    Question Alexander the Great Game

I have noticed a few threads on the Alexander the Great game here, and since I couldn't get an answer anywere else I ask anyone that got the game to help me.

I bought Alexander, installed it all right, but everytime I try to run it, it just shows it's loading "Fortune Favors the Bold" and then it dissapears.

So can anybody help me out on this, thanks.

Question Re: Alexander the Great Game

I think you may have misunderstood: The posts are regarding an new expansion for RTW based on the campaigns of Alexander which has been featued in magazines (though strangely it hasn't yet been officially announced) It isn't available yet.

You're talking (I think) about the game Alexander, which based on the film of the same name. That game isn't related to Total War.

Question Re: Alexander the Great Game

Possibly it is a hoax, but I would say it's unlikely. A large number of people from various websites claim to have seen the article in the magazine, and scans were made available (they have since been taken down) It looked legitimate to me. Although it is somewhat odd that there's been no official announcement (especially since the article claimed it would be released in March) Maybe they're hoping to spring it out of the blue, or something.

It's not a hoax. It was previewed in the UK PCZone magazine out now (it was first shown last month in UK PC Gamer). It was a two page job, with several screenies and said to be out end of March. Brian Blessed was interviewed, saying how PC games got a bad press but were fun/educational.

Brian Blessed in an interview about PC Games?

I didn't even know that he played them, I guess he has to do something in between playing Kings and Emperors.

Anyway thanks for tha clarification, I still feel cheated since I payed way to much to see "Fortune favors the Bold" show up and then nothing.

Yes, apparently he's doing the narration on the forthcoming RTW: Alexander expansion. Not sure where narration will fit into a TW game, but I'd be interested to find out.

Sorry to hear that. As others have said, you're presumably referring to a non-Total War game as the Alexander RTW expansion is not out yet. It sounds like you have a tech support issue - does the manual or readme give you advice on where to get tech support?

I am seriously looking forward to RTW Alexander then, since Brian Blessed has always been a gifted actor in his role as either an Emperor or King (He is halarious in Black Adder).

Yes I was talking about a non total war game, since I thought that was what the other threads where about.

I looked at all of the game requirements and found that there is no tech problems, the game is defective. What else is known about thie RTW Expansion set?

Just a quick bit of rumour control: there is an Alexander mini-expansion pack for Rome: Total War in the works. Release dates are not something I know about - and not actually something that CA control - so I can't say anything about that. The pack is not to be confused with other games-based-on-movies-based-on-Colin-Farrell's-haircut.

I hope to see it soon then, and it is good to have one of Englands most "respectable" (whatever that means, we Brits can be so so rediculous with words) defending video games.

Anyway, MikeB has confirmed that it will be released, but he has not set a date for it yet.

i hope not. It is a download only pack though, and according to PC Gamer/Zone UK its an experiment for CA. Maybe we`ll see more of these packs in future. I vote for Hannibal to be the next one :)

I hope they're charging money for it. I like free stuff, but if they're charging for it, there is a better chance that they're putting some serious work into it. And we'll also have a right to complain about any minor tweaks it might need, in a later patch. With free stuff, it's more of a take it or leave it thing.

I'm looking forward to it, especially since I've started a new book on the classical period (A War Like No Other - How the Athenians and Spartans Fought the Peloponnesian War - Victor Davis Hanson).

I'm guessing it'll be new skins and maps for a series of historical battles you can fight, not a full-blown campaign. I doubt we'll see anything in the way of patching with it either. But on the plus side if it is just all that I can't see them charging for it.

That's what I feared (I have zero interest in historical battles, even if linked together into a historical campaign as in MTW). But it was not the impression I got from the UK PC Zone magazine article. I'm still not clear how "narration" (by Brian Blessed) can fit into a standard TW campaign. But it did appear to me that there would be a standard campaign - ie with a RTW style map and building up cities etc. There was also mention of historical battles, which is odd as having both battles and a standard campaign sounds a bit much for a mini-expansion. I'll read the mag more carefully next time I go to the supermarket.

If there is Narration then the only place I can see it in a Rome based game would be:

Opening title sequence. Don't forget that's quite a long sequence with a suitable voice-over and...

As the Campaign and Battlemap "help".

I have to agree that due to there being Narration it's more likely to be a mini-campaign rather than a "Battle Pack".

LOL thats exactly what I do. I've been rubbing shoulders with penny pinching Yorkshiremen far too long.
There are times I wish they’d just ban everything- baccy and beer, burgers and bangers, and all the rest- once and for all. Instead, they creep forward one apparently tiny step at a time. It’s like being executed with a bacon slicer.

    Hello peeps

Dont know when its being released, but it does contain a full Alexander campaign using a different map to either the RTW or RTW:BI maps. It also contains a series of battles.
It is not just some new units and battle maps.

The article in the Swedish magazine posted over on the .com says that it will have two facets: a set of many historical battles, and also a campaign where you have to race to match Alexander's speed in getting from Greece to India. Obviously that calls for a new map. Sounds pretty intriguing to me. Not clear, though, whether Brian Blessed is narrating just the historical battles (pretty straightforward, I'd think, setting up the situation for you) or the campaign, which is probably too complicated to implement in any serious way.
