    The file you're looking for is the export_descr_unit file,and below is the number to change in bold:

    I actually looked over that file, but was looking for a "24." Though somewhere else here I read about unit numbers being 'doubled' from what the file said... I assume this why it says only 12?

    The number there is the base amount. It is scaled depending on what unit size you have. The minimum number is 6.

    I play the game with unit sizes on normal and then do any other unit-specific changes in the EDU itself,because I like heavy and light cavalry at double strength,whereas I leave skirmisher cavalry where it is.

    That's just an example of my preferences.
