Report for 1158:
Battles:
The war against Venice had its first important battle. And although we won it was at the great loss of Nevoulas ek Philadelphias! He was an inspirational man who led the Empire with a steady hand. He will be missed in the days to come.
Another victory was won against a small Venetian fleet in the Strait of Sicily. Admiral Niphos is on his way to besiege Ragusa port.
While we are on the topic of the navy. It is important that the Imperial fleet is under full control at all times to engage the Venetians at sea and to open up a new front on the Italian peninsular. Senator Theo Petzeas has seized several fleets and is now controlling the largest Imperial fleet! I urge him to use these ships against our common enemy the Venetians or release control of them, so that they can be used to carry the fight to their shores!
I congratulate Andronikos Komnenos on removing the Seljuk threat to Tblisi.
Recruitment:
Ioannis Komnenos used 0 out of his 15 PUs.
Armatos ek Naksou used 6 out of his 6 PUs.
Ioannis Kalameteros used 4 out of his 8 PUs.
Nikolaos Aristenos used 4 out of his 4 PUs.
Apionnas Vringas used 4 out of his 4 PUs.
Methodious Tagaris used 0 out of his 2 PUs.
With no Prioritized Units to recruit some money was spent on retraining the soldiers lost in the defense of Tblisi.
Construction:
Ioannis Komnenos used 0 out of his 2 PBs.
Armatos ek Naksou used 0 out of his 1 PB.
Ioannis Kalameteros used 0 out of his 1 PB.
Nikolaos Aristenos used 1 out of his 1 PB.
Apionnas Vringas used 0 out of his 1 PB.
Several Chapels and Churches were finished throughout the Empire to spread the Faith. The new Highways now reach all the way to Athens.
The walls of Alexandria are about to be enlarged. This major undertaking has stripped the Imperial treasury of most of its content leaving no money to do a similar but more expensive construction in Antiokheia.
As it stands the required 12 000 florins will be hard to come by with an annual income of around 6000 florins right now. This means there won't be any construction for at least the next two turns.
Domestic Affairs:
The Merchant's Guild is offering it's services to Nicaea. I await word on the matter. Please refrain from accepting these offers yourself as spending the money of our Empire is solely up to the Megas Logothetes.
Speaking of Nicaea. A large group of dissenters is plaguing the countryside. It is time to intervene.
Foreign Affairs:
The Germans have joined the Crusade and are now marching towards Tunis. They are currently in the Nile delta. The French Crusaders have not boarded ships and seem instead intent on taking the long way around to reach Tunis entirely by land.
