I got it in the mail yesterday, and I noticed that in Destiny Mode, under Liu Bei, I find it impossible to proceed past a certain point. He sends me off to protect some other guy, and then goes and ets himself killed. If I protect Liu, then the other guy gets killed. Either way, I lose the game.

Destiny mode is pretty easy depending on what skills you choose. Personally, in that situation, I'd go for Basic (Mount) so you can start off the level with a horse to get from point A to point B.
Invest heavily in Ambush as well. Not only is it essential for late-game Tactical KOs (Fire and Rally the others), you can help protect your commander by setting an Ambush near him, and then going off and doing your own thing, triggering the Ambush when an enemy general gets close enough.

For the most part, though, I never play under Liu Bei. His weapon is only sub-grade. I personally prefer Ma Chao, Jiang Wei, or Yue Ying if I'm playing Shu.
