Do you have MTW/VI/Patch v2.01 installed?

If so then you will need to download the Samurai Warlord Mod from Here

It is an all-in-one install so very easy to use.

the people that make and play this mod are all great STW fans.
We don't say it's better to play this mod, per se.
There're some advantages in both games.
One main disadvantage for us is that there's no Multiplayer support for STW.
There're also some mistakes in the stats of STW which we've fixed in our mod.

The original Shogun Total War is no longer sold. When you buy Shogun now you get the version that includes Mongol Invasion which made changes to the original Shogun campaign and unit stats. I recently played a Shimazu campaign on normal difficulty using the Shogun/Mongol Invasion version, and it was trivially easy to win the campaign. I won 30 provinces in 100 turns, and all 60 provinces in 136 turns over two days of playing, and that was playing out all of the tactical battles except for 3 of them near the end of the game. None of the AI clans presented a significant threat to me during the entire campaign.

Samurai Warlords uses the MTW/VI engine, so you get the trait system for generals, the loyalty system for unit leaders, the naval system, civil wars, reemergence of clans, tighter economic system, better castle battles (next release), a stronger AI battlefield opponent due to rebalanced unit stats, and you have 24 clans from which to choose. What you give up is the weather system and seasonal turns of Shogun. A Shimazu campaign in Samurai Warlords is very challenging on normal difficulty. After 104 turns I had won 15 provinces, and after 234 turns I only have 20 provinces. I only have about 170 turns left before the end of the campaign.
