rest of the unit is obviously wearing the wrong color scheme is this unit leader a nod by CA to Lycurgian tradition?
On the other hand Rome Total War should begin sometime during the Middle Republic, probably before the 1st or 2nd Punic wars and by that time Sparta was no longer the formidable military power it was in the past. During that same period Sparta under had attempted to make a comeback under Cleomenes III by reforming their society and reviving the Lycurgian constitution so maybe the crimson cloak and tunic was no longer 'in fashion'. Who knows? Maybe this is CA's way of generalizing the look of Greek Hoplites for use by the Aetolian or Achaean League.
Anyway, I don't know whose in charge of the art department at CA but what in blazes is with that silly helmet symbol depicted on the hoplites' shields and unit banner?
On a different note, when is CA going to release screenshots that feature Manipular Legions (Triari/Hastati/Velites, NO pilae ) or even a sarissa wielding Macedonian phalanx (the Armored Swiss Pikemen of RTW? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/wink.gif )? How about a screenshot or two of some Celtic warriors or even Parthian heavy cavalry?
Come on CA, give us the goods
I've already complained about the greeks in the thread on African elephants - but no-one seemed to notice that bit http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/smile.gif
If RTW starts about the 2nd Punic war or later then thre won't be much call for hoplites at all - they'd disappeared by then - and the Roman shield of the time was different from the one depicted too - but at least the Roman armour is right - Republican and Early imperial legionaries wore mail, not the popular lorica segmentata
Ooooh, 6 massive screenshots right here Same stuff we've seen before but at extremely high resolutions (2048x1536x24bit http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif ). The level of detail is simply astounding http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ns/biggrin.gif
Warning For those of you without cable/dsl these pictures will take a long time to download:

I would guess it's supposed to be round, but there just weren't enough polygons to go around. What with the 1000's of soldiers in battle and all.Quote:

Totally Awesome
Something has to go terribly wrong...
Because this all looks to good....
And released in Feburary.......
Wow...
The part that stuck out for me was people seeing the game running and thinking it was a cut scene:

Going to be impressive.
i just hope it doesnt need a pentium 7 at 12 ghz to run properly http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/smile.gif
Hmm, is it just me? Some Romans seem to have been tackled off their horses Look at the third Blue's News Screenshot, left of where the Wolves and the Helmet symbol armies meet. Now this I call saving on system requirements http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ns/biggrin.gif
Also, the most right grey unit seems to consist of men in dresses, what about those guys? Anyone historically enlightened enough to know about them?
You can tell by the pics that they are still in their early form of development.
Can folks fall off walls and ladders? That would be fun if they could http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ns/biggrin.gif
einar, and most of every1 is wondering, what kind of system is gonna be needed to run RTW. im sick of seing that question asked over and over...the answer is this: RTW's requirements are only slightly higher than MTW's. so if u can play Med. you can play Rome.
thats all i gotta say.
slightly higher or greatly higher??.Quote:

these pictures look incredible http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif still no SYRIAN ARCHERS http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif ok jk,but i wanna know if we can change those hoplites shield design through modding(they carried several different shields IIRC),that would be awesome.
Those are great shots I've downloaded them to use as my new wallpaper and they look great
My only concern is: is this game going to run on my ol' PIII: 1ghz computer, w/ 16mb video crd? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/frown.gif What are the spec req's?
