What else do these non-combat units do?... Am I missing anything?... cuz I figured out Ninja can open Castle gate from this forum...

Yeah, u miss a few things!
1: The shinobi also acts as a rebellion starter. Means that if he is dropped in an enemy province, he will lower the loyalty, to the enemy. he is encourging a revolt.
And he acts otherwise in your own province.
2: Priest are also like the shinobi, if he is dropped in enemy land he will convert ppl. to christians.
All the troops does also "open ports", if they are in an enemy port province and the turn is finished, u can move ur troops from ur own port province, to that enemy port province.

also, shinobi are "stackable" in results. one shinobi in an enemy province will lower the loyalty a little bit. ten shinobi will have a greater effect.

how come even when a daimyo is christian, he almost never makes priests?
