Pre-Installed Governments
I will make this as helpful as possible, Bovi..
It is not a current or game-ruining problem and I have found a way to avoid it.
The inconvenience is always resulting in a CTD, playing as the Getai, when I conquer a settlement in which there is an already built, but damaged, level 4 government system enabled.
Whether I use process_cq or I repair normally, as soon as the repair is complete the game crashes.
This has happened almost exclusively in Anatolia where there are alot of Getic Free Tribe governments, damaged and in-place.
However this has also happened when allowing a new government to be built over an existing damaged foreign government, or in the event of the accidental repair of a foreign Satrapy or Hellenic government.
Knowing you, and your skepticism, this will be of almost no use - however I have not seen a bug like this, I know all the causes, and I know my solution - I always destroy all government buildings, damaged or not, from now on.
It caught me off guard though as I though it was a gift to the player to have a government in a new settlement for half-price.
Apart from this, my game has been fine, the memory leak is often terrible after an hour or two, or after a particularly large battle.. not to mention, Alt+Tabbing is out of the equasion unless I wish to suffer half an hour of waiting just to quit and restart the game anyway.
However this is all fixed well enough by regular restarts, clean hard drives and defragmentations, (... one or two raw eggs...), it also destroys the chances of CTDing after battle, which occurs also out of memory loss - something I meant to write and tell a recent worried member about.
That is my report sah, I hope there is some new information in it.. for someone.
Re: Pre-Installed Governments
Destroy the government always. Unless you yourself built it, destroy it. Could you give a list of the provinces in which this happened as if it is happening exclusively with type IVs it may be a problem with the script at that point.

Re: Pre-Installed Governments
I can't remember exactly what has been said about crashing due to leaving old governments, but as Foot says you should definitely remove them. If having more than one government for an AI causes crashes, perhaps we'll have to reconsider placing the governments upon conquest. I wish we could destroy buildings by script, instead of just damaging them. I always destroy enemy governments myself, so I haven't seen this problem before.
Glenn, I'm sorry if I have offended you in some way. Could this balloon fix whatever is the matter? :balloon3:
Re: Pre-Installed Governments
The problem is this:
There are two governments in a town.
You destroy one.
The game now things there are now buildings from that building tree.
You try to repair the second.
The game doesn't know how to repair a building it just destroyed and the game crashes.
The solution is:
1- Destroy all governments and don't repair any.
2- Destroy all but one government. Save. Exit the game. Reload and the game will have forgotten you just destroyed one government.
Re: Pre-Installed Governments
Thank you both, you have explained it perfectly.
Nikaia, Pergamum and Mytilene were the main problems - by the conquest of the third I had learnt my lesson!
No Bovi you have not caused me any trouble so I won't be needing your balloon, I was simply cautious because I know that you openly detest public complaints if they are impractical!
Thank you again..
Re: Pre-Installed Governments
Well, I am perhaps severe when I strongly disagree with something that is suggested. Thank you for pointing it out, I'll try to be more diplomatic in the future.
Re: Pre-Installed Governments
While diplomacy is one of those things there can never really be too much of, for a guy who self-describes as a missile I think you're doing a fine job, Bovi
