Fallout 3 crashes
My brother recently got Fallout three, we installed it and the patch, ran the game started a new game and got a CTD just before it loaded up.
I have had a similar issue with CTD's in other new games i.e Empire since I began running them on my new pc, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this so redirect if needed.
Thanks.

Re: Fallout 3
Posting your PC specs would help.
I assume you have already tried the usual round of updating drivers for everything?
If you have a nvidea card then the latest set of drivers causes problems with quite a few games. Roll back to an earlier version if you're using them.
Are you sure that everything in that new PC is connected correctly? It's not overheating? Are all of the core software installations ok? Rarely windows and other core programs hiccough during install and cause all sorts of bother.
That's about as far as my tech know-how goes, so I'll shunt the topic over to the knowledgeable folks in hard/software. That forum is a little more lively than the apothecary at the moment so you're more likely to get an answer. If they feel it doesn't belong then they'll move it themselves. I'll also edit the topic title so it's a bit clearer that this is a tech request.

Re: Fallout 3 crashes
You could check your PC's 'Event Viewer' to see if it can tell you what's causing the crash. Just go to Start-> Run and type 'eventvwr.exe'
Look in the Application or System logs for any errors that correspond with the date & time of your CTDs.

Re: Fallout 3 crashes
Ok, my specs are a Core i7 and a GTX285 2-way SLI, 6GB's of DDR3 ASUS P6T Motherboard.
I'll go have a look at the event viewer

Re: Fallout 3 crashes
FO3 is known to cause CTDs though most happen while in game and not on start up...
Hope you can resolve your problem as it is one hell of a game...
