Sustainable Investment - Eco-Politics
Since we're discussing politics here, I want to expand slightly into eco-politics. I'm pretty sure you know that environmentalism / green issues are a very hot topic right now in politics and there has been more and more investment, awareness and denial into the whole idea of eco-politics. The impact of environmental policies is massive in terms of economy - but not everyone is looking at it favourable.
Here's a quick overview from Bloomberg as of this week:
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...-30-7-trillion
Quote:
Global socially responsible investments grew by 34 percent to $30.7 trillion over the past two years, lifted by Japanese pension funds, retail investors everywhere and broad, growing concern about climate change.
Europe remains the biggest region for sustainable investors with about $14 trillion devoted to these strategies, up 11 percent from 2016, according to the biennial report from the Global Sustainable Investment Alliance, which aggregates data from regional sustainable investment groups around the world.
Impressive overall, given that there are 30.7 Trillion USD worth of sustainable investments worldwide.
What's your take on this? Should we invest more in sustainable development? Or as Germany would kind of like it - a balanced approach?
Re: Sustainable Investment - Eco-Politics
I don't think investments into sustainable infrastructure are enough. I think social initiatives that encourage citizens to care about environmental issues is necessary as well. It does not have to be mass "re-education" or anything like that. That clean up challenge making rounds on twitter is actually a great way to reach out. Highlighting and praising the results of local clean up efforts can also foster stronger communities, which will have other secondary and tertiary benefits.

The western world's political class are currently too corrupt and incompetent to make any major push by governments be anything more than ruinously-expensive, ego-masturbatory farces.

Do you have any tangible ideas yourself?
