FPS lag during battles

So I stared playing MTW again, and I am getting huge FPS lag on battles,
regardless of the size or the settings I'm running it under. Its really killing my
enjoyment of the game and Ive never had this trouble before. My machine is
fine, I can run M2TW on medium settings without any problems, but not MTW?

any help would be appreciated!

Welcome, Banana Bob!

Its possible, believe it or not, that your graphics card might actually be too advanced for MTW. MTW has had some issues crop up with some of the higher end graphics cards, though you will likely have to find someone in the apothecary to help you out. They're the ones who really know what they're doing.

A lot of the more recent cards aren't really suited to MTW and STW, so I wonder what you're using? In my case I have the FX5200 (IIRC) and have to run it with rather ancient drivers to play MTW, whereas to run RTW (which I don't anymore ) it needs the latest drivers. It does seem your machine is overpowered rather than underpowered if you run M2TW okay

Hmmm well that stink!

Ill just have to deal with the lag then because downgrading for me is not an option.

I had to same problem and its the graphic card. Nothing you can do about it. Total war runs flawless on my old laptop 64mb graphic card but I get a slight lag with my new 256mb video card. Its best to play this game on a older pc.
