Inventories of the British soldier's kit from 1066 to 2014
I thought this worth posting here. It was done by the Telegraph to commemorate the start of WW I and it's a series of 13 pictures with lists of everything that the typical British soldier would have carried into battle down through the ages starting with the battle of Hastings to present.
Because it is part of a series commemorating the 100th anniversary of WW I, the first picture is for that war and is out of order. There is a link in the text with each picture with a numbered list of the items.

They seemed to have jumped from 1854 to 1914 and totally skipped the colonial war period of the late 1800's They missed having red coats, pith helmets, and Martini-Henry single shot rifles. Isandhlwana, Rorke's Drift, and the defense of the Sudan all come to mind.
Maybe not a period they want to remember, but still worth noting just for the interesting transitions of the soldier's kit.
