Chancellor Report, Summer 268 BCE

The activity in the Arche stays on top for another season. A new government is being established in Pergamon, roads in Salamis, simple drainage in Ipsos and a temporary military government in Halikarnassos. The wooden palisade there has also been repaired.

The amount of finished buildings are perhaps even greater. The farmlands in Babylon have finished, and the populace there can quite literally reap the rewards now. Homes for our military settlers have also finished in Propthasia, which should improve the public order there. The governors house in Antiocheia-Margiane is finished, as is the small temple of Seleukos in Alexandreia-Ariana, which has once again put the inhabitants there at ease. There will be no rebellion there. Hekatompylos now has a wooden palisade to protect it from raids or worse and the sacred enclosure of Atargatidos is finished in Side. Last but not least, Sidon now has a government established, and the military government of Halikarnassos is in place.

In order to keep the peace in Halikarnassos, I had to go there myself, which necessitated lower taxes in Pergamon. To make up for it, I increased taxes in Salamis. However, I only did this out of necessity and as a temporary thing, so I would not have Theodotas Pisidikes just take off and leave me to deal with it! I would have a garrison in place first. Also, though you may have had good intentions, I would remind you that you do NOT have the authority to change the taxes. That is for me to do, or for any satrap that the settlement in question belongs to.

In other news, the Pontic army hasn't moved at all over the season. I still don't feel any need for fear, but keeping it in the back of our heads might be a good thing.
