a serious bug in "tidy up units after battle" option
whenever I send my king and prince (same units, royal knights) into a battle, I am 100% sure than both of them still alive and have some units left to each of them, but after winning the battle, these two units automatically merge up and my prince just vanish from the face of the earth.
For example, before the battle, king has 21 knights and prince 20 knights. Right before winning the battle and returing to campaign map, king has 9 knights and prince has 13 left.
On the campagin map, I conqur the province, I look and see my king has a full unit,21 knights and the other unit has 4 knights. but my other unit's general is no longer my prince.
Where is my prince?
Then when I take off the "tidy up unit after battle" option, then I don't run into this problem..
Is it my problem or a bug?
Re: a serious bug in "tidy up units after battle" option
I think your prince died and you didn't realise.
Usually when a unit's captain dies in a battle the flag on that unit shifts to another unit which is the new captain who is usually in a position in the block of soldiers other than in the center front. I think that you didn't notice your prince died and the new general just happenned to be at the cneter front of your mere 4 remaining knights.
Your prince must have died. :(

I always found turning that option on was annoying.
Re: a serious bug in "tidy up units after battle" option
That is a known issue that happens SOME times. Just turn auto-tidy off. It also lets you merge, saving the best generals, and lets you merge lesser armor/weapon upgraded men into companies with more thereby automatically upgrading them also.
Re: a serious bug in "tidy up units after battle" option
Technically you dont upgrade them because unit stats are based on the individual not the group as a whole. Look at the battle logs valour and armor and attck upgrades are all calculated fro each individaul person

Ok.... all the guys in the newly formed unit 'appear' to have the upgrades of the unit you drop the men into , so what happens with fatigue eg in the desert. Lets say you drop 59 FMAA with full armour upgrade onto a unit of 1 FMAA with no upgrade, as I understand it the unit picture will show no upgrade. So you take this unit off to the desert...... does it tire as if it is a heavily armoured unit or not? If not then this would be a fantastic unit as it gets the individual bonuses from the armour, but not the fatigue penalty. I would guess for the fatigue calculation an 'average' of the units armour is taken if some have different values. Does anyone know??
Re: a serious bug in "tidy up units after battle" option
Im not 100% but i presume fatigue like everything else is calculated per individual so i think the unti will still get tired pretty quickly. However unless someone else knows better...
Re: a serious bug in "tidy up units after battle" option
Merging units sometimes causes really strange results. Today I merged two V5 viking huskarls, resulting unit had 3 valour ~. How is that possible?
Re: a serious bug in "tidy up units after battle" option
Actually according to CA, armor and weapon upgrades are NOT kept per man but are only kept per company. Valor, morale and attack/defend are kept per man. Check it out.
