Just had top put this one in here, to counter (and hopefully reverse the tredn of) all the people opining with negative vibes.
Despite some written misgivings about certain features (thunder bombers, etc.) everything about the Mongol Invasion that I've seen, heard, played, felt and tasted is awesome and equal to the overall game as a whole. While, as stated before, we all have our opinions about what's good and bad about this-or-that, you guys will certainly get into the game as much as you were when you first got it (and had the incentive to join the .Org as a regular member).
This is my good-karma deed for the day.

Given Soly's penchant for dark humor and practical jokes, I can't help but wonder if this isn't his Opus Magnum. I truly hope not and that we are getting a glimpse into the future...but I find myself a bit skeptical that he isn't quarantined with some sort of gag order regarding the beta.
Ever the skeptic,

O ye of little faith!

The Force tells me that, for this one time, Solypsist-sama is serious. His access to the beta version has been reported previously, and his attitude to it is exactly as I would have expected. Believe him. It's true.
Thank you, Soly; even if nobody else buys it, you made my day. Even though I knew that already. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

Anssi,
Don't mistake my relative knowledge of Soly's modus operandi from my sincere hope (can't bring myself to say belief) that Soly DOES in fact have the beta.
My main point was merely to give him a little grief since it had been a while (not that he doesn't have better things to do.... LIKE TESTING THE BETA WHICH THE REST OF US DON'T HAVE! lol

How does one get to be a beta tester?

You have to be tested for rabies; if you test positive, you qualify!

Is a little hydrophobia all it takes? Fort Dietrick is just down the road a piece. I'll go get some! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

only official beta testers are required to pledge silence.
anyhow, Obake's lack of faith just convinced me to not bother with the drive down to the Springs with a newly minted CD for him to check out.
fyi, it doesn't matter what you know, it's who you know that gets you cool stuff in this world. but, for the record, I was being completely serious when I made my original post.

Thanks for the encouraging words Solypsist. That leaves the release date as the only topic left to discuss on this forum. Do you know someone who can kill that one too? Please, please, please?? (I know no one can, it is just wishful thinking.)

Oh no: this need not kill the debates about the expansion's contents (or even quality), on the contrary. Soly-sama just wanted to establish the fact that, despite all the hype and all the sceptics, the 'pack will be enjoyable *in general*. Just like I've always said. That doesn't mean that individual elements couldn't be out of place or otherwise inappropriate. So please do keep 'em coming...

To Annssi: Wasn't Peter Englund the guy who played Freddy Kruger inall those bad Nightmare movies?
To the rest: I got zip on the release date, just like the everyone else.

Soly my good but oh so cruel and heartless friend! You really know how to hit a guy where it hurts don't ya! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif It would have hurt even more had I known that you were even remotely considering actually making the drive down here!
If on the other hand I have completely mis-judged the situation, I would be more than happy to abase myself on your behalf to obtain this newly minted CD you speak of!
(Truth is that I do believe ya, you just don't get enough grief from the rest of the community because of your renowned ability to deliver outstanding quality retribution...case in point!)
PS, you don't happen to know a guy up there by the name of Mike Dye do you? He's a PERL programmer doing freelance work out of Boulder.

Check out Cossacks: European War.
-
WW: we checked out cossacks more than half a year ago, and everybody with at least half a brain came to conclusion that it is an UTTER BS. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/mad.gif so there.
of course if you like it or whatever, that's fine, but a lil' free advice- seeing how you like to mention cossacks anywhere and everywhere around here, spamming is not going to take you very far... http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

*cough* JayDee-san, let's all be nice and civil here... But, granted, I can't see what Cossaks has to do with this topic.
And Soly, I'll bite: Freddy Krueger was actually played by Robert Englund, while Peter Englund is a contemporary Swedish historian. Oh well, you weren't far off, and I trust you asked the question purely in order to further civilise yourself, yes? http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif

What was wrong with it; I haven't bought it yet?
-
well, i MEANT that first part, as for the second - i meant that in a nice way of course, just forgot a smiley (i fixed that to avoid any more misunderstandings)
as for what's wrong with cossacks... well let's see... hmm... how about it's a freeeeeeakin' AOE clone ??? as those who have been around prolly noticed i tend to get very upset and emotionally unstable http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif by a slightest mention of anything that has to do with AOE (and other similar RTS GAMES).
I guess those ridiculous dumb senseless clickfests are not for me. hope you get an idea http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif when i tried the cossacks demo i nearly ran out and strangled the first person walking by- nuff said http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

I'm confused! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/confused.gif
Me, Erado-san, and I don't remember who else, were the one's who requested the fan based BETA testing, (prior to the patch 1.11 catastrophe) and managed to get them to go for it (after the patch 1.11 catastrophe http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif ). Now I read this and am scratching my head. I didn't get no stinking BETA 1.13 or an Expansion pack chunk to test! Err, yet...?
I feel like a little mushroom over here.
You know what they do to mushrooms don't you?

Yer right, Daimyo.
As far as I know there is no 1.13 beta out there, and I think I would know if it was.
Nor is Soly on the beta players mailing list.
So if Soly has any beta, I wonder in what capacity he got that.
My best bet is that it is one of his practical jokes really. But, people seem to believe him.
No, I just wait for Graham's mail about when the beta testing will start.
-
okay The Daimyo and Erado-San:
I've just sent you some email explaining everything, and my relation with the beta, and I hope it answers your questions. So don't worry, everything is fine.
I probably will stop posting anything about The Mongol Invasion from this point on, but at the time it seemed like a fun idea to post what I was seeing/playing and everyone was asking about. I realize jus t what this i worth, so it's best to avoid getting myself into a hole by posting stuff prematurely. Sorry.

Yep. Explains everything. And as you mentioned, things are very likely to change indeed.

OK then?? So you don't like ones based on the same kind of things as Age of Empires... does that include game play or just don't like Microsoft products.
What other games; Fields of Glory and Sudden Strike????
-
-
Thanks for letting us know that Soly, we were all going "Whuh?" but now it makes sense.
No worries here man. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

well i happen to hate M$ (now i have to give them a credit for making the best KBRD available, but unfortunately that's it), but that really doesn't have much to do with it. It's just the fact that those games are a load of mindless BS, the gameplay is horrid and oh yes, i'm one of those realism seeking freaks http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif so there.
as for fields of glory... errr... which one is that...can't quite get it straight...
and sudden strike- i tried the demo, and tried to like it, but no thank you. the way it plays and controls is just horrible and frustrating and... you get the idea. the only good thing about sudden strike- very nice armour graphics and sound efx.

I liked the 10 mb music stuff. as a perfectionist i think it could be slightly better on some seconds in it, but the atmosphere is great.
i like the throatsinging implemented.
