    Very nice Soly, as always.
I've never seen you posting advise or replying to questions concerning your pics.
Nevertheless, I'd like to know how you achieve this lighting?
Do you spot meter on the lightest point and expose with those settings, do you just underexpose or do you do it afterwards in PS?

Very nice pictures Geoffrey. Some fog with the right lighting can sure make for a nice picture. That first picture is just perfect to my eyes. The sunlight reflecting off the canal, the curving line of trees embracing the sun, a matching curve of the canal and the small, leafless tree fading into the mist makes for a great picture.

It does pay to get up early - just wish I could.

Thanks for the compliments stormcrow and I'd like to add that everybody has put up wonderful photos, I've started to download them all, and try to organize them, which I must say has been alot harder than I thought it would.

I'm not sure if this belongs here, if it doesn't I'll create a new thread, but I'm thinking about getting a new camera. Currently I'm using a Fuji Finepix a345 with a 128mb card, I do most of my editing with the Fuji software and paint. The options I'm considering are, Fuji Finepix A600, Sony Cybershot DSCW5 and the Cannon Powershot A700.

I'm leaning towards Fuji, primarily because it's familiar and cheaper than the others, plus I wouldn't have to buy a new memory card, though I probably will upgrade that as well. Also I've downloaded photoplus and am learning to use it, it's a little bit more difficult than paint, but it does offer more options and possibilities as well.

I consider myself a beginner as far as photography goes, so if anybody has advice about cameras, editing software, and peripherals please feel free to share.

Thanks. Getting up early presents great oppurtunities; some of my favourite Crete pictures were taken by some early starts.

    Mercian Billman :

    http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/comp..._a700&show=all

Dpreview is a great site if you want info on digital camera's. Main thing to ask yourself is why you want a different camera, and what you want to do with the new one..

I don't know how your budget is and how far you want to go with photography, but consider the Nikon D50 as well :

    http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/comp...n_d50&show=all

It's the cheapest digital SLR available and the great thing is that you can change lenses&have loads of options with it. I've got it myself and have nothing bad to say about it. It's a great camera to start semi-proffesional photography with...

Anyway, show us more pictures! It is after all the Gallery .

In keeping with the current news, here's some of my photos from my trips to St Petersburg:

This is the famous statue of Peter the Great - the rock is only two pieces and was shipped from the Ural mountains because of its perfect shape.

The Hermitage (Winter Palace) from the Neva river.

The summer residence of Peter is the Peterhof (where the G8 leaders had a dinner). This fountain is the centrepiece of the grounds.

In the background is a very dainty japanese bath house in the grounds of the Peterhof - but the foreground is much more interesting to me, containing my lovely wife!

    hi guys,

am glad to see that this thread is still carrying on. i see some very good pics in here. geoffrey, those foggy/hazy landscape pics are great!

and soly, you old hounddog, i see some things never change ... and that's not all bad ;) lemme know when you wanna play with some chops and shops :) (i've been playing with displacement maps lately) which reminds me, you never did show me your puss. i'm still wondering if that one i worked on was/is really you.

also, if you guys are interested at all in photoshop type filters, there is a new one i'm currently beta testing called Filter Forge. this thing is bloody amazing. you can find the demo at: http://www.filterforge.com . and no, you dont need to be a coder to use it.

    i'll be around :)

The quality of these photos are terrible because I used a throw away camera.

I wasn't studying anywhere in Europe. I was on vacation, visiting my friend who lives in Brussels. We decided to go on a few side trips, Amsterdam included. Amsterdam was my favorite city that I visited. Something about a city that is beautiful, everyone speaks english, and has legalized mary jane/prostitution that is just hard to beat. We stayed in a hostel up in Noordwjk though. That was also very nice.

Well I was on vacation in Wisconsin for the last two weeks and took these photos, early in the morning. These were both taken on the last day of my vacation, and after doing this I kind of wish that I would have woken up early every morning.

I like the 2nd one best Mercian Billman, it's a nice composition, I'm a sucker for trees on the side of a picture though .

I've adjusted your first picture a bit, if you mind, tell me and I'll remove it inmediately...

I'm too impatient to spent more time on it, but I think a bit more diversity in the sky would really help it...

    Totalsaw.yeahbaby!

A brand spanking new Stihl MS 460 Magnum. 76.5cc of gnashing goodness. My old one was getting a bit used so I sold it to my partner for parts and got this last night. $1200 with a few spares, but it's the first brand new saw I've bought in five years.

Like a five year-old with a new pair of shoes.

I bet they did. But always funny accents. When they talk french, english even when they talk dutch!

Nah, as a true Belgian I just hate the Idea that Amsterdam is prettier then our Belgian cities.

    Stupid Dutch.

Edit: What more did you visit?
