Did you thinking about Sea Battles in EB? There was some modification, but it has never been finished. It called Section Sea

It can't be done I am afraid. I guess the maker of that mod just changed ships into chariots and had them run around on a blue field. The R:TW engine cannot deal with such factors as wind, waves and propulsion power (and no, these cannot be modded in).

Well for aforementioned reasons there will not be any naval battles in either EB1 or EB2.

And what concrete is hard-coded in RTW engine?? Is it, that player cant attack enemy with fleet on sea and he wants play on battlefield or these factors??
Hardcoded means that it cannot be changed.Originally Posted by LumpyHL
In this case: you can turn units into ships, but you cannot make them behave like ships.

wouldnt it also take up a lot of unit slots?

i know what that means. But i wanted to ask what is hard-coded in RTW engine. These factors or attack on sea. I mean that you can fight with enemy on batllefield.Originally Posted by Ludens
Also i think that is possible to make ships from chariots or elephant. They have strong impact and linear acceleration.(for few seconds ,but ....) I think that these conditions are most important for just a little realistic sea
and it would have been fun![]()
Those ships are daaaaamned cuuuute. XD Stumpy, chubby and bright red. Imagine Pahlava ships. Bright jolly pink!
*ahem*
You can't have sea battles in RTW because even though you can make it possible to fight one on the battle map, you can't get from the campaign map to the battle map. There is no 'fight the battle' button, only the auto-resolve one. And that's hardcoded.

Thats too bad. That would be so cool. Maybe it can be done in about 10 years or so. TW is coming out with a new game that takes place during the height of the British Empire. From the pics that I have seen it has naval battles.
nah, less than 10 years. Empire: Total War is coming out this year (2008), and is supposed to be extreamly moddable, to get those mods cranking out sooner, for thats another thing which RTW is so famous for. i would say 2 years at the very most, at least for the first mod to come out, whether it be EB or some other mod.

That picture is the funniest thing I've seen for a long time!
One balloon for not being Roman
I'd thought you could possibly do a space:total war using Rome engine, replacing cities with planets & forcing all the land to be essentially flat & black (possible exceptions being around gravity wells ie planets etc. where you could abstract space/time distortion into height values for combat advantage/disadvantage) but I didn't think anyone would try to get ship to ship period battles into the Rome engine
Certainly looking forward to how a Rome period mod of the Empire:TW engine (EB 3?) would do sea battles![]()
maybe those guys should be doing something more useful...
Hopefully there will be a galley model in Empire:TW. I know that they were still in use a century before the start date, but I'm not so certain about during Empire's time. If they do include a galley model, then any modding efforts would be sped up a lot. Especially since I don't know of any major vehicle modifications at present. (e.g. EB still has a vanilla graphical model for their siege artillery and if anyone would change this, it'd be EB)

Galleys were used for archipelago- and littoral combat in the Baltic until after Napoleon, anyway. Cheap, cheerful and well suited for such cramped waters.

What, unfamiliar with the term "cheap and cheerful" ?They were crewed by militias from the coastal and archipelago communities if that's what you mean. Nobody used unfree rowers on warships if they could help it after all.

Galley fleets were in use in the Mediterranean well into the 18th century, maybe even later.
