Ancient TW2 - BABYLONIAN faction (RoP)
For the Rise of Persia scenario, after the Medes, the Babylonians were the next most powerful empire. Having thrown off the Assyrians and re-establishing a new native Babylonian dynsaty, the Neo-Babylonian Empire was ruled in 560BC by King Neriglissar. Historically, it didn't last long after first contact with the new Persian Empire of Cyrus the Great. Babylon was widely regarded as the world's greatest city, and was fabulously wealthy.
In the RoP scenario, the Babylonian empire controls the following provinces: Babylonia, Susiana, Assyria, Syria, Coele Syria, Aramaea. The empire is well protected by rivers, so the menacing Median armies across the border are easily held at bay, but the northern approaches through Armenia and Capadoccia are more vulnerable. To the south west lies Egypt, aslo with a resurgent native dynasty (the 26th) after a period of foreign control. To the north west lies Anatolia - shielded in the early years by the province of Cilicia, currently in rebellion. But beyond the Cilicians lie the Ionian Greeks and the Lydian empire of Croesus.
As an imperial power, Babylon is able to recruit local troops from its subject provinces, and consequently has a very small faction-unique roster, raising only elite troops from amongst its own citizens. However, the variety of troops which are available across the empire can make for a very diverse army.
Babylonian Troop Roster:
Faction-unique:
- Qurubtu sa Shepe Babylonian Royal Guard - heavy cavalry bodyguard unit
- Kallapi Babylonian Horse Archers
- Sha-ariti Babylonian Spearmen
- Chaldean Skirmishers
Generic Middle-Eastern: - Eastern Archers
- Eastern Light Cavalry
- Tower Shield Spearmen
- Eastern Swordsmen
- Slingers
The Imperial Levy (start provinces only)
- Sab Massartu Assyrian Militia
- Sab Qassi Assur Assyrian Archers
- Nas Kababi Azmarê Assyrian Heavy Spearmen
- Am HaAretz
- Hebrew Militia
- Judean Archers
- Aramaean Cameliers
- Phoenician Colonial Militia
- Phoenician Marines
- Phoenician Archers
As the empire grows, further troops types become available, though the core Babylonian elite troops won't be found very far from home.

Re: Ancient TW2 - BABYLONIAN faction (RoP)
that's a great Review Panel Mac ! ..... Ishtar Gate looks brilliantly done on it .
With the new discovery , we will enjoy making many new ones .
I don't remember at the moment , but did the Babylonians appear in V2 ?
Re: Ancient TW2 - BABYLONIAN faction (RoP)
First outing for the Babs... in all my other scenarios they had been conquered by someone else (and were pretty much off the edge of the map, too....) This time its the Assyrians who are the subjugated ones.
Re: Ancient TW2 - BABYLONIAN faction (RoP)
ahh yes , my thinking was correct :2thumbsup:
I think there is a bif already with the pointed helmet .
Is that the model you plan on using to represent the Babylonians ?
Re: Ancient TW2 - BABYLONIAN faction (RoP)
Yes, the Bab factionals have the same textures as the equivalent Assyrians used before.
